IGN-Call OF Duty Black Ops 2 Wii U Review

IGN:The team at Treyarch could have played it safe and Black Ops II would have sold well, but instead they challenged assumptions and pushed the series forward in awesome new directions. It’ll be hard to return to a campaign where I don’t have the ability to shape it, and I simply can’t imagine going back to the old loadout system now that Pick 10 exists. Combined with the host of subtle and overt improvements to the array of other systems, the additions to make it more appealing to Esports, and the more fleshed out Zombies mode, this is not just a fantastic Call of Duty game, but one of the best shooters of the last decade.

CommonSenseGamer4173d ago

No matter what people may think of the Vita version, it should have been the same game as that on its bigger sibling. Treyarch should have made the Vita version like they did the one for the Wii-U.

not bad for an "underpowered system", great news about choices and adaptable mission in campaign too bad people don't play campaign because its not "hardcore" unless you play online all the time, ill be getting this on Wii u instead of ps3 has better features and can play with my bro without split screen. where's the Wii u hate now. notice a bad Wii u game review and haters all over it but a good review one bothers to post anything.

also the vita couldn't handle the same game that's expecting too much dude it wouldnt fit on the game cartridge for a start and would probably blow up trying to run it. I know I got a vita and it is great but not a ps3 and also you can't compare a psvita to a Wii u, the Wii u version is the same as the other consoles. for a common sense gamer you sure lack commen sense.

Godchild10204173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

The hate runs deeper than low Wii U review scores. People on N4G and other sites comment more on lower than expect scores on all games and platforms. They don't just do it to the Wii U. Its been happening for years.

Also saying the Vita can't run, may or may not be true. When you look at Street Fighter, MVC3, Uncharted and Mortal Kombat. With recent releases of Need for Speed and Assassin's Creed. This also runs deeper than Treyarch, it was a decision by Activision and Sony. While it maybe not be able to run it as well as the Wii U/PS3/360, I'm sure they could have ported it over and limit some stuff like Criterion did with NFS.

millzy1024173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

actually yes I can all them games where built from ground up for psvita none of the games you mentioned where straight ports apart from maybe street fighter which the 3ds can run. I'm not denying they could of made a better game but directly porting a game from ps3 to psvita wouldn't happen because its would be reltivily cheap and easy to do so, so why isn't any dev doing it instead of making games from scratch.if it was simple they would release a ton of games on vita to get a user base up. that's all I'm saying.

metroid324173d ago

Its not under powered all these recent blurbs are fanboy devs as actual respected developers like Randy Pitchford/michel ancel ect say its very powerful as they are actually pushing the wiiu.

Jinkies4173d ago

lol most other Wii U ports get a lower score yet this manages to get the same.

Come on IGN, CODs launch has past I don't think Activision will care if you tell the truth now.

Norrison4173d ago

You're always hating on Wii U related articles, being sony's/microsoft's wife must be cool.

Jinkies4173d ago

Nope...not really

Stating how third party support will drop after the PS4/720 release and how it's not futureproof for it's launch price is "hating" it's pointing something out

Seriously there are far worse people on here, yet you point just me out....how sad.

Norrison4173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

@Jinkies
I'm always giving a counter-argument to most haters or people that have dumb arguments, either it be against the Wii U, Xbox 360, PS3 or PC.

You're one of them, tell me how 300 and 350 isn't a "future-proof" launch price? The PS3 had a 600$ price tag! You could've bought 2 Wiis/xbox 360 or a gaming PC that was better, you're biased to sony's and MS' consoles, I'm not taking you seriously; every gaming platform has it's ups and downs, Wii U just launched, give it some fucking time just like you did with the PS3.. Unless you were a ps3 hater too

jmc88884173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

Well ports that come later, generally get lower scores. It's the same game, later.

Also 3rd party support won't be pulled, because the Wii U can run the same game engines the other games will use.

If they wanted to, and they probably will, continue making 360/PS3 versions of their IP's because they can run the game engines.

People forget....Frostbite 2 is a next gen engine, and the 360/PS3 can run it....thus...so can the Wii U, and have more of the higher level stuff tailored to the Wii U's advantages over current gen stuff.

Same goes with CryEngine 3. You had Crysis 2 on 360/PS3, and so games utilizing CryEngine can be made for the Wii U as well.

Developer's will take the money where they can. They simply COULDN'T do this with the Wii because the system couldn't use the engines the 360/PS3 could. The Wii U will get a less eye candy version then the PS4/720, but it'll still run the game. Developers will tap each one of the three, so they can sell more units. By not providing coverage on three capable systems, they'll just be shooting themselves in the foot.

