The Symmetry of New Super Mario Bros. Wii

IGN:

You'd think there'd be a difference. Mario's been doing this kind of thing for decades – running, jumping, saving the princess. You'd think he'd have some advantage, some noticeably better skillset than a pair of simple upstarts setting out on their first-ever adventure. But, no. Nintendo decided against that. Nintendo decided that, in 2009's New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the world's most famous platforming hero would be able to be matched step for step, jump for jump by a couple of nameless, personality-less Toads.

To hell with asymmetric gaming.. I mean its a plus for casuals & party games but should NOT their main focus for core titles.. I swear if Nintendo is doing this to gain back casual crowds & not focus on the core audience, i will never buy another product from them again.. This is exactly why im not buying wii u & will patiently wait until i see an appealing Zelda, Metroid, & mario galaxy successor..

Ur obviously a fool if u believe your own BS.. Thats why gamecube was so damn popular right? Wiis success was because of casuals & became an instant fad, nothing more.. I give them credit for the handheld domination but its mostly because of the eastern regions.. In the west, ONLY 1st party games sell well & few 3rd party games above a E rating are considered successful.. Cry to someone else about how great mario & rainbow roads are.. U think because of Kid Icarus & Zelda controls on the 2nd screen that ppl will flock to wii u? U best think again.. If your beloved Nintendo doesnt convince the ppl who are on the fence & the other side to jump, Mijo your wii u will share the same fate as GC.. Most ppl dont even know its a new system lol.. Just some tab control add on

Bring back the cape and the damn frog suit PLEASE!!! Make more vertical levels with spring boards (red diving boards?), hidden worlds, hidden paths, and everything super mario world had. Id also like to see something innovative like some puzzles from pushmo thrown in (where you can pull blocks) or maybe a change in direction (perspective?) like fez. Keep the clssic feel and platforming but add some new stuff here and there. Also get rid of the generic new smb graphics. Make something cartoony like super mario world or mario 3. It worked well on the ds as mario 64 was a big hit and it felt amazing on the ds but on consoles it doesnt fit imo. Even if it did you should change it every main game so it doesnt stagnate.

That said i cant wait for new super mario bros 2 on 3ds in 2 weeks. I watched a video review and damn if it doesnt still have that charm. It instantly took me back to the fun i had on the ds with the first and i saw some remnants of past older games like the raccoon tail.

Will There Ever Be A New Rayman Game?

Ubisoft barely have a leg to stand on lately, so do they need to crack open the vaults and return platforming royalty to glory for some goodwill?

We need Rayman 4, they could make a great platformer game if they wanted. With the open hub levels and the like.

Better than relying on Rabbids and Assassins Creed all the time

Yeah agree id love a Rayman 2 style 3d platform game over another 2d platformer I know people loved legends but it never gelled with me same as Rayman 1 back in the day on PS it just felt like a average platformer with sonic and Mario offering something better on what was then last gen hardware

Terry_B58d ago

Yes..but I am sure it won't be the Rayman game fans want. Not from the company that is Ubisoft today.

Ancel is retired from games. His hoodlum/rabbid team are doing their own thing. It would not be the same if Ubisoft did.

Profchaos57d ago

Probably far more profitable to make low effort Rabbids games aimed at kids over a next Rayman

Chocoburger57d ago

Experience points, skill trees to fill up, level gating, endless menial tasks and side quests, constantly scrounging for resources. Always having to upgrade your gear. A.KA. "The Ubisoft effect".

No thanks, don't ruin Rayman's legacy.

Profchaos57d ago

Sure there will be it'll launch right alongside the next splinter cell
