Razongunz4477d ago

aw damn! was hoping for a remake!

oh well its still a great game and i'm sure it will look nice in HD, i'll get it anyway.

Danteh4477d ago

I don't know what some of you people are smoking but given the extremely poor record of Squeenix they would probably change Wakka for some black guy with a chocobo in his head and make the battles just a press X mash-fest.

I want the best Final Fantasy ever made (FFX) in HD but untouched plx

grailly4477d ago

@danteh
SQ-E haven't done the best job with new games lately, but you can't say they don't know how to remake games. FF4 and tactics ogre are great games

C L O U D4476d ago

The "some black guy with a chocobo in his head" is actually one of the best Final Fantasy characters

Kalowest4476d ago

@Danteh
Sazh Katzroy is the "some black guy with a chocobo in his head" and he's one of the best characters in FFXIII.

BigPenguin4476d ago

Sahz was absolutely the best character in FFXIII. However the rest of the cast was such shit that being the best character in that game would not be very hard.

I think what you are all focusing on is the wrong point. Instead of talking about how Sahz was the best, you should be talking about how everyone but Sahz was dildos. He only looked good by comparison.

Simon_Brezhnev4476d ago

LOL @ Danteh

You can tell your pretty racist. Sazh was the best character in FF13. Your favorite character was probably Hope.

jthamind4476d ago

the trophies seem like they'll be the only selling point of the game. i got the God of War Collection, and the supposed "HD" isn't much different than the original unless you're doing some Lens of Truth BS.

tawak4476d ago

Sazh, is one of the saviour for my in ff13 as he is my 1st character to learned "haste" which helps me alot in tough battles

Megaman_nerd4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

that's true @jthamind. I was very surprised by how little difference there was between the GOW collection and the original games and that's why I was hoping for the rumors about FFX remake to be true.

I already have 2 copies of FFX for PS2 and based on experience I know that HD will not make that much of a difference so I'm not that interested anymore. =/

nevercloser074476d ago

Odds I can use my PS2 version guidebook to help catch all the monsters for the arena?

RurouniKaze4476d ago

woah woah woahh I take offense when you people say that Sazh was the only cool character in FFXIII.

Lightening was pretty cool too ! Dont let her awe terrible surroundings drag her down too ;(

wolokowoh4476d ago

@jthamind and megaman_nerd There is a difference, It is just so far zoomed out most of the time you can't notice it. The major difference I noticed going from a 23 inch SDTV to a 32 inch LCD is that the character textures were smoother. For instance, you can see the boobs on the Sirens and Gorgons much more clearly in GOW1. I didn't even notice that one of the siren's tits was hanging out before playing the HD remake and I've played GOW1 literally a couple dozen times. The smoothest GOW HD remaster is Ghost of Sparta in Origins Collection though because there was significant upgrade that is easily noticeable.

MaxXAttaxX4476d ago

because he was the only main character with no hair bangs. And also because he didn't saying or did annoying sh*t all the time and had a descent back story on top of that.
____

@ EVERYONE-WHO-THOUGHT-FFX-WOULD -BE-A-REMAKE,

*Facepalm*
Seriously? How could you not tell it would be an HD/High-res remaster a la MGS HD.
It's implied in the name! Square Enix wouldn't do it unless the game is 20 years old and/or 2D.

nanometric4476d ago

I'm sorry, but imho, Sazh was one of the most annoying characters, together with Hope. The dude is the definition of bipolar. I just couldn't stop laughing at the stupidity that unfolded in a cutscene, just before he got his Eidolon - I lost my kid, there is no point in living anymore...Ok, ok, I'm fine now...Oh no, It's all your fault Vanille, now I'm gonna kill you... Ok, I'm not gonna kill you, I'm fine again... LIFE IS SO DEPRESSING, I'M GONNA PUT THIS GUN TO MY HEAD AND SHOOT MYSELF... Oh, sorry, changed my mind again...

