It's sold out on Amazon and Gamestop so hopefully the hardware change will reinvigorate demand and bring some AAA games to the Vita!

Neonridr3660d ago

The original model was more than adequate, so not sure why this newer model will spike sales. It's nice you are getting a game and an 8GB card with it though, the 4GB card is basically useless and shouldn't exist. I have a 16GB card and with all the PS+ stuff I have gotten over the past couple of months it is almost full.

Lowsnamebrand3660d ago

I only have the 8 GB and I've been OK until I got ffx HD and my girlfriend said "I want to play X2" and there went half my space on that diaster of a game.

TomShoe3660d ago

I'm waiting for the standalone version, but I want this. Bad.

Neonridr3660d ago

well Borderlands 2 takes up 5 of the 8GB anyways, so that card is not going to last very long.

Mr Pumblechook3660d ago

Over 28 months have past since the Vita was first launch.
A revised model has been released.
The Vita TV has been released in Asia.

-AND YET THERE IS STILL NO EASY WAY TO OUTPUT VIDEO TO TV OR CAPTURE FOOTAGE.

Conzul3660d ago

Yeah I really want to throw my Vita gameplay to my bigscreen TV.

I'd be replaying Gravity Rush and Uncharted in a heartbeat.

To be fair you can download some ps1 classics onto there if your not happy with the current ps vita line up. For example you could download Crash Bandicoot 1-3 and RE1-3

JoGam3660d ago

Sold Out? DAAAMN. I'm too late. Need that slim.

BattleTorn3660d ago

After much consideration, I chose to get the OLED model a few months ago

Conzul3660d ago

Eh, I'd try to snag an OLED. Those things are gonna be collectors-grade pretty fast.

I mean, EEEEW:

Neonridr3660d ago

@Conzul - yeah you can really notice the difference when watching those side by side. The only plus from the Slim model I can see is they fixed the Start and Select buttons. On the OLED model those buttons can be so annoying to locate and press when you are playing in the dark. Glad to see they made them bigger and raised them more off the surface.

Retroman3659d ago

Slim playstation vita at 199.00 and psp 3000 price still at 199.00 on Amazon what gives Sony???? by now psp 3000 should be at 65.00

I completely forgot the Slim was releasing today.

I debating waiting, but I bought an OLED in Feb, and I love it.

If it doesn't take off, at least it will remind everyone just how Beautiful the OLED screen is.

ShwankyShpanky3659d ago (Edited 3659d ago )

Got mine from Amazon yesterday (preordered end of March). This thing is the tits!

ill never understand sonys ignorance when it comes to storage space for the vita. The 8gb card included is good and all but considering we can buy 128gb sd cards now its incredibly frustrating that we are getting so ripped off for these custom memory sticks they are providing us with. It might be making life a bit harder for hackers but at the end of the day they are screwing the gamers. The hackers will win eventually

Lowsnamebrand3660d ago

I understand your logic but if the vita is anything like the ps3 its gonna be quite awhile, and vhbl is bringing us nowhere closer, doesn't seem like many hackers have interest in the vita sadly

SilentNegotiator3660d ago

But to be fair, they probably couldn't win. Either they would go into the 8th gen with a handheld fanbase full of pirates or a small userbase.

They would have been better off with the pirates, though; at least then they could sell hardware.

NerdBurglars3660d ago

thats actually an interesting point. would be hard to sell this business model to Sony but it is interesting all the same

SilentNegotiator3660d ago

"would be hard to sell this business model to Sony"

Especially when they insist on having the most powerful handheld and taking a loss.

dodgemoose3660d ago

'They would have been better off with the pirates, though; at least then they could sell hardware.'

... and then it would have had literally no support from game developers.

SilentNegotiator3659d ago

Divebombing third party support didn't stop them from selling a bunch of PSPs at the end of the 7th gen.

ShwankyShpanky3659d ago

The card pricing sucks, but considering all my PS+ freebies, I probably won't actually buy a game for quite a while, and they've gotta make money somewhere, so I don't hold it against them too hard.

mogwaii3660d ago

Hasnt this also got a inferior screen compared to the normal version?

NerdBurglars3660d ago

yep it has the same lcd screen that isnt as good as the originals oled screen

BattleTorn3660d ago

Which is precisely why I didn't bother waiting for the Slim to reach NA, I prefer the OLED over LCD

Fixay3660d ago

Go for the OLED version if you want a PSVita, the screen is amazing. However i've heard the slim is much more comfortable to hold, so it may make sense to go for comfort over teh screen lol

Also the inbuilt memory on the slim can only be used for game saves etc and not for games, in case any one doesn't know

Cam9773660d ago (Edited 3660d ago )

Seriously don't buy one there aren't enough games right now, you'll see in 6 months time. Not to mention data management is atrocious and the system had piss-poor support (leggy games being released, no thanks).

dodgemoose3660d ago

Gotta say I disagree with regards to games. Not going to suggest it has lots of stuff coming, because it hasn't - basically jack all in fact. However, it's got enough titles under its belt to last a new owner quite some time.

mogwaii3660d ago

The ONLY reason id buy one is for the ps4 remote play but even that is a bit gimmicky and i feel i would soon get bored of that, would rather play on my 55" tv than a tiny screen.

