I have been getting urges on my own site to forgo numbered scores and go to a letter grade system. I am just wrapping my entire brain around the problem for a good solution.

This was a nice perspective on the situation. Thanks for it.

Exactly, I was talking about that to my friends, and they were all like: "No way man, numerical scoring system can't go away."

But thinking about it, there are some clear inconsistencies in this type of grading. Should we just not accept that just because we don't know what we can replace it with? As an example, some reviewers talk highly of the product they review in the written article, and when you jump at the score section, you surprisingly see a relatively "low" score, which doesn't fit with the tone of the review, or vice versa. Some reviews doesn't even look consistent at all with the score they give, which is a basic but very, very serious problem in my book. That's why I thought a simple "recommended/not recommended" type of end result would be a lot better, and the reader would infer how good the game is by reading the main article, or if it would be the type of game he/she likes, ignoring the "not recommended" score when necessary.

Most people don't even read the reviews nowadays, and simply deem a game good/bad and decide if they'll buy it just by looking at the score, which generally creates a false impression of the game in their mind. It's not how it should work, every game has its likeable sides and flaws, if you can overlook the flaws and the things that you enjoy about the game can suppress the downsides for you, you should play the game. What reviewers see as a "flaw" might not be as problematic as it's stated in the review to you, or your tastes might simply be different. Jumping to conclusions by looking at the score is just plain and simple wrong.

But I doubt anyone would throw the numerical scoring away and do this. As a result we'll continue seeing absurd review scores that doesn't even match with that's written in the article. Thanks for the good read.