Taz Yamauchi4476d ago

I already have it in HD on PC I was hoping for a remaster

MaxXAttaxX4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

Then I guess it's not for you then, is it.

Aside from Trophies, there may be some new texture details that were not seen before (on PS2 or emulated on PC). Plus it won't be stretched to widescreen format.

Hopefully its part of the buy once get both deal. Also i wonder if playing it on both vita and psn doubles ur trophies.

coryok4476d ago

i hope the ps3 version comes with a download code for the vita version

fluffydelusions4477d ago

I could have sworn SE this was going to be more than just an HD remake...

Kstaa184476d ago

Yeah, last I heard it was going to be remastered.

Larry L4476d ago

I remember all the articles from when SE first announced this, it was stated in the press release, and then cleared up by official translators instead of random internet people translators, stated that it's actually a mixture of both a HD remaster and remake. Meaning for the most part it's just a remaster, but alot of the in-battle character/aeon/enemy models looked bad and so thos particular assets that looked bad or didn't work were being remade.

My memory isn't the best, but I'm pretty sure they got pretty specific (for a small statement anyway) about which assets were being remade. I know summons were one for sure, and I think all in-battle character models.

DA_SHREDDER4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

If they had just made everything in HD but revamped the Blitz Ball I would be hysterically happy right now. But Square are nothing but a bunch of milkit's with no knowledge of what it means to make a real FF game. BTW, adding time travel ( a total rip off of chrono trigger) and some towns is not a way to redeem your fans and try to win back their loyalty. I realize that even before the radiation leaks that happened last year, the Japanese have lost touch of what making a good game is. Sure there are some devs that have some skills, like From Software, but even devs like Level 5 have yet to prove they are relevant anymore.

Edit: Im pretty glad they aren't "remaking" FFX. I'm almost positive they would have totally fucked it up.

Drummerdude414477d ago

...how can you know what it means to make a FF game if you haven't made one. Personally i don't really care because it's their vision, their goals...

iamtehpwn4476d ago

Actually, it looks like rumors we read much hold true:

“It’s being developed like a remaster, but the visuals will be much more improved compared to the original game,” said Hashimoto.

http://www.novacrystallis.c...

The rumors never confirmed a ground up remake they said:

Use the same engine that Final Fantasy XIII and adapted to PSVita.
All that is made from scratch with the new engine is the design of the characters, the aeons and stage elements.
The sets and scenes in HD remasters CGI will implement a “filter” FFXIII Engine.
The magic and some lighting effects are achieved with the new engine “Luminous”.
The Blitzball undergo small changes.
Online options will include (not yet known details).

So all that can be true while still being a remaster because they aren't remaking the entire game and having improved graphics--and would also explain why its taking so long to release screenshots.

Arksine4476d ago

Hmm, so is this going to be like Halo Anniversary? Same game, but using the Halo Reach engine with updated models and textures.

VileAndVicious4476d ago

Hmmm if it were a flat out remake id be interested in this. But to be honest ffx was amongst one of my least favorite in the series. I never cared for the battle system, cast, blitzball, or Titus lol.

I really just wish square would release versus. I've been waiting for about 6 years now lol

ReservoirDog3164476d ago

Haha, I was actually hoping for a remaster. So it'd have the same feel to it instead of it having a new look. I basically just want the same game for 100% nostelga.

SpaceFox4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

Same here man. Dont fix what isnt broken.

badz1494476d ago

a remake? with SE, there's pretty much 0% chance THAT will ever happen!

Razongunz4476d ago

*sadface* oh well it would be awesome though but i got FFXIII-2 collector's edition + collector's edition guide as a valentine gift so i'll be busy with that for the time beeing, and then versus should be coming in the next 5+ years /s so looking forward to that, and meybe i'll see if i can get a classic psp game to download onto my ps vita + FFX HD, oh and one piece on 3ds in 4 days so i'm stuffed with games to play xP

Snookies124477d ago

Lame, they really could have won fans back over with a remake... :\

Panthers4476d ago

This game still looks good enough where a remake is unnecessary.

