Five Reasons Why New PS4 "Leak" Is Likely Fake

According to Generation Eight.com:

A new rumor started based on a supposedly leaked internal Sony document detailing the specifications of the PS4. First off, I would be willing to bet my bottom-dollar that IF such a document really is detailed out somewhere at Sony's HQ, it is guarded very heavily, maybe even under penalty of death for looking at it without authorization? Okay, jokes aside, the point is, sheets like this very rarely prove real, but it DOES occasionally happen.

So why call this one out as fake? There are a few big reasons why, five in total.

The 20GB should have been enough to anyone to know it's a fake.

Walker4369d ago (Edited 4369d ago )

With 20gig ram i alone can render avatar in realtime !

Edit: @ limewax
With specifications of the PS4 on that pic, render avatar in real-time is so easy . I am a programmer and speak with the documents !

limewax4369d ago (Edited 4369d ago )

I detect the sarcasm, but fuuny thing is, even with all that we would still be miles from rendering something like that.

And people ask how much further games can go graphically

OccludedGamer4369d ago (Edited 4369d ago )

I don't dispute your field of expertise. But as a serious question, and out of curiosity why is it that Cameron required such a large render-farm (WETA) to produce the movie?

Doesn't WETA churn out 32x104 terabytes of memory?

Hisiru4369d ago

10 gig of ram is very cheap now but a GPU including 10gig of ram? Lol... No way.

FACTUAL evidence4369d ago

20 GB or RAM was defo the giveaway. Also, I don't find anything credible about sony hardware until sony says it themselves. I highly doubt the ps4 would even have over 2gbs of RAM if even 2!

xAlmostPro4369d ago

Number 1, because it was a joke post from 4chan /v/ yesterday.

Articles aren't even needed

sourav934369d ago (Edited 4369d ago )

Can't you get Alienware machines with 24 GB system RAM?

P.S. I know the specs sheet is fake/a joke, but just speculating...

hay4369d ago (Edited 4369d ago )

Or devkit specs.

Be aware of the fact that PS2 had 32megs of ram, while it's devkit got 128. PS3 had 512, devkit 1GB. It would be only sensible to give PS4's devkit additional, slower GDR memory for development and give a punch with around 8GB of XDR in retail machines, which sounds reasonable.
However with past and recent complaints about PS3's memory and Sony's plans to introduce MMO gaming to consoles, extra 2gigs make sense.

Cell sounds also probable, or at least I hope it to be true.
Playstation CPU progressed so far in 16x increments. 16PPE and around 100 SPEs fits like a glove.

With Sony's plans to push QuadHD in upcoming years and their 10 year console life cycle plan, 2160p also sounds reasonable.

NVIDIA also used "Quantum leap" term with their Quadro Plex and 22nm modified GPU would have reduced amount of memory compared to the original down from 4 or 8GB.

If this chart is fake, it's pretty good. Better than most fakes.

Shikoro4369d ago

Dude, technology doesn't work that way. You can't just add execution units to a CPU as much as you like. The first consideration is the die size, the second one is the TDP, the third one is making sure that all cores are properly connected with a wide enough bus which wouldn't clog the data flow, and many more.

You probably don't understand half of this so why bother speculating about something you don't know.

Don't mean to be offensive, just saying what it is... Sorry.

hay4369d ago (Edited 4369d ago )

Yet ironically, you didn't understood the other half of what I wrote.

I do not think the first point is really proof it is fake. Yes developers had a hard time to develop for it but it has turned out pretty well for everyone. I think the main reasons this is fake is the ram (point 2), the 2160p (point 3: seriously that doesn't make sense considering those tvs that are capable for this output and are affordable are unlikely to hit the market for the next 10 years) and the backward comparability (point 5: the number one reason why for me this is fake because it goes against business practises that Sony has adopted which are becoming very profitable)

kneon4369d ago

2160p TVs, often referred to as 4K, have been on the market for a couple of years. This year they finally went from insanely expensive to just really expensive. But within a couple years they will likely have dropped down into the range of current high end 1080p TVs.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them hit mainstream prices within 3-4 years.

Tony-A4369d ago

I'm not tech expert, but the "2160p" part of the specs don't even sound close to legitimate. It looks to me like whoever wrote that sheet just added 1080p + 1080p to get the number. Again, I'm no tech expert, but past resolutions don't just multiply to get the next thing:

480 + 480 is NOT 720
720 + 720 is NOT 1080

And plus, isn't the next big resolution 8K?

