PS4 global sales update

Based on the sample size in Berlin. 5,000 people in line with only 1,200 PS4s. So PS4 will sell around 7.5 million before they can actually meet the demand. Only then you can walk into the store at any given moment and buy a PS4.

I'm not sure they will do 1m in Japan at release. Maybe half that. Consoles in general have been a diminishing market in Japan with handheld devices taking over.

I doubt it'll sell a million that fast in Japan, the Vita launched in Japan and couldn't even break a million in the first month. In fact, it sold 300k units in week one and dropped to less than 10 thousand units the following week. The 3DS didn't sell well till the price dropped over there.

Knack stand alone is at 99 in sales charts on Amazon UK,Mario 3D World is at 17 work it out and 3D world has been at 17/18/19 in the sales charts for the last week and a half,Knack was at like 169 last week,so stand alone versions in Uk it looks like 3D world is in much higher demand......

Yeah, I'm not sure about XBone's figures. I worked Black Friday in a certain store where we had 27 PS4's and 29 XBones. I worked Midnight-8am. By 3am we sold out of PS4's, and by the end of my shift (8am) we only sold 8 XBones.

I asked the manager on duty if we sold more throughout the day, and she said, "there's still about 7 or 8 left." and that was at 8pm.

there was a line forming, of about 15 individuals for the 12:00 am mystery deals at BEST BUY, everyone was hoping PS4s would show up, once the manager informed us that they would only have the BONE for sale, literally everyone left except for this one guy lol. Until last weekend ps4 only had one territory... currently it has only extended to Europe which pretty much puts them on par. Even if in Europe there were a couple extra countries ps4 released to, I don't know of any Sony is selling in currently where ms could hope for any significant impact...

Truthfully though I'd put xb1 closer to 1.6 or 1.7 mil myself unless it just bombed for Black Friday.

Mmheta, you know the same figure is listed for the ps4. Those figures are old. We shouldn't be comparing old numbers to the latest word from sony. All we know for sure is Sony's figures, not the Xbox one's.

I dont personally think the Xbox one is close to 2 million, and as demand is met between the two, i doubt the gap wouldn't widen. At the moment, all the latest figures for either console will be all about how many are manufactured and arrive in customers homes working. Defective units and manufacturing speed will be the only reasons one trails behind the other in these early months. So dont hold your breath when searching for which truly is dominating.

Come January we're all gonna see just how well either console will sell. My money is on ps4, no pun intended.

Terrific numbers! My sources tell me XB1 is at 1.4ish. Expect a big launch in Japan also. The gap is going to get large rather quickly! It's a cracking system, so intuitive, the UI functionality is just great, so easy to navigate...the share button and streaming features are just the muts nuts!

First thing I did was pair my nexus 7 to the ps4, started sending messages to friends on their ps3's!!!! then installed BF4 + apps. Can customize my chars from the tab, as well have larger mini map displayed. Just trying to reach rank 10 so I can unlock the commander mode and direct the battlefield :-D

Sony isn't going to reach that number in Japan. The PS3 hasn't even hit 10 million and its dirt cheap with a ton of games.

Realistically, I think the PS4 will do well more than 60 million. But I feel the generation will be shorter. only 5 to 6 years instead of 7 to 8 years

The Gamecube hardly sold anything in Japan i think it's Nintendo's lowest selling console in the region that's one reason to the PS2's high install base, that and simply more people in the region played consoles back then than they do now, most Japanese gamers have moved to handheld's have you seen the 3DS's sales in the region ?

The reason being most Japanese gamers tastes have changed considerably to the point in which they prefer the really niche, obscure, avant garde games that the big publishers aren't really producing anymore, most of which is found on handhelds more specifically the 3DS hence it's massive success in the region, this is also fuelled by the fact that due to the increasingly powerful work ethic that's present in the nation, the average adult gamer simply doesn't have the time to sit at home and invest 3-6 hours playing a game when they should spend that time working, with the 3DS and mobile and tablet's they can simply take this on the go when they commute to work, lunch break etc;

Really console gaming as whole dwindling in general in Japan, the PS2 really was the peak in that region, no other console is gonna do those numbers.

100 million console sold within 5 years looks like a lock for the PS4. PS4 will sell at a faster rate than both PS2 and Wii the two previous highest and fastest selling systems. PS1 managed to sell 105 million, between 1994 to 2006.

PS2 took 6 years to break 100 million. Wii took 7 years to break 100 million sales. PS1 took 8 or 9 years to break 100 million.

So I don't understand why there's so many ignorant commentors saying "oooh, beware of big bad Sony!" They are only living up to the spirit of competition that you whiners are constantly babbling about by giving us a great powerful console at a fair price.

Has anyone ever though that, just maybe, Microsoft needs to get in touch with what gamers want (a true gaming experience) and what gamers don't want (Kinect)? If Microsoft has a true sense of competition then they will do the right thing and adapt to what consumers REALLy want.

Exactly, this is what I was always harping about MS. They introduce bad gaming policies all the time, and the one that really gets me is timed exclusives like DR3, or 3rd party exclusives like Titanfall. As gamers and one console owners we are punished for MS's lack of first party support and are denied these games.