Inception3660d ago

There's enough games for vita right now

farhad2k83660d ago

I've owned a VITA since day one back in 2012, since then I've played Uncharted, Wipeout, Gravity Rush, Little Big Planet VITA, Resistance Burning Skies, Unit 13, Tearaway, Killzone Mercenaries and soon I'll be playing Borderlands 2. The console has been fantastic, and those games I have listed are only the exclusives, games such as Terraria, Guacamelee, FIFA, Hotline Miami, FEZ, Limbo, The Walking Dead, SF x Tekken, CoD Declassified, MGS Collection, Mortal Kombat and MANY more multi-plat games have given me HOURS of enjoyment, it's a fantastic little portable console.

Microsoft once tried to nab LittleBigPlanet from Sony after a few drinks

It turns out that many moons ago, Microsoft once had its eye on the Sony published LittleBigPlanet series.

Microsoft had a good idea but fumbled it again.

Cacabunga3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Project Spark idea was decent but they quickly gave up ..
LBP was wonderful

ApocalypseShadow4d ago

Microsoft in a nutshell. Always tried to poach Sony employees, games, 3rd party games and devices like the depth camera that was turned into Kinect but was running on PS2 before Xbox 360. Wouldn't be surprised they wanted LBP. Just like they worked behind the scenes pushing the MLB to bring Sony's baseball game to Xbox instead of making their own.
https://www.playstationlife...

They didn't spend years trying to develop their own baseball game. They wanted Sony's game.

They're scum.

Zachmo1823d ago

Microsoft didn't force MLB on Xbox. MLB gave Sony 2 options either go multiplat or risk losing the license.

Rynxie2d ago

And why do you think MLB said that? I believe Ms approached MLB.

ApocalypseShadow2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Totally ridiculous comment.

The only exclusivity Sony had was to their own creation of The Show. Microsoft could have paid the MLB for the license just like Sony did and made their own baseball game.

Microsoft instead, groomed MLB for years in trying to poach Sony's game and bring it to Xbox. They're worth 3 TRILLION dollars. You think that's not enough money to make their own baseball game? Don't be delusional.

Microsoft spun it like they always do and told the media that they had to trust Sony with their hardware. After they put Sony in that position of not having a choice. Either go multiplatform or stop making one of their successful games. That's a no win scenario.

And what did Microsoft do? They didn't try to sell the game to the Xbox community. They put it on game pass to hurt Sony. Pushing the idea of why buy games that are $70 when you can play them in their cheap service for $10. It was a dirty tactic.

You fell for the Kool aid drink Microsoft served you instead of spitting it out. Hope it tasted good because you were fooled by Phil and the gang.

Xbox executive Sara Bond has told Axios that Microsoft spent a number of years trying to get MLB The Show onto Xbox consoles. And when it finally succeeded in breaking off PlayStation’s long-held exclusivity, the company had to “trust” Sony with pre-release Xbox Series X/S consoles.

Bond revealed that MLB The Show “always came up” in conversations between Microsoft and the Major League Baseball organization. “We always said, ‘We love this game. It would be a huge opportunity to bring it to Xbox.'” she recalled. However, when Microsoft’s efforts materialized, it put the company in an awkward situation where it had to send in pre-release consoles to a rival company.

Lying to yourself is unbecoming.

Article link tells you all you need to know in Sarah Bond's own words.

Hereandthere2d ago

They were too cheap/inept/lazy to develop their own mlb game, so they port begged for years and bribed the mlb to make the show multiplatform. Like i said many times, xbox brought nothing to the table their 24 years, ZERO.

ApocalypseShadow2d ago

At least you and others get it. Note drank the Kool aid and asked for seconds thinking it was refreshing.

Most don't even know how it all played out but it's there in black and white for all to see. Microsoft brought it up for years until the MLB forced Sony's hand. It was a win win for Microsoft. Kill one reason to buy a PlayStation or kill the game by dropping it in a cheap service to kill Sony's sales numbers on PlayStation.

OtterX3d ago

"However, Healey said Media Molecule wouldn't have felt right doing that, adding it would have been "morally corrupt"."

Major kudos to Media Molecule for being an upright studio with principles.

Cockney1d 19h ago

They chose well, Sony gave them the backing to pursue their dreams with no restrictions even tho their games especially dreams have very niche appeal. Media molecule and Sony deserve respect for this in an age of risk averse publishing.

RNTody3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Great, more stories like this please. Show the last of the zombies holding the line what we've been saying for years: Microsoft is anti competition, anti industry and has no interest in making games at all.

But hey, at least there's an Xbox Games Showcase to look forward to, right?

Inverno3d ago

Well considering SONY just killed the series, LBP would've been dead by now either way. Though MM probably wouldn't exist by now either, so I'm glad they stayed with SONY, hopefully they don't get shut down any time soon or ever honestly.

Inverno3d ago

They shut down the servers, that's millions of user created levels gone. That and dead are pretty much the same, it's also been years since 3 and they cancelled HUB soooo.

2d ago
fsfsxii2d ago

They shutdown the servers because no one was playing, no one in the community cared about the user created levels so why keep them up? Wtf you guys would never succeed in running a business.

Inverno2d ago

Yea dood no one was playing so they shut off the servers. Cause people with enough common sense can't just Google why they were actually shut of, right?
