Skyrim: Dawnguard also coming to both PS3 and PC at a later date

Timed Exclusive DLC only screws over gamers! Pubs/Devs need to just stop with that CRAP and Sony/MS need to just stop wasting money on it!

That money could be used to make quality AAA Exclusives for your system that would make way more cash in the long run and entice gamers to buy your console unlike timed DLC which only hurts gamers.

Plus it makes your Pub/Dev team look greedy and petty then the game gets released for the other platforms and gets low sales cause the gamers feel jaded and now have moved on to something else.

I will buy Skyrim way later on down the road when i can get a PC Special Edition with all the DLC included......if i buy it at all cause by then Planeside 2 and Arma III will be out. Exclusives always take priority which is why wasting money on timed DLC is stupid!

Sony rarely does this. It is MS who pays for timed DLC and some timed "exclusive" downloadable games most of the time.

Exactly. As I stated above, Sony doesn't spend a lot of money for timed stuff and focus on delivering exclusive games. MS and Sony are almost opposite when it comes to this.

You do realise this contract for timed exclusive DLC was made 3-4 years ago and included fallout 3, new Vegas and now skyrim?

Lets say for example 30,000 people decided they would buy an Xbox for this. Those people go on to buy XBL membership and they then buy all the DLC packs for at least 1 of those games. Here's my math based on uk prices:

30k xbox's retail value: £6mil (varies on SKU)
All buy 12 months XBL membership: £1.2mil
All dlc packs for fallout 3: £900k
30k fallout 3 sales at full retail value: £1.2mil

I dunno how much ms paid for such a deal but that is for one game and only involves people who bought the Xbox for the game and doesn't include total sales. I am aware all of the money doesnt go to ms but I would hope that it shows how that deal can bring in money for ms.

and many people are having problems with mods not working,, modders link back to the nexus and a lot still prefer it...

Skyrim worked well enough on PS3. Much better than Fallout anyways. And the framerate thing has been patched.

But that's pretty much Bethesda's thing at this point. Never buy from them and expect a completely finished project.

Timed DLC is a stupid practice, however it does have it's bonuses for PC and PS3. Lets face it, Bethesda games and DLC always have bugs, this basically means the Xbox players are beta testing the DLC, and everything (hopefully) will be fixed when it releases on PS3 and PC. Its not exactly a massive wait, just sort of minor inconvenience.

I am rarely affected by timed DLC but this is just a bugger, I have nothing left to do in my Skyrim except piss around with mods which is loosing it's novelty very quickly..

By the time it comes out I'm not sure if I will even bother,, too many other games coming out for PS3 and recently bought a load off origin.........

Check out Fallout 3 game of the year edition on PS3 and come back and re evaluate your post.

For those who aren't aware, the GOTY edition on PS3 was notoriously buggy, despite the months of supposed optimization, QA and bug testing it was thought to have received since it release (DLC) months after the XBOX ver. In many ways it was worse than the initial retail in terms of "buggy ness"

I find it annoying Bethesda refuse to patch the Fallout 3 GOTY edition on PS3, they even go so far as to say there are no problems with it. It's not the nicest thing to do to gamers, but it is very smart on MS part. It is a small reason why multiplatformed games sell more on 360 then PS3. Anything with timed exclusive dlc mainly sells better for the system that gets the dlc first. And with bigger games, usually a bigger difference. I know most won't agree with my next statement, but Sony needs to do this a bit more, anything to get the company going in the right direction financially at this point helps. I know that even if MS drops a few million for timed dlc, they do gain something from it. At this point I don't want to see Sony get in more trouble then they are already in (business wise).

It wasnt smart on MS part this time . The game was already bound to sell better on 360 no matter what with it's fanbase established and cemented by the two previous elder scroll games .

And then you had the ps3 version issues and controversity helping skyrim on 360 further .

It's a waste of money to pay for the dlc time exclusivity of a game you already "own" .

At least with cod you have the thing about it still being the biggest fps on ps3 and one of the biggest game every genre combined too , so you gotta complete , but skyrim ? Not convinced , it's overkill .

I agree it wasn't as big as timed dlc for CoD (any of them). But there are so many small things that add up for MS when they do it. It does put ideas in many mid-tier players that dlc will be out on 360 before ps3. Which can overtime, help influence which system you buy your multiplatformed games for. And even if a small amount of people get skyrim or cod over the ps3 counterpart this is what adds up.... Extra money for live (you kinda need it for many games) and extra money for dlc purchase. About a year ago on an electronics site (I forget which one, but it was leaning twards the business side then the gaming). Made a huge point we all don't talk about much at all...

We all know gamers who play only 1 type of game, or specifically CoD games...

When a cod game sells for ps3 Sony makes peanuts compared to MS. The money made on having to purchase live jumps the profit, and the dlc jumps it. The site pointed out that it is almost a 4 to 1 difference. That is freaking huge! Even if it's less.... Like 2-1. That is huge......

Yes, skyrim doesn't come close to this, but it still factors in. If even 20,000 people more on 360 get the dlc it helps soooo much. (that is a fake number of course)

Overall Sony may be catering to gamers in a nicer, more honorable way, BUT it isn't helping them when it comes to the dollar and sense aspect. Sorry to say it but better business will make up a difference when these products are vying for money in a similar type market group.

Well let's face it, other than Halo 4 - the 360 hasn't exactly got much of an 'exclusive' line up this year, so I'm sure they're just grasping at straws and getting any kind of exclusive content before anyone else. I own both a PS3/360 and a gaming PC and yeah it sucks...but this is the kind of thing that's made me boycott the rest of this generation of gaming. DLC, timed exclusives for multiplatform titles, lack of equal support on multiplatform titles, release first and patch later philosophy and a bunch of other reasons. Sucks, but that's today's gaming for you.
