Metal Gear Solid Boss Countdown: #10 – #6

Come with us now on a journey through time and space as we delve into one of the elements that helped solidify Metal Gear Solid as one of greatest video game franchises of all time. Over the next few weeks, 6A will hand pick Hideo Kojima's ten best boss confrontations, and deliver them in two parts - kind of like the two discs on PSX.

Best thing I've read in a long time on here. First started playing this game(s) Dec 26th 1998 and been super hooked ever since. I just had no idea back then it would become all that it has over the years.

^^ These are indeed the kind of articles one would expect on a gaming site. But they require a bit more time and brainpower than flamebait articles..

Yeah this list is great, it is a good read. I guess i'm the only sucker who fought mantis the hard way in my first play through hehe.

I see there's no Mgs4 bosses on there yet. I don't think any mgs4 bosses deserve to be on the list, except maybe Ray v Rex and the final battle of Liquid v snake. I just didn't feel the beauty and the beast, their only purpose in the game was to be bosses and I didn't care much about them(except the one who killed the baby, I felt bad for her) but take Mgs1 for example, Sniper Wolf hurt meryle, Raven was a cun* that needed to be silenced, Mantis was a creep, grey fox was fu**ing brillant. And finally Liquid, Liquid was epic, he just kept coming back. Kill him in rex, kill him on rex, then he chases you down in a jeep.

Agreed, and you'll be happy to know that your thoughts are echoed in the top five. It just goes to show that graphics aren't everything; sometimes all it takes is a simple, inventive approach to development in order for a game to be a raging success.

MGS4 had an arsenal of technology at it's feet in the Playstation 3, but even now, after both the PSX and PS2 have become somewhat outdated, I'd still prefer to go back and play the boss battles from MGS and MGS3.

Thanks for the positive comments as well guys. Metal Gear is an amazing series that I've fallen in love with over the years, and as such, I put a lot of time and effort into this story.

Hope you all had as much fun reading as I did writing.

You keep writing and i'll keep reading.

opoikl5006d ago

for a top 10 IMO.

#1 - The End

RedDead5006d ago

One of the greatest moments in gaming imo. Something gamers should be proud of.

riksweeney5006d ago

I really need to get around to playing MGS3 just for this boss fight

cranium5006d ago

It took me an hour and a half to beat that mofo. I knew there was a sniper rifle somewhere on the map, I just didn't find it until way later in the fight X_X

I beated him in 20 seconds in the boss battle special mode. It was sheer luck: I was walking around some cliff, heard some snoring, looked up and there he was in the grass. I equiped my dragunov and BOOM HEADSHOT

Snake Eater has always been my favorite. That game was so ahead of it's time on the PS2. Loved everything about it. Which speaking of epic fights..... It's that game again that brought Big Boss and The Boss together for a epic battle there at the end.

Ocelot5255006d ago

my favourites:
-Liquid snake (mgs1)
-The Fury
-The Boss
-Solidus Snake
-Liquid Ocelot

mgs3 had the best set of bosses imo

Loved all the boss battles!
I really enjoyed sniper wolfs set-ups.

MGS is the best franchise that I have ever played. I just recently replayed all 4 of the main games after completing PW and I could do it all again right now.
