American Chart for Week Ending 15th December 2007 (360 and PS3 outsell Wii?)

VGChartz Reports for the Week ending Dec 15, 2007, American Sales were as follows:

DS: 704,805
360: 330,501
PS2: 253,824
PSP: 251,689
PS3: 192,730
Wii: 173,798

Is that all Wii were available or is VGChartz undertracking Wii's on the market? 170K (30% decline) seems strange....

Unreal Tournament III openned up PS3 with 69,768, which basically has outsold PC counter-part.

Half-Life 2: The Orange Box sold 36,490

Where all these gay VG charts get released and everyone goes
B-A-N-A-N-A-S.

I know people wanna say yeah the Wii fad is passing (me included) but its simply a supply issue. Because the demand is sure there.

unlimited5989d ago

Wii is selling less due to shortages. The 360 isnt really blowing out the PS3 in sales..If you look at world wide sales the PS3 is actually selling a little better then their enemy(360). I expect this Christmas to be a battle..I think Sony have to do really good through out 0'8 they have to out sell the 360 every month. I am certain with all the heavy hitter games coming out it will happen.

Gondee5989d ago

Is i just me or was UT3 a AAA title? isnt it suposed to sell millions?

Just a side note. But with the looks of 360 gamers i think UT3 would have sold a million copies first day on 360. Who else thinks that to?

Kr1555989d ago

The Ps3 version was a limited release. They rushed it out for Christmas cool thing is even with the limited release it outsold it's pc counterpart. To be honest though I don't care if it sells millions (of course Sony might) The game is funner than Halo.

The US market is still huge - at least for 360 sales. 2M 360 software titles a week is immense, vs. 664 in the EU (and somebody above mentioned that. The PS3 sold 711k SW titles last week, that is, more PS3 SW then 360 in EU).

Also, 330k units sold. But, actually I am impressed, that the European market either seems to catch up or is bigger then expected. The PS3 sold more units (192k) in the US then 360 in Europe (172k). OTHO, the PS3 did not sell more units (255k) in Europe then 360 in the US (330k). But 255k units a week is a pretty respectable number - and the PS3 sold more in EU then in US (total numbers), also, the installbase is growing faster in EU then in the US, and is about on par already (with about ~5 month lesser sales).

US is 360 land. No doubt about it. Might also be some form of patriotism. Probably. Or the market is simply more price driven then elsewhere.

i went to best buy yesterday to buy allpro football for the 360 because it was on sell for $10 and while i was there i seen 4 people buying 360s and not 1 buying a ps3,now i was only there for about 20 to 30 minutes so they might have sold a lot of ps3 later on.while i was there they had $500 br players on sell for $145 and if i would've had the money i would've bought it but christmas broke me.
the only reason that i could think they was on sell was maybe they was the older models and the new br disc that's coming out want play in them so they are trying to sell them befor the new br disc comes out and they will be obsolete but it was still worth the money just because for regular dvds because it was the one that the front comes down when you press a button and it had a blue glow to it ,so it would've made my home intertainment system look better.

Snukadaman5988d ago

selling 69k...im sure most of you thought it would be in the 100ks at least....again ps3 owners show why its just not worth it to have exclusives....america is smart...people aint falling for hyperbole and waiting. and like every week..another excuse..some people cant admit to games being on their system being a flop....every week the excuse changes...first it was ratchet and clank and uncharted selling just 2 days...but next week we will see the same numbers or lower.

Hopefully I don't get slack for this news story as for the worldwide number, honest mistake, I didn't know it didn't include the japanese numbers.

Strange about the Wii numbers though, is that all they had supply for this week?