Having more competition is good unless one of them hinders bringing third party gaming to all consoles because of the lack of first party support. Just take the Sony, Sega, Nintendo days where each machine had their own identity and owning all systems meant different experiences not because you can get that game earlier on another system, it's just frustrating with MS being in gaming not enjoyable

Good numbers indeed. I could see XB1 at around 1.3-1.5 million by now. Its been in stock and folks are getting because there are no PS4 available.

Probably could have sold 3.5 million, demand is still very high but supplies are limited. I saw a guy pay $920 for one after someone got the last one at target. He bought it off him for twice the price including taxes.

i think when MS says they are spending money on gaming, thats what they mean. they buy exclusivity from developers that would normally release their games for every gamer, and make them exclusive to a select group. Thats why MS doesn't actually add anything to gaming. MS only adopts this policy because their ultimate target group is not gamers, its casuals. (as is evident from everything we have seen from them so far, be it the console announcement, or the sacrificing of gaming capabilities for the sake of TV and application features). MS only needs to pay for exclusivity during the begining years of each generation, later, when the install bases get larger, it becomes more and more expensive for them to buy exclusivity, by then though, they figure they would have already switched focus to casuals anyway, so they are not phased. Thus you have the same phenomenon as the last two generations when gamer support dwindled down years before the release of the next console.

All the Japanese devs are focusing on the PS4 as their prime platform, or even their only one. There are going to be Japan PS4 launch titles equivalent to the western launch.

So far, MS isn't announcing bleep about any Japan launch, actually leaving Japan off their next second tier of 8 countries, which aren't going to add any large amount to sales (Poland, Russia, etc). At this late stage, it looks like MS has no plans to launch in Japan at all.

Remember they tried to appeal to Japan with the 360? It didn't work. 360 was/is dead in Japan. Microsoft was claiming a lot of JRPGs to make the Japanese want the 360. I guess they're trying something different for the Xbox One.

Yeah, ummm, you need to get a clue about gaming & how it works, as it may be very beneficial to Titanfall's developers to stay exclusive, as Xbox fans will jump on it, in massive numbers, just like Halo sold a sh!tload, & made Xbox Original (lets call it Xbox0) sell more than it would have. One game basically built a decent fanbase for MS's console's.....So, with a new Halo, possibly a Gears, Forza & this new massively hyped title for XBOne, I don't think Titanfall will have a problem selling in a big way, remember, Xbox owners seem to buy these types of games in stupid numbers, & they ignore truly original gems like Oddworld Inhabants awesome games, & games like Chronicles of Riddick. They support these me-too shooters....So Call Of Mech's is almost insured of success on XBOne, as long as they stick to that COD formula that mindless sheep lap up.

The developers that are completely stupid for developing exclusively for XBOne are Insomniac, as they are probably gonna release a game that MAY be quite unique & awesome, (if they are on there A games), but the problem is, they have switched to a target market that they really don't supply ammo for....they flipped the bird at the loyal PS base they had, shoved some sh!t, to mediocre (at best) games out the door, & now they have cut there market down to NOTHING, as the people that would have given them another chance, have been ignored, whilst they try to upstart from scratch under a new regime, after the abysmal FUSE. Why would XBOne owners be even slightly hyped for a game, coming from a developer that churned out the END of generations HAZE. That's like PS fanboys saying wait for Free Radicals next exclusive, a few months after they squeezed HAZE out of there anus cheeks. RARE, Oddworld Inhabants, Starbreeze Studios, & others that were bought out, or went exclusive to MS, have traditional suffered, & either not been the same developers & churned out crap like PDZ & Kameo like Rare, or have just not been able to have there AAA+ games sell to the Xbox crowd. These unique developers that make games that are outside the box, & don't conform to traditional shooter standards, are the ones that are dumb asses for going exclusive to MS. They should either be multiplat, or PS & or Nintendo exclusive, because those to demographs are far more suited to buying unique games...Although PS owners have become COD, EA Sports, etc, buying mindless sheep as well, as proven with PS2's Okami, Ico, SOTC, BG&E, Psychonauts & others failing to sell...People need to pull there fingers from anus, & start buying games that exude FUN, rather than games that reward XP points & PERKS, as that sh!t gets boring real fast. I mean, shouldn't these shooters handicap players that live on the game, games like COD where player master & know every map inside & out, shouldn't the noobs be given the perks, so the LIFERS can really test there skills. Otherwise just put everyone on the same playing field..Get rid of all this dogs, shields, airstrikes, & just have a shooter that pits everyone man to man....Just like the superior old school shooters like Timesplitters, Doom, Quake, & Unreal for eg.

If only the PS4 was as easy to mass produce like a can of Coke, a bottle of milk or a loaf of bread, etc. Then it would sell millions more systems and help keep up with the high consumer demand. Missing out on all these sales may be costly as some parents may have to buy their spoiled brat kids a XBox One or Wii U for Xmas because they do not want to wait for a PS4.

Sony didnt ship anywhere near enough units to Australia our waiting list in most retailers has grown to march even in our major citys.

(mine is scheduled for December 24th arrival thankfully and i preorderd a week after the annoucement)