So you'll see Wii U utilizing CryEngine 3 games. You'll see a 720/PS4 utilizing CryEngine 3 games that are a notch above the Wii U, and then a PC version utilizing Cry Engine 3 a couple of notches above the 720/PS4. They'll all look good, just some will look better and even beyond that.

So we're talking apples and oranges here. Just because something happened with the Wii...doesn't mean it trumps reality this time around.

The past is not the future.

millzy1024173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

what you can't handle the fact that a game got about the same eview score on a Nintendo console grow up. oh ninja giaden got a much better Wii u review than ps3 Xbox assassins creed not reviewed yet but preview say is the same, Arkham city 9.5 same as Xbox 360 and ps3 mass effect guess what it scored 9.5 same as Xbox and this is ign scores aswell I can't be bothered to prove you wrong anymore so shut up and grow up. oh didnt think it would take long for an immature person to try to turn a possitive into a negitive. now go and cry to your mum and beg her to buy a ps4/xbox when they finally come out whilst I'm enjoying zombie u on Wii u and last of us on ps3

can't disagree with facts do some research.

Xbox $70 billion bet paid out

fr0sty255d ago

Guess that's what happens when there's no good new games to play...

4Sh0w255d ago (Edited 255d ago )

Well regardless of exclusives, or whatever else there is to play on Xbox or ps, CoD has has still been the top selling game on ps platform since forever also.....so no surprise that the most popular game franchise on any console could easily have a revival due to servers coming back online...this is just credit to xbox backwards compatibility & thats good thing for Xbox gamers.

wiz7191255d ago

@Frosty orrrr maybe it’s a breath of fresh air to be able to go back to the peak of the series .. and it’s beem great lol

mkis007255d ago

It's going to take 10 years for xbox to generate that much profit...

Rhythmattic255d ago

Why worry when they have OS, Server and Background Data in their hands...
Gaming is just the small piece, at the top left in a few K piece jigsaw.

EasilyTheBest254d ago

If you buy a house with cash for 1 million dollars you still own the house. Microsoft don't need to make the money back.

Rhythmattic253d ago

But its not money back, its about how it goes missing.

jznrpg255d ago

Shooters is what Xbox people play most of the time and that’s about it by the numbers and sales of games.

shinoff2183256d ago

Atkeast older gamers nostalgia is good. Jeez.

Jin_Sakai255d ago

Mostly because the new CoD games are garbage. The old games were much better.

Rutaprkl255d ago

Agree 100%. Cod 4, WaW, Black ops 1 & 2, those were the days.

Rhythmattic255d ago

For MP, Unreal tournament , QIII Arena (loved the UT mod) FTW!

RaidenBlack254d ago

Unreal Tournament and Quake III were simply amazing ... CoD's and CoD-likes' rise killed the arena shooter popularity ...
Unreal Tournament 2004 is my favorite in the series.
Didn't enjoy Unreal Tournament III, Quake Champions that much.
Too bad Epic cancelled Unreal Tournament 2014 becoz of Fortnite

Rhythmattic254d ago (Edited 254d ago )

I got hooked on the QIII Urban Terror mod (and my work colleagues I introduced them to)... LAN Sessions at the closing of the doors at work, into the night , sinking beers and eating pizza..... Good times.

thesoftware730255d ago

Wow, good games never get old I guess.

CoD will always be a beast of a franchise, and how awesome is it that you can just boot it up or pop it into your Xbox and play, MS BC is really a neat feature.

CrimsonWing69255d ago

Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.

1Victor255d ago

@crimson:” Shows you that backwards compatibility is a worthwhile feature.”
I agree it’s worthy at the start of the generation when there’s few new generation games but halfway through the generation it’s not a feature.
Now it’s good that this game is finding a renewed life for its fan but it shows a mayor flaw in new games release when a close decade old game is toppling the charts

CrimsonWing69254d ago

I don't know if I understand what you mean. It's a feature regardless of the time into the generation.

Let's take Armored Core 6 for example. Let's say I'm interested in checking out the previous Armored Core games, sure would be nice if I could play them on my current-gen console.

We're about 3 years into current-gen and old games are hitting in the top 5 for sales charts in the month.

I do get where you're coming from with older games possibly being better than the newer games, but the feature stays the feature. I can only speak for myself, but when there's a lull in game releases or nothing great is out, I like to go back to old titles. It's just nice to not have to have a bunch of consoles out to do so.

I think moving forward it'll be less and less of an issue as like with the PS5 you can access most all of the PS4 games, but I like going back to PS1 and PS2. Would be awesome to kind of make backwards compatibility a prioritized feature moving forward. Hell, Sony was the first to implement it.