Genuine5989d ago

Don't sweat it, we all make mistakes sometimes. Don't pay any attention to TANOD, he seriously seems to have issues.

iceice1235989d ago

Playstation 3. We hardly knew you. :'(
360: 330,501

PS3: 192,730

Cyrus3655989d ago

Not really considering Ps3 outsells 360 in europe and Japan, my other new report (Not including Japan) shows 360 has about 50K lead over Ps3, and then if you include the Japan numbers, that obviously skrinks significantly, to almost selling on par to one another.

xsteinbachx5989d ago

why do people always disagree especially when they don't understand?

chrno65989d ago

Another delusional 360 fanoby thinking that America represents the whole world.

lonestarmt5989d ago

your brain. We hardly knew you :(

look at the world wide sales lol

iceice1235989d ago

Another blind lemming who thinks Japan represents the world.

crazypuppet5989d ago

so even though the ps3 outsold the xbox 360 in europe by 80k the 360 outsold the ps3 is america by 140k which means the xbox 360 sold 60k more then teh ps3 this month(i swear to god if anyone calls me a xboxbot because i dont even have a ps3 and a 360)

TANOD5989d ago

we hardly knew you

PS3 has surpassed x360 in EU and JAPAN (even in terms of total sales in just 6 months)

192k is a very good number

VGCHARTS numbers also understimate ps3 sales....so wait for NPD before bullcrapping

TheXgamerLive5989d ago

But yes the ps3 is the better seller only in hardware only in Japan, in Japan the Xbox 360 still outsells the ps3 in games and this includes Europe too.

So he's basically right, bye bye ps3, ..........................naaa , the ps3 will continue to hang in there.

Lucreto5989d ago

RIP 360/Wii/PS3 actually none at all.

360 has the US market but Ps3 has the Japanese Market and it will gain control of the European market before the summer.

I leave out the Wii as I don't think a 89 year old women count as gamers.

How exactly is the US market bigger?

WilliamRLBaker5989d ago

except cyrus the ps3 doesn't outsell the 360, all those other countries mean nothing, the UK is a bunch of different countries, its sales alone outpace all other countries combined over there.

learn your figures.

Former Dragon Age lead writer David Gaider pours scorn on EA's AI dreams.

"They want you to believe the devs under them are super stoked to work generative AI into their processes," continued Gaider, "but I assure you what they took as excitement was really a veiled wail of despair not unlike the time that team was informed of their new 'really cool' live service mandate.".

Publishers see gaming as another stock market.

I think anyone with some common sense knew this, im glad i don't support their games anymore, what a sh!t company.

I said this yesterday. AI isn't what we want when it comes to crafting artistry. Alas, these soulless corporate morons don't care about their work, only about cutting corners as much as possible.

Phil Spencer and the Battle for Xbox’s Soul

Has the rapid growth of Xbox made the ship too heavy? Following the closures of Tango Gameworks, Arkane Austin, and Roundhouse, we explore what the future of Xbox could look like.

LG_Fox_Brazil1d 10h ago

This ship was never meant to sail, this ship was made from the get go to sink as fast as possible. It almost feels that they want to lower the standards of quality in the industry so that they can fit in

rlow116h ago

I disagree, Xbox from the get go innovated and changed the industry. They did a lot of firsts and standardized a lot of others. It wasn’t till the beginning of the Xbox1 era that things started to go south.

Stevonidas12h ago

Yep, although I’d argue it started going to shit when they tried to hock Kinect on their audience instead of continuing to invest in their studios and IPs. 2001-2010 Xbox was peak gaming, though.

rlow110h ago

@Stevonidas
I agree they never should have focused on it after the 360 era. But you do have to remember they were faked out by the huge volumes of Kinects sold. To quote info on Wikipedia, “Project Natal, It was first released on November 4, 2010, and would go on to sell eight million units in its first 60 days of availability.” So if your Xbox and see these huge sales on a peripheral where are you going to put some money? Criticism in hindsight is worthless…..if only we could all see our future. In other wards they had no way of knowing. Plus they had engagement numbers and a lot of signs pointed to people wanting it.

Their biggest mistake wasn’t the Kinect, but unlike Sony after the PS3 debacle. They didn’t double on down on exclusive good games. The other huge mistake was letting Call of Duty go to Sony.

Hedstrom19h ago

Phil wants Xbox to be as soulless as him!

Tacoboto18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Xbox has no soul and Phil has no confidence, and it's impossible to say either do when they killed Tango and Arkane Austin.