As excited as I would be to hear some of the things on the sheet to come true, there are way too many things that scream fake...

haha.... 20GB of total RAM.... pssh

iamnsuperman4369d ago

I think the person who created this saw this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

"Phillips has made a 3D Quad HDTV with a native resolution of 2160p.[5]
Sony plans Quad HD TV to launch between 2010 and 2020. Holographic Versatile Discs and Blu-ray Disc may be used for 2160p video, since it theoretically has a storage capacity of up to 10 Terabytes"

kneon4369d ago

2160p is a legit resolution. You will usually see it refered to as 4K or Quad HD, or Quad Full HD.

NYC_Gamer4369d ago

Who really thought those specs were legit?

Nintendo says Switch 2 will be officially announced before the end of March 2025

This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.

Profchaos4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I'm excited for a switch 2 however I don't feel it will be coming this year as per the tweet in they are commuting to a reveal in this Japanese financial year in 2025.

Realistically we will get one last holiday season to focus on the switch because it would be madness for Nintendo to go into the holidays where the switch always performs well when they have announced a switch 2.

I'm thinking we see a announcement late Jan 25 personally with a release between March and June depending on when the software is ready and how strong the holday sales were if they need to boost those figures for the next earnings call or not

gold_drake4d ago

yea agreed. they'll probably match it with the new pkmn game they announced

VenomUK4d ago

So it begins!

Where one contender pulls out of the game, another comes back bigger and stronger.

Nintendo Switch 2 - let the games begin.

Cacabunga4d ago

A new Splatoon launch title for sure.. hoping they change the recipe and make it open world.

I think it’ll come out Q1 25. Let’s wait and see

H94d ago

There's a event in June for games on the switch and they said there won't be a switch 2 announcement so no way they will announce the console after june and still release it in the same year

Eonjay4d ago

So, I think they will shoot for another FYQ4 release (like with the first Switch) but I am confused by the headline:

'[...] Switch 2 will be officially ANNOUNCED before the end of March 2025' This implies that the Switch 2 isn't coming out till maybe holiday 2025 or maybe even 2026. I think they will be better served by NOT releasing when GTA 6 launches (unless there is some shocking reveal that it will run on Switch 2). Release early 2025.

Neonridr4d ago

I'd say it'll be released before March 2025 tbh.

notachance4d ago

Holiday announcement with summer launch

thesoftware7304d ago

It should be an interesting year; Sony, Nintendo, and MS all have new Hardware to show.

PS5 Pro specs leak video taken down by Sony

Sony is taking actions as video by Moore’s Law is Dead, has been issued with a copyright claim.

videogameschronicle.com
andy8525d ago

And people say it's all fake because Sony haven't said anything 😂 conveniently forget the PS4 Pro was only announced 2 months before release.

BeHunted24d ago

It's fake. There's no factual evidence other than his own made up specs.

Hereandthere24d ago

What were the specks Sony was afraid of showing?

Shikoku24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Digital foundry put a video out saying what he leaked was exactly what they also knew about the PS5 PRO. So no it's not just stuff he made up

Babadook724d ago (Edited 24d ago )

If it’s fake what copyright does MLID infringe upon?

😂

andy8524d ago

Aye because they'd go to the effort of copyright claiming it if it didn't exist 🙃😂 you'd have to be a special kind to be thinking its not a thing by now

Cacabunga24d ago

They need to reveal it with uncharted killzone or a heavy hitter like this

Ironmike24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

U mean the specs that we'll established digital foundry which said these are the actual specs published a video on 2 weeks ago I mean they are only one of most trusted sites for tech information but they just made up a video for the sake of it

Christopher24d ago

I would love for it all to be fake, but lots of people are saying they've seen/heard the same thing. But, man, we 100% don't need mid-gen upgrades when we're failing hard to optimize current hardware.

Seraphim24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

if I recall Sony lowered sales expectations for PS5 earlier this year. if that is the case we won't hear anything about a Pro until next year or shortly before/when it's dropping. After all, if the Pro was dropping this year/fiscal year they wouldn't have lowered expectations.

As for squashing rumors. Yeah, shit like this prevents potential buyers from adopting now, just like slim rumors in the past. It only makes sense to keep things under wraps from a business perspective. Despite living in a technological age of unfettered access to information we don't need to know whats going on behind closed doors be that at Sony, Nintendo, MS, or amongst any development studios. When the steak is done we shall feast.

