did the PS3 OS have music before? it would be awesome if we could put our own music that would be sick this would be mine http://www.youtube.com/watc... do it Sony.

TrevorPhillips3831d ago

The start-up yes, but the OS nope. It's mad though :)

Wtf are they thinking with this no MP3s BS O.o
I wonder what they're gonna give as a reason or if it'll be enabled later. Does it/will it even play digital titles (videos) from an external HDD or USB anymore?

That's really annoying.

FriedGoat3830d ago (Edited 3830d ago )

How is me talking about an OS function off topic? Just because it's not in the article it's still relevant to the discussion. Sort your damn moderators out N4G. I lost a bubble for that?

RobbyGrob3830d ago

@familyguy MP3 is actually a very old and inefficient format now that indeed should be forgotten so people will adapt to the new, because you can get way better sound from way smaller files nowadays with other formats.

@familyguy

"Does it/will it even play digital titles (videos) from an external HDD or USB anymore? "

They announced that external hard drives won't work on our PS4's. Which is a bummer as I keep my 500GB WD external HD plugged into my PS3 just for playing back media (mp3s and movies). Hopefully there will be a patch later on, but I doubt it. Just seems like a business move to ensure we use services such as sony music unlimited etc...

Jamaicangmr3830d ago

@ FriedGoat

I know they stated that there wont be support for Music CD's however you could still upload your music MP3 via thumb drive or external HDD.

Where did you see that it wont support MP3 either?

zeee3830d ago (Edited 3830d ago )

I personally don't really care for mp3 support but I do want to use my Sony wireless stereo headset for chatting and what not. I guess for some it could be the other way around. I just hope they add the support for their official products as soon as possible. and I'm talking days or a few weeks and not months. Please Sony please... make it happen.

i'm guessing it's like the OS music on Vita. just a tune that plays while you're there... would be amazing if they allowed you an option to just fire up a Music Unlimited mood station in the background right when you turn it on as well...

LakerGamerEnthusiast3831d ago

JESUS CHRIST. That sounds heavenly. lol *__*

Xsilver3831d ago

are you referring to the song i posted

ZombieKiller3831d ago (Edited 3831d ago )

I like how you can adjust the safe zone in the console instead of individual game. I wish they added controller mapping to that list too. I'd like it to be a system feature to customize controls....and PLEASE Sony, don't leave it up to the devs for custom soundtracks for games. PLEASE! I want custom soundtracks on EVERY game I choose.
Ok edit: I wrote that before I read the full article.
Arkham City's free roam made me create a soundtrack for it. A Batman soundtrack. It fit perfectly and I was looking forward to that in Origins. Yet they took that feature out. Arrrggggg!!!

here's a video of it, this is brand new information, first I heard of this UI music.

PS3 just had the sound when you click through the interface (custom sounds with some themes), no music.

Aghashie3831d ago

the ps vita already have this option on the menu. u can turn on/off the os music for the home screen.

now, user custom music for the home screen? that I don't know. never tried on my vita.

This is a much better subject for a change no Xb 1 bashing just everything about the Ps4 now the launch is getting closer this is what I like to comment about the Ps4 great in it .

Spontogical3831d ago

Dayum, from a media perspective - the PS4 has less features than the PS3 :/

kwiksilver993830d ago

it does doesnt it.i can understand if they dont want to add anything new but to actually remove features that the ps3 could do???
i use the dlna functionalilty a lot and also plug in an external hdd to watch stuff.

i dont like this one bit.hope they can bring it back with a patch.and that they do:(

xtremeimport3830d ago

Shit, I want some of it to be a surprise when I take it out of the box. I dont really wanna know EVERYTHING about it.

kwiksilver993830d ago

just cover your ears and blindfold yourself for the next 2 weeks:)

The little details are what seem to make it. The idea of being able to adjust the short key for the share button to better suit yourself and having the safe zone adjusted in the OS to prevent the need to do it again when playing games.

JimmyLmao3831d ago (Edited 3831d ago )

here is what the music in the PS4's OS sounds like, for anyone who is curious.
http://youtu.be/oaVLdo9-hIY...

i think it sounds nice and relaxing =)

you have the option to toggle it on or off

LOL_WUT3831d ago

Wow sounds really good unlike the WiiU's background music which gets pretty loud. So the option to turn it off the PS4's OS music makes it all that makes better. ;)

assdan3831d ago

I wouldn't say this is amazing news by any means, but they're nice conveniences.

r213831d ago

Alright, thats how I like my UI, plenty of options available :D
