Wow! The Wii has suffered.

TheBrownBandito4204d ago

How did the PS3 beat the Xbox 360 every year on market share and end up with a lower lifetime market share?

The charts aren't worth a [censored] if the total doesn't reflect the numbers shown.

TheBrownBandito4204d ago

How can you possibly disagree? Unless of course you can't add up!

jaosobno4204d ago (Edited 4204d ago )

Because Xbox360 had 1 year head start? Let's not forget "boost" in sales due to RROD (initial 54% failure rate).

Also if you failed to notice, these are sales from 2009. and X360 is here since 2005 (and PS3 from 2006.).

TheBrownBandito4203d ago

@jaosobno

Yes I realise that. My point was, it is misleading to present a totals column that isn't relative to the columns preceding it.

Well that is because everybody who was going to buy one...already bought one...And anybody who is thinking about it, will just get the Wii U.

* Xbox360 has dropped of because once again, most people who wanted one, have had one for 3-5+ years.

* PS3 didn't have as great of sales at first and they sell a bit still because the price as dropped.

Sony needs to focus on Vita until PS4 releases

i dont think wii can catch up to ps2 in lifetime sales..

TheLyonKing4204d ago

This makes me happy if it comes true.

Ah VGChartz. It's fun to have a look at them every now and then, just purely for entertainment, to see how far their numbers are off from official data. Take the 360 for example. Last year they aren't too far off. They've got the 360 at 6.6 million to Oct 13th 2011, when Microsoft said 6.7 million as of the end of Sept 2011. This year, MS says 4.4 million up until the end of Sept, VGChartz's guesstimate has them at 5.1 million. So, according to Microsoft, 360 sales are down roughly 40% for 2012 when VGChartz only has them down a little over 20%.

Quite a dramatic drop when you consider the 360 had it's best calendar year ever last year. Even though it's no secret it's been on the market awhile, what console has ever in it's history seen it's best year followed immediately by a sales crash of 40%?

I don't know that it's ever happened before. The PS2 hit it's best year and the year after was down about 10%, down 3% the year after that and didn't really start dropping until well after the PS3 was released. The Wii peaked in 2009 and sales started to drop but it still wasn't the overnight plunge we've seen from the 360.

Anyway. Blah blah blah..vgchartz is a fan run site, they're in the ballpark sometimes, other times they aren't. Everyone knows what the score is, but VGChartz puts it best themselves in the terms of use.

LOL! You can't do it?

It doesn't matter what kind of article it is, you always turn it into a negative. The Xbox 360 had the best calendar year ever BUT...blah blah blah!

I said this before and I'll say it again, But you must really suck at the parties, huh? ;)

The infamous darkfail 666 spin at work

andibandit4204d ago (Edited 4204d ago )

@darkride66

"Quite a dramatic drop when you consider the 360 had it's best calendar year ever last year."

I dont get your logic....2011 was an amazing year for gamers and most of the console manufacturers had great sales. Now it's 2012 and games have been lackluster, but youre totally surprised by the dip in sales??????.

By the way, this dip in sales is problably hitting all manufacturers, but ...geez in not even gonna bother to explain.

givemeshelter4204d ago

darkride we know you HATE the Xbox360, but dude...stop with the spin articles man. You don't work for Sony so relax...

Picture_Dancer4204d ago

So it is obvious that there are much more PS3 users than X360 (we have to remember failure rate of X360).

Probably by the end of this year there should be more PS3 sold than X360 and with that Sony for the third time in a row will have best selling console within the generation (offcourse Wii doesn't count as console this generation, it's different market just like tablets, PC or handhelds).

givemeshelter4204d ago

And how again is it in a different category than the other two systems? It's a console right? Plays games right? So they are the same category and hate the Wii all you want, it took massive amounts of market share from Sony...If it were NOT in the same category or count as a console as you say...then the market-share for the Wii would be LESS.
Spin it all you want. The Wii outsold the other two systems this generation.

How is it that Microsoft can claim being "The best selling console" in a given year but the numbers don't support that claim? Its obvious that they haven't been the best selling console considering the Wii obliterated both and the ps3 has closed the gap.. Typical Microsoft PR I guess..

Lvl_up_gamer4204d ago

MS only say that about NPD numbers.

Funny to me how I have disagrees, 1 response and I have said nothing that isn't true.. I love this site..

Mugen Souls Retro Review – Sexy Demon Space Adventure

Gary Green said: We have a juxtaposition of 2D and 3D visuals, flashy turn-based combat, quirky anime characters with cheeky dialogue with plenty of partial nudity; Yes, this is a Compile Heart JRPG. Whilst the engine is borrowed from Hyperdimension Neptunia mk2, Mugen Souls is more of a Disgaea spin-off. It’s not a strategy RPG as such, it merely sits within Disgaea’s ever-expanding universe (Multiverse? Netherverse? Your guess is as good as mine). You won’t find cameos though, since Mugen Souls is a franchise which aims to stand on its own two feet.
