February U.S. hardware sales for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and DS are now available.

By the looks of it, all three companies are doing fairly well! MS with their Xbox360, SONY with VITA, PSP and PS3 combined (lets not forget they are also selling PS2) and Nintendo with Wii and 3DS.

Healthy industry means great gaming future. Please don't let someone else let you think otherwise. We need these companies competing for the top spot all the time. Competition drives everything from great hardware to great software. It's good to be a gamer REGARDLESS of the camp you are in.

Sony never provides numbers for any of their consoles and NPD never shows any either. I always wonder why they do that....its not like the numbers are bad. Look at the PS3, its ahead of the Wii.

nope, sony has been outselling nintendo in the hardware department for a while now. Last week global sales:

I hate to break it to you but those numbers are far from accurate.

In 2011 its a fact that nintendo sold the most hardware and software worldwide than either microsoft or sony, including the number 1 system worldwide.

vgchartz have always been estimates before the sales data than corrected following the release of actual data. should you choose to take them as accurate is up to you. nevertheless, for 2011 its true Nintendo when DS, 3DS and Wii combined outsold Sony's PS3 and PSP but the Wii failed to outsell the PS3 (14 million for the ps3 vs 11.7 million for the Wii). Moreover, you are also wrong about software as Sony outsold Nintendo. Sony 146 million vs Nintendo 135 million. I am far from a fanboy, just wanted to correct your claims made of the top of your head. Cheers.

Are they good numbers though? The 360 dropped 20% year over year and the PS3 was down 10%. I think quarterly data is more useful in defining the overall health of console sales, but on the surface drops of 20% and 10% year over year aren't something that companies want to see, especially Sony with the struggles they're having with their other divisions and the continued strength of the yen versus other western currencies.

Well the 360 is nearly 7 years old and hasn't had a price drop in years. Literally. I'd say that's pretty good.

PS3 numbers are decent as well considering it's February.
I'm more concerned about the Vita numbers.

Your comment was just as insecure. Quality is subjective. Just because you think one console is more valuable and is a better quality for you does not mean it applies to everyone.

I have a 360 and PS3. I find that my 360 gives me more value at the moment. It's my opinion. Difference is I don't go around preaching my opinion as though it is a fact or putting other people down for their choice.

As far as Sony and Microsoft are concerned SALES > EVERYTHING ELSE.

This was a great bounce back showing from January for the industry BUT... the numbers seem to be across the board down from last year again for the "consoles".

Feb 2011 the main consoles did this: Xbox 360: 535,000, Wii: 454,000, PS3: 403,000

Feb 2012 they came in lower...again: Xbox 360:426K
PS3: 360K, Wii: 228K

How is it that the 3DS is continuing to sell at a consistent pace when the "superior" iPad/iPhone/Android market is dominating the casuals? Shouldn't there be a decline since the 3DS have less than half the features of the IoS devices?

NPD sales numbers are still based only on certain retail outlets like WalMart, where people walk into a store and buy something, right?

If that's the case, these numbers become more and more meaningless as time goes on. Solid numbers across the board for retail, but I would imagine actual numbers when you add in online sales would be much, much higher.

Ok here's the thing... The source of these numbers is neoGAF, which means these numbers are as fake as the numbers on VGchartz.

The source comes from (if you haven't read the title) the NPD, not NEOgaf. They are rank as one of the most top research companies in North America and are considered the most creditable sources of information.