Lulz_Boat4477d ago (Edited 4477d ago )

i don't know if at SquareEnix people are stupids... or don't like money..

in both case, they remain idiots.

shikamaroooo4477d ago

If they where to make a remake, by the tine it would release next gen would arrive. Would take time modelling characters CGI etc.

Snookies124476d ago

Of course it would take a long time, but at least they'd be doing something they know fans will like for once.

Greyfoxdbz4476d ago

haha, at the rate FFVersus13 is going, its going to miss next generation nevermind this one

Blaine4476d ago

Don't like money? Releasing a re-skinned FFX is a lot more cost-efficient than re-making it, and will probably sell just as much.

I'm with you that a remake would have been a lot better, but I'm not foolish enough to think that it would have been a better financial decision for Squeenix.

Also, I never expected this to be a remake to begin with. With the huge fan demand for FFVII to be remade, if Squeenix had been willing to remake a game, it would have been that one. Instead they picked FFX since it's the easiest one to re-release.

So they're not stupid, but that doesn't mean I like what they're doing either. Will I buy this? Hell no. I love FFX, played the hell out of it, did everything there is to do in that game (I even remapped the entire sphere-grid to maximize all the nodes so all my characters could have all their stats maxed out--I mean it when I say I did everything!), why would I do it again? But, if they had remade FFVII, I definitely would have bought that, if only for the nostalgia. It was literally the first game I ever bought! (Not the first I played, but the first I bought myself.)

Cocozero4477d ago

Not a surprise, still can't wait for this one, FFX was my favourite FF.

Panthers4476d ago

Yup. My second favorite after 7. I never played 6 though.

VileAndVicious4476d ago

You liked x more than 9!?
Or more than xii!? I dunno didn't have fond memories of ffx. Other than auron...yeah...auron was awesome!

VsAssassin4476d ago (Edited 4476d ago )

@Vile, I like FF9, but I also like FF10. Personally, I like FF9 more. There's no comparison between FF10 and FF12, though, since FF12 didn't have much coherence in the character-story development. Vaan and Penelo didn't have reason to fight. Ashe and Basche had a reason but it wasn't fleshed out really.
On topic: Well, I just hope they release this soon. Last thing we need is to hear SE say they delayed FFvs13 because of this FF10 remaster.

VileAndVicious4476d ago

@vs

I agree ffxii had the weakest story overall. Bit to me the game play mostly made up for it. Sure I wasn't a huge fan of the license board but combat was fUN the world was sprawling and there was so much to do! I invest about 150 hours worth of gameplay into it which its something I haven't done since the days of ff tactics

Square Enix Declares $140m Loss Amid Game Pipeline Shakeup

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth publisher Square Enix has declared a $140m loss based on a shakeup of its internal development pipeline.

techraptor.net
Furesis8d ago

What are they doing over there? Sounds like they canceled something big. I read a rumor a while back about ff9 remake . Here "Final Fantasy IX has gone through a very challenging development, the game is still in progress but may undergo changes drastic enough that we won't hear about it for a couple of years."
This could be one of the reasons if the rumor is true. That was Silknight i don't know how credible he is but it's something and it would make sense.

-Foxtrot8d ago

I hope IX is still on the cards

Just a straight up remake which they expand a little bit nothing over ambitious

If IX dosent happen then VI and VIII will never be thought of.

Kakashi Hatake8d ago

6 and 8 were way more p popular games despite today's cult following of 9.

blackbeld7d ago

I want my FF8 remake! Can't believe they cancelled it.

TiredGamer8d ago

What are they doing? Sales are falling and the costs are out of control. Big releases need to be absolute sales home runs now, and Final Fantasy sales have stagnated.

Now we know why Square didn’t fall over themselves to remake the original FF7 all these years ago. It certainly wasn’t a license to print money, at least not with what the expectations were. Each of these full on remakes drains an enormous amount of company resources for a razor thin profit margin.

