Will StarCraft II live up to the hype?

StarCraft II will be released on July 27, 2010. After years of speculation, discussion, screenshots, demos, beta testing, and probably hundreds of online and print articles on the game, Gamertell wonders if it'll be worth it.

It already has. If you have played the beta from start to finish and have been involved with the SC community, which I'm sure you haven't, in helping Blizzard make improvements on the game then you'd known that it already has. The game has come a long way since the beta started and the majority is satisfied with it.

I never played the Beta, I know someone who was in there (via the net, not personally through life) and he said he got a very massive impression that...

Metaphore coming

"It is like they are sitting there with you to see what you want from this game"

I have no reason to not believe him, so I am hoping they make a good one here. Starcraft was simply awesome, even down to the cutscenes, I am not expecting Starcraft to be better... just as good as #1 because that would mean it would be an awesome game. Possibly game of the year candidate.

Starcraft 2 appears to have been made with maticulate care, like they used to do with Warcraft when it is RTS. As popular as WOW is, Bizzard's speciality is this type of game, the Real Time Strategy. They are simply the masters of it.

I was in the beta for the last 2 months and it blew me away!

Depends on how hyped up each individual player is. It probably will, but we'll see what happens over the next week.

I'll probably enjoy the hell out of it.

From what I've played in the beta, not even close. They essentially just released the exact same game with a few minor tweaks and slightly updated graphics. Gameplay and units are pretty much identical and the feel of the game is exactly the same.

That being said, most Blizzard fans are idiots and will worship anything that company releases without being able to judge the game for what it actually is (I think they must have a missing gene or something) so I'm sure they'll all love it. I'm very disappointed by it, but judging by the million and a half first person shooters out there, and the fact that Uncharted 2 won game of the year last year from a million sites even though that, too, is just a linear 8 hour shooter just like every other game out there, people seem to want to play the same thing over and over and don't care about innovation. So I guess they're just giving fans what they want, more of the same thing they've been playing for the last 12 years. But not me, Blizzard. Not me. Dawn of War 2 has spoiled me for innovation in the sci-fi RTS genre, and I can't go back in time and play this outdated piece of crap, and I certainly can't bring myself to buy it three times either. They've single-handedly undone every bit of innovation that other companies have brought in the last 12 years by releasing the same game, and it will sell 10 million more copies than any other RTS which is just a damn shame.

So what you are saying is that with this game having uprated graphics and minor tweaks, it is essentially the same as the first game?

That would mean Starcraft 2 will be awesome. You seem to be in a very small minority, because Strcarft fans didn't want them to ruin the game by trying to change the essence of it.

I suppose you are the type of person that feels a company must change it's logo every year because "it looks old".

Another L for Xbox, when are they going to have good news?

MrDead4d ago

I would read the article but the giant pop-ups from the top and bottom of the screen made me close it.

Without reading $23.4 million isn't a deterrent for a company that size.

Boss: Let's fire a few people to recoup on that loss.
Slave: Cortana has decided to get rid of Arkane Austin and Tango Gameworks.
Boss: Let's get those Firing Letters "Copilot Approved" and send them through the power of the cloud.

Well another troll company with a patent trying to extort money out of companies. Seems like they’re going to try and sue everyone.

An Update on This Year’s BlizzCon and Blizzard’s 2024 Live Events

Blizzard writes: "After careful consideration over the last year, we at Blizzard have made the decision not to hold BlizzCon in 2024. This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it. While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years."

Diablo 4 storefront being a cash grabbing shitshow does unironically attest to that, kudos.

kythlyn25d ago

Microsoft needs to be guiding Blizzard to be what it USED to be, not allowing it to continue to be the greedy bastardization of itself that it has become.

XiNatsuDragnel26d ago (Edited 26d ago )

Okay i will be interested if they become old Blizzard but might as well be dead.

Rynxie26d ago

They will never be old blizzard. Most of all the OG's left from developers to those on the top (even some decision making folks left).

Vits26d ago

Shame most of the people that made Blizzard what they were, have already left a while ago.

ApocalypseShadow26d ago

I was about to say this. How can they be blizzard when they're no longer blizzard from yesteryear?

blacktiger26d ago

Rare was the thing I lost heart

victorMaje26d ago

Exactly. Blizzard hasn’t been Blizzard for a long time.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Knightofelemia26d ago

Blizzard is not the same Blizzard like it use to be.

PassNextquestion26d ago

Were you expecting Microsoft to hire everyone that had left Blizzard long before they purchased the company...

Microsoft has let the Blizzard company they purchased continue to be the Blizzard company they purchased.

thesoftware73026d ago

Wow, PassNextquestion,

You fully understand what that saying means, unlike some people on here who just have to say negative garbage talk.

When someone says, "Just let *blank* be *blank*, "they are just letting them operate how they operate.

It's pretty much how Sony "let Bungie be Bungie."

This comment section is full of outright haters, but you have to "let N4G be N4G"

GamerRN26d ago

This site leans so heavily in one direction...

BISHOP-BRASIL25d ago

I don't think people commenting are necessarily blaming MS for anything here, this is just collective longing for what Blizzard/Vivendi was before Activision's meddling.
