A Logical Breakdown of Why the Mass Effect 3 Ending Makes No Sense

Sick of hearing about Mass Effect 3's ending yet? If you're still furious over what went down, then you might find your opinion satisfactorily reaffirmed by this -- a logical breakdown of why Mass Effect 3's ending makes no sense.

This weighty tome, which is still being edited, compiles all the arguments against BioWare's narrative decisions. It's only concerned with the writing of the ending, not with the impact of player choices or the accusations that fans were lied to. It seeks to demonstrate why the plot simply does not work.

if bioware gives in to these entitled gamers you can kiss your dreams of gaming becoming an art form goodbye. Art is an expression of the artist not the critic. i wouldnt change my art because others dont like it.

how I'm I entitled for getting the 16 different endings Bioware said I would get but in actuality got one ending with three colors?

If it was art it was rushed and sloppy.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4420d ago

I didnt say that makes you entitled. Not liking the ending is one thing. You have your opinion. But trying to make Bioware change it does make you entitled. And please try not to spoil the ending. I havent seen it yet.

Christopher4420d ago

In what way does the document linked ask for BioWare to change the ending?

People need to stop treating everyone who analyzes the ending as if they are demanding the game to be changed. If that were the case, I would fall under that as well as I do not like the ending. I'm not asking it to be changed, but by my dislike of it I seem to fall under the same group that many people here are throwing everyone.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4420d ago

I wasn't talking about the document that was linked I was talking about the gamers who are actually trying to get Bioware to change the ending. Like I ALREADY SAID, not liking the ending isn't the problem. Everyone has their own opinions. Heck I might not even like it but I haven't seen it yet to judge. But if anyone demands that bioware change it then they are entitled and selfish. Mass Effect is Bioware's IP, it's Bioware's story, and it's Bioware's work of art, not theirs.

Reborn4420d ago

However, people do judge art. They don't force you to change it though. (maybe its name, or something)

Not every article is demanding something from Bioware, but rather giving their views on a 'huge' topic.

Pintheshadows4420d ago

It isn't art. Bioware admitted they changed the end to get people talking at the last minute. That has nothing to do with artistic integrity. If they'd kept the original ending i'd agree with you.

Hey what's up with the mass effect fiasco lately?
Can someone give me a brief recap without spoiling because I didn't played the game yet.

UnRated4420d ago

The game is great, like the best Mass Effect game. So, its pretty bloody fantastic. Some people think the ending is so bad that it makes entire experience of playing the game worthless. It's almost as if people only played through the Mass Effect games to get an ending, not for Sheperds journey.

Christopher4420d ago (Edited 4420d ago )

^^^ said with much opinion and should not be taken as fact.

IMHO, ME1 is still the best of the series. ME3 is about the same as ME2 for me. The ending is a huge let down, though.

And, yes, I played through every single Mass Effect for not only the journey but to get an ending for every squad member I managed to keep alive, become loyal to, and even romanced.

I don't expect BioWare to change their ending, I'm just very disappointed with it.

duplissi4420d ago

pretty much what ^ he said.

the game all the way up to the last 5 minutes is one of the best gaming experiences ive ever had, its that freakin good.

the ending is almost guaranteed to evoke an "ugh wtf just happened?" response in you though.

Bladesfist4420d ago

Im one of the people who loved the whole experience including the ending but im not really a mass effect fan and have not played 1 or 2.

LUCKYXS7LEVEN4420d ago

Not sure if people actually care for the Mass Effect 3 ending
or
just posting for hits

The attached document is merely showing logically-speaking why the ending doesn't quite work with the entire franchise.

I played all 3 games and loved them all, however I do agree the ending was a bit off. I'm not demanding Bioware change the ending, but I can't just disregard a disappointing / slapped-together ending that's supposed to end the trilogy.

It felt like a term paper that we've all written - by the time the conclusion arrives, we just want to finish the paper and have it done already. If we're going to refer to this game as art, then the ending should feel AS ARTISTIC as the entire game (Mass Effect 3) was.

Make no mistake, the game is awesome! But the ending...it's almost shocking how it was pretty much disjointed and mediocre.

That's why I respect this document - using facts, evidence, and logical arguments that merely discuss why the ending could have been just a tad bit more thought out.

...oh yeah, you absolutely have a right to disagree with gamers who feel the ending should be changed. Calling them "Entitled" and "Spoiled" only works with elitist people who believe what THEY say is what really counts. Disagree respectfully and stop with the name calling - you look worse than the "entitled" gamers themselves.