TwoPicklesGood8d ago

Breaking the game up into multiple parts was a mistake IMO.

blackblades8d ago

The loses came from cancelling games nothing else.

Tapani7d ago

They lost the magic in the remakes. And the story is incomplete. The original FF7 is still way better. The Remake / Rebirth are just fan service. Like an Anime/Manga with "optional" filler content. FF7 had pretty much zero filler, it was paced extremely well, and still today flows much better than the grindy story and spongey enemy battles in the remakes.

babadivad7d ago

If they released it at once on all platforms, they would have made all of their money back. Could have been on to an FF8 or 9 remake. Ready to cash in again on nostalgia like Capcom. This is their fault for trying to milk the title.

Once I head they were breaking it up into parts, I lost all interest.

neutralgamer19927d ago

I hope people understand usually when a loss is declared it means a game which had been in development got cancelled. For example Sony Santa Monica before GOW-PS4 had cancelled a project which Sony had spent 7 figures on

As far as square is concerned they release a bad game once a year. Forspoken anyone?

For those making comments on remake not selling well, I hope y’all realize that Sony is the only reason this remake is happening. If Sony didn’t fund it the remake wouldn’t be happening. Just like Konami didn’t want to remake SH2 because development costs of 100 plus million

shadowT8d ago

Do not miss Final Fantasy 16. Great game!

raWfodog8d ago

I'm waiting for them to release the complete edition bundle, but it's definitely on my list.

PhillyDonJawn8d ago

Wth is going on with the gaming industry?

mandf8d ago

Corporate investors taking everything

TiredGamer8d ago

Not rocket science. Compare sales numbers, development cycles, and budgets to the previous gens. We are all collectively burning up the industry from the inside out. Expectations are ludicrously high now for every release and sales are dropping for even the most prestigious of series.

We used to be satisfied paying $50-60 for a game that took 1/100th the budget and staff to make. Now gamers feel cheated if they have to pay the same for a game that took 100x the budget. We may be reaching the end of the line for this model of gaming.

wiz71918d ago

@tiredgamer I think your point is one that ppl don’t understand and you hit it on the nose .. some gamers don’t want to take accountability but it’s some of the gamers fault the industry is where it’s at .. we as gamers set the standards for the industry not the shareholders , ppl forget that the shareholders and the industry want and need OUR Money. Both the Xbox and PlayStation are seeing a drop in hardware , the industry is very stagnant right now.

Tacoboto8d ago

Speaking to Square:

Turns out their mismanagement wasn't related to the western studios they dumped to Embracer, but their own fault.

With regards to Xbox - a good way to kill your brand is to pull support on high quality titles and only dump B and C-tier titles to it

With regards to PC - Epic Games Story exclusivity for any duration and piss-poor optimization will hurt you.

With regards to FF Pixel Remasters - y'all messed up by barely releasing them on physical, like wtf that was free money!

And lastly, you don't help a franchise by releasing a mainline title that undermines every title that came before it. FFXVI was a DMC-like with bottom-of-the-barrel side quests and I can't imagine that helping Rebirth at all considering its marketing is directly tied to how big that game is.

Tacoboto8d ago

Sony is getting their best titles and with the most polish, so what about it? Nintendo gets their top properties too, for titles that can run on Switch hardware.

It's the other fanbases that get the second- and third-class treatment from Square. If that's due to agreements with Sony, that's not a Sony issue but a Square one for accepting those terms. Sony is doing its best to look out for Sony.

wesnytsfs7d ago

sales and stupid practices like exclusives.

TiredGamer8d ago

The industry implosion is continuing. Sky high budgets, prolonged development windows, stagnant sales numbers, and falling currency values (inflation) are wreaking havoc on the legacy industry. AAA games will slowly become the rarity.

CS78d ago

Sad. Rebirth was one of my favorite games in a long time. Should have sold more.