JackBNimble23d ago

By the time games are actually made to take advantage of the pro spec's the ps6 will be released or close to it.

jznrpg24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Just announce it already! I want to preorder one asap. But in reality they don’t want to lessen PS5 sales until Pro is ready to launch so I understand the business part of it. September is probably when they announce it with an early November launch like the PS4 Pro

Ironmike24d ago

Pro won't lessen sales sames ps4 pro never and the ps4 pro was more relevant at the time cos move to 4k this not needed

RaidenBlack24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

Yea, my brother got his PS4 (coz of a good deal) after the PS4 Pro's release.

darthv7224d ago

^^same here. I got a base 4 for only $100 off a guy who bought the Pro. then a few months later I found a guy on craigslist selling a pro for $100 because it was left behind by his former roommate who moved out. That was the beginning of my obsession to buy up the different variants of the PS4 that were released.

As of now I am really only missing the 500m one and the gold slim but otherwise I have pretty much all the other retail ones. https://consolevariations.c...

crazyCoconuts24d ago

Anyone with 4K that appreciates 60fps is gonna disagree about it not being needed.
DLSS is a god send for Nvidia, and there's been nothing like it for AMD...yet ...

DeadlyFire24d ago

They will announce it around E3 timeframe about May-June whenever they do a showcase for the year.

neutralgamer199224d ago

Just announce it this thing will sell well

Ironmike24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

I don't think it will pll still haven't seen the potential of ps5 yet

Cacabunga24d ago

agreed, but it might sell if they announce some 1st party games to lead the way. if people see the difference with the base version they can move on. for my sake I am still gaming mainly on PS4 (still not finished with RDR2 due to lack of gaming time). I have a huge backlog on PS5 I am hoping to get into.

mark3214uk24d ago

why? game makers havnt even come close to maxing out current spec yet, were getting al lthese new TFlops and game maker are making crappy remakes not worthy of the ps3

Minute Man 72124d ago

The guts of the 5 and X are 5 years old

fr0sty24d ago

People keep saying that, yet we still have games running at near HD resolutions, 30fps, and ray tracing features turned off.

PRIMORDUS24d ago (Edited 24d ago )

I would take that video and upload a torrent of it, fuck that copyright bullshit. If your going to do something that has a chance of being taken down, make a torrent first share it. Then Sony or any other company is helpless and you can laugh in their faces, taunting them to try to take it down 🤣

LoveSpuds24d ago

With kind of analysis and advice, you could be a lawyer for Trump!🤣

tronyx1224d ago

As much as the PS4 Pro didn't represent a major % in the playerbase, announcing a 'better' model will hinder sales from the 'base' model. They are right, business-wise.

XDefiant misses launch window, Ubi says a new release date will be announced after stress test

XDefiant was originally supposed to be out in summer 2023, but following a seemingly-successful beta test in April of that year, it was bumped to October 2023, and then delayed again to an unspecified future date. In its February 2024 financial report, Ubisoft slated XDefiant for launch in the fourth quarter of its 2023-24 fiscal year, which ended March 31.

A week before that date arrived, rumors surfaced that the game would be delayed yet again, and a few days later Ubisoft made it official.

"The game has always been community-first, with player feedback as a top priority," the development team said in the update. "While we hoped to go live by the end of March, there are still some improvements that we need to test before that."

Ubisoft said it's "finishing preparations" for a server stress test that will run for 12 hours on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. "After this short test, we expected to be able to lock a launch date and start sharing more about exciting content XDefiant has to offer in the future!"

just_looken39d ago (Edited 39d ago )

The previous news was from the team/rumors this is ubisoft themselves now saying the game is delayed again no new date set but they will have a stress test on a date that has not been set.

So the game is delayed to _____ TBD
Network stress test at ____ TBD

Ubisoft we make games whenever for whoever we just do not care

https://cdn.mos.cms.futurec...

X-2339d ago

I'm just going to be honest here and say what people seem to not want to, XDefiant success is going to be short-lived and it's because it's a game that's going to be under Ubisoft's umbrella. The development team can be absolute rockstars, but with Ubisoft steering the ship it's not going to go anywhere.

Profchaos39d ago

It could be a truely amazing game (it won't be) but with Ubisoft it will be monitized within a inch of its life.

smolinsk38d ago

The game is dead move on. It's the same with the Finals. These short period hype games doesn't last.
