The release of the PS4 is approaching fast, and shops are starting to receive their promotional material to set up their aisles.

I picked up my first day 1 console, the 360 at a midnight launch at GameStop. It was a fun & memorable experience. Brought it home, stayed up all night.I'm doing it again with the PS4. GameStop said they may have cops there this time. Not a bad idea.

It's par for the course there. It's a major retail electronics store selling everything from computers to appliances to DVD's and CD's. Everything is metal gray and blue.

Best Buy itself isn't bad though. Prices are competitive. I wouldn't really call it thrift. Unless something is on sale, it is usually at MSRP, but you can haggle with them, although it's not something they advertise and depends on the manager. Sometimes I can find good old games in their clearance bin cheap, but not often.

There is a certain arrogance with the 'Greatness Awaits' tag line that doesn't sit well with me. The 'It only does everything' strap line was similarly bold and additonially inaccurate.

I'm sure that PS4 will be successful but I'm a bit put off by the arrogance the company is projecting with such a provocative message. It's almost Apple esque in its assumption that's it's the best thing since sliced bread.

I guess the pressure will be on Sony to walk the walk as their adverts are talking the talk. It will only bite them back if the console is not as amazing as they claim.

And for balance I don't think it is all in one as it doesn't play the huge existing back catalogue and no doubt will be limited to certain file types for video etc. Had they included an x360 SOC on the motherboard as was rumoured to be considered then it would have been very nearly all in one.

Well you are right one thing - my playstation will not arrive on launch day, because I'm not getting a PS4, I'm getting an X1, and seeing how Amazon states on their site that the console is guaranteed to be available on release day and my estimated delivery date is also Nov 22, (release day) I'm pretty confident. Even if it shows a day or so late, I still see it better than needing to go pick it up.