CrimsonWing698d ago

Oh I’m with you. What’s worse is they can say, “Well we tried to make this amazing game and spend all this money on, but not enough people showed an interest. So no more of these since we can’t take a hit like that.”

The industry is going to take a dramatic shift. Mark my words on this.

rpvenom8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

I think there is quite a large portion of individuals like myself who held out on buying it on PS5 because I can get it on PC eventually. To be able to mod the game and also have custom graphical settings to my liking

gold_drake8d ago

same

but im not sure if it matters at all. im sure they made sony pay a hefty sum for the 3parter to come on ps5 exclusively. so watever they made in sales, might have come bk in profits for square, but i dont know
and we dont know what "underperformed" even means for square.

Square & Bandai Namco Being Honest About Quality Is A Step In The Right Direction

Saad from eXputer: "After suffering from massive financial hits, Square Enix & Bandai Namco appear to be turning over a new leaf but I'm still unconvinced."

Nerdmaster9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

I was talking about games with some Japanese guys here in Japan, and it seems like around here Bandai Namco has a fame of making low-quality games, with the occasional gem.

About Square Enix, I believe they lack the capacity to improve. They should learn with Capcom (although even Capcom still makes some bad mistakes), but I don't think they ever will. They keep chasing whatever is new at the time (blockchain, AI...) to say "we innovate", without considering the public perception and if these things actually improve the games or not. Them releasing too many small games with no advertising also shows a lack of trust in its own products. Even with their biggest games, like turning FF into an action game with XVI and the very divisive plot changes regarding whispers and timelines in VII Remake, shows them trying to attract a new generation of gamers without understanding what made the series so big in the first place.

shinoff21839d ago

I want a true ff7 remake. With thatcsaid I'm way happier with 7 remake then I was with ff16. I'd still prefer turn based but square keep chasing these Lil kids

Snookies129d ago

Man, it is perfectly fine to prefer turn based. Turn based is amazing. But there's zero reason to call anyone who likes action games "lil kids". Liking one gameplay system over another does not make you more mature in any way.

VersusDMC9d ago

People love the new FF's overall...the problem is the abundance of 7's they release that lose money or make very little like diofield, star ocean divine force, Valkyrie asylum, harvestella, foam stars, etc. Advertising wouldn't have saved those games. Apparently Forespoken had a big Advertising budget but we saw how that went.

shinoff21839d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Star ocean divine force actually sold well from what I've read not ff type numbers but well enough. Was a dope game to.

FinalFantasyFanatic9d ago

Bandai Namco is going to Bandai Namco, I do believe that Square Enix can't change without changing the entire management, they've had these issues for more than a decade and haven't learnt, I have very little faith they can course correct. I'll still buy their better remasters/remakes like Star Ocean 2 though (not FF7R).

Asterphoenix9d ago

Namco is just milking the same Sword Art Online with lack of budget as well as anime IPs that don't go to decent developers like Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia. Namco deserves their losses and no future Dot Hack or Xenosaga remaster :(.

Square allocated lot of their budget on Forspoken was a mistake. Square always had management issues. Star Ocean 2 was a great remake and I found their recent entries of FF(16 and Rebirth) better than 13 and 15.
I think they were better than 360/PS3 generation where Square went really downhill.

CrimsonWing699d ago

I don’t know why NOW they decide on this, but I guess later is better than never.

I’m Glad Atlus & SE Changed Dates To Avoid Competing With Shadow Of The Erdtree

Saad from eXputer: "I'm glad I don't have to choose between Square Enix, Atlus, and FromSoftware due to bad release windows and Shadow of the Erdtree."

H915d ago

More intelligent than guerilla games

raWfodog14d ago (Edited 14d ago )

Atlus is releasing their game one week before Erdtree, SE is releasing theirs one week after.

HZD released four days before Zelda, HFW released one week before Elden Ring.

It seems to me like they are still releasing their games too close to Erdtree.

VincentVanBro13d ago (Edited 13d ago )