Everything they've said since has only made them look worse to a point that they're actually less competent than Embracer.

Markdn18h ago(Edited 18h ago)

Whe you release something like the series S and expect it not to hurt your business model, and developers have to have parity with games. Then you know Microsoft don't care. Series s is the final nail that broke developers,

Sarah Bond dodges questions on Xbox studio closures

While on stage with Dina Bass at The Bloomberg Technology Summit the President of Xbox, Sarah Bond, was asked about the Xbox studio closures of Arkane Austin, Tango Gameworks, Alpha Dog, and Roundhouse Studios

2d ago
ApocalypseShadow2d ago

Of course she did. She's part of the problem and will just tow the company line.

VenomUK1d 22h ago (Edited 1d 22h ago )

Bloomberg’s Dina Bass could barely read her scripted question without looking at her notes, whilst Sarah Bond who WAS expecting the question spoke without saying anything of substance or answering the question in any meaningful way. Clearly she’s had the same expert PR training as Phil, but this avoidance was disrespectful. In time the short-sighted decision to shut down Tango Gameworks will be seen as of the most notorious examples why Phil Spencer messed up his tenure in charge of Xbox. That’s a fully built out talented team that could’ve been put to work on any project.

Additionally, Phil Spencer should not be using Sarah Bond as a patsy for his mistakes- he should be answering that question.

gleepot1d 20h ago

I think you are all really overselling Tangos value. Hi-Fi rush was a lot of fun. Ghostwire was incredibly dull. Evil within 1 and 2 were just okay.

lucasnooker1d 19h ago

Evil within 2 was incredibly under rated. I thought that game was surprisingly good

NotoriousWhiz1d 16h ago

Someone else said it best. I don't think it was a Phil decision. It was most likely a Satya decision. I think Microsoft is done giving out free money to Xbox.

Christopher1d 22h ago

She's playing her role. There's absolutely nothing any of them can say other than the truth, this is about profit margins and not quality, so they just don't answer anything and wait for gamers to forget.

shinoff21831d 11h ago

I think news is coming of more ps5 release but they gotta be careful cause Xbox is still sitting on store shelves. They can't get left holding all that stock

Lightning771d 10h ago

Come next month they'll flash nice looking games in our faces and expecting us to forget.

The only thing that'll be going through my mind at their showcase is how many of those studios will get shut down after release.

I'm not joking around either. MS probably expects every game to be like COD and do COD numbers. What a way to destroy gaming for the entire industry because they're dumb af at being realistic in what success means for each game.

-Foxtrot1d 9h ago

notachance1d 22h ago

I always wondered why xbox had multiple leaders with similar titles like Phil Spencer, Matt Booty, and Sarah Bond, like, how many heads do you actually need?

Seems to me it would be more cost efficient to cut 2 of them instead of all those studios.

DarXyde1d 21h ago

Frankly, I suspect she is the most competent of them. I don't mean that I like her more, I mean that she's the best at articulating herself and giving the talking points MS wants to give. The others are starting to sound more like her than her sounding like any of them.

Are any of these people "responsible" for what's happening? No. This reeks of Nadella. But that being said, I don't see any of the Xbox heads stepping down in protest.

"Don't shoot the messenger", sure, but at the same time, the messengers don't seem to take umbrage with the message. Not enough to remove themselves from it, anyway.

CS71d 9h ago

I disagree. Nadella is looking for profit as a CEO should in my opinion.

The problem is Dr. Phil & Co. had 10 years to bring Xbox back on track and have been failing woefully.

Phil needs to sell to Nadella that if we are to make a profit, we need to make great games. And to do that we need employees here for the long haul and the freedom to work on creative projects.

But as Phil said himself he doesn’t believe great games sell consoles.

RpgSama1d 14h ago

Dude, 100%, forgot Major Nelson and Aaron Greenberg, like what is the point for all these suits? They have more C-level executives than games released in a generation.

This is just so they can all pass along the hot potato one at a time and in between all of them can say a lot without actually saying anything, misinformation at its finest.
