Reuters reports from Chiba, Japan:
Nintendo announced that "Wii Fit" would go on sale on December 1 in Japan for 8,800 yen ($75), sending its shares to a record high. Wii Fit features a pressure-sensitive floor mat called the "Wii Balance Board", which can sense a player's movement and enables the player to "head" a soccer ball, ski jump, or exercise yoga and aerobics in a video game. Wii Fit will launch overseas in 2008.
Analysts have said that Wii Fit is likely to be the next major sales driver for the Wii. Nintendo's announcement came just a day after Sony had said it would cut PS3's price and launch a new model in Japan. The announcement sent Nintendo's shares up 4.9 percent to a record closing high at 65,800 yen ($561), while Sony fell 0.7 percent to 5,780 yen ($49) and the Nikkei average was up 0.1 percent.
This hardcore gamer grandma has put nearly 4,000 days into Wii Fit!
The NPD Group has revealed the top 10 best-selling exclusives in the U.S. since 1995, and Nintendo holds all 10 spots.
Nintendo has always had the most mass appeal, my Mother would play Mario.
There's landslides and then there's this. Wouldn't be surprised if the top 50 was mostly Nintendo games.
VGChartz's William D'Angelo: "Today we take a look at the top 10 best-selling games for yet another platform. Up to this point we have looked at the original PlayStation, the Nintendo 64, the PlayStation 2, the original Xbox, the GameCube, the Nintendo DS, and the PSP. This week it's the turn of Nintendo's most popular home console, the Wii.
The Wii is the fifth best-selling video game platform in history and the third best-selling home console in gaming history. It is also the best-selling home console not released by Sony. It sold 101.18 million units lifetime."
Just like the DS list, every game on the Wii's list has sold over 10 million. Not even PS1 and PS2 did that. That's very incredible
Any news of a US release date yet? I'm interested to see if this thing will actually sell. I know my girlfriend wants one. It doesn't really interest me unless other games like possibily a snowboarding game or skateboarding game use it.
Now that I think of it... maybe you could use it as a gas pedal and brake for a car racing game or even as a "pedal" (forgot the name of it) for a guitar to make the sound last.
this will sell 500k the first day [If Nintendo Has enough supplies to go around]
There are many people looking forward to this as a new way to use their wii. The applications for this balance board are practically endless.
I can already see the same people using the Wii for physical therapy using this as a new/cheaper tool to help in the assessment of muscular strength and dexterity.
Though this is not geared towards the "hard core" crowd, there are many places where this could be used. For instance as mentioned before, skate boarding/surfing games.
I think part of the reason for the "delay" is because Nintendo believes they will sell every single one of them when they release in North America. One thing is for sure, they will sell at least one (to me :)).
