Absolutely awesome. It deserves that and more. The thing is just gaming heaven. It's so highly polished; the controls are perfect; it's challenging and highly rewarding; it looks beautiful like a cartoon; and it's just an absolute pleasure to play.

It's a gift from the gaming Gods, a pure Nintendo classic. You play it and you wonder just how much work must have been put in to it.

I have to say though, I bet anyone who complained about Retro working on DK and the Kranky Kong announcement are eating their own words now. Retro are masters and it shows in this game. And Kranky Kong's mechanics are a thing of brilliance, it's so much fun playing through a level with him - especially time trials.

I can understand the whole Kranky Kong thing, people expected something aimed at mature players, since it was VGX, and Kranky Kong had already been leaked 5 days prior.
But I agree on the whole "Retro shoulda been making Metroid" thing. That's just stupid. It was Retro's decision to continue with the Donkey Kong franchise, Nintendo didn't influence it. If Nintendo had forced them to work on Metroid, then the game wouldn't have been as inspired as DK was. It wouldn't have had as much heart.
It would have been a worse game.

With that said, I still kinda hope Retro is working on the next Metroid out of choice now. They've had their time to think about it. But if they're not working on Metroid then I'm completely fine. I'm fine as long as they keep making good games.

Nintendo are too modest and always just let their games do the talking, rather than bragging and shouting (most of the time totally overhyped and unwarranted) about it like gamers are so used too from the other games makers.

What they should have done at VGX is have a skilled/pro gamer there and played a speed run with Kranky Kong, and people might have 'got it' more than they did.

Everyone is hoping for an epic 3D adventure from Retro, but gamers shouldn't feel they have to right and demand to be able to tell Nintendo what they should do with their own studios.

For all anyone knows the foundations of a new Metriod might have been underway for some time - outsourced - ready for Retro to jump in after DK was finished. I mean, who knows.

But Retro's talent has definitely not been 'wasted' on DK as soom would like to argue.

It really it is something to see. It's amazing to look at. Plays great but also challenging. I've never seen anything quite like it. Quality throughout.

I agree ive not had as much fun with a game like I am having with DK at the moment.

Glad to see some good comments, was slightly worried after reading the Gamespot review.

OldDanNew3714d ago

I can't wait to play it. Not a bad performance considering the install base etc.

Not too shabby. I hope the Wii U gets a nice boost in hardware sales

edit: Only 2 days of tracking - very impressive.

Good to see Rayman back in the top ten also. Great to see 2D platformers doing so well.

Listen I don't pretend to understand the culture over in Europe or what they find amazing as far as great games go. Its good to see great games like DK:TF on their charts but these people are losing major credibility with Aliens CM's still being on the charts! Who's buying this horrible, horrible game over there? Really! Seriously! The game sucks... ... ...

OldDanNew3714d ago

It's bonkers isn't it? Everyone HATED that game, and yet....and yet.....

I'm glad they didn't. I heard he was asking for way too much money to reprise his role as a mascot. Which is ludicrous since everybody knows Rambi is the real star here. Enguarde is just a second stinger at best.

The audacity of this fish! SHAME!!!
