Are Violent Video Games Really The Cause?

GearNuke: Fox News recently published an article written by a man named John S. Dickerson titled ”Grand Theft Auto V sales set record — why are we surprised when virtual violence becomes reality?”. The article in question proposes the argument that games like Grand Theft Auto V are the sole reason for all of the shootings and random acts of violence that have been going on in the United States of America as of late.

No, it's what they put in the water that does it. The Lizardmen are to blame, you wait until the truth comes out.

SmokingMonkey3867d ago

No, the problem is high powered machine guns in the hands of undertrained civilians gone nut's.

Videogames just helps with aiming.

Becuzisaid3867d ago

You're right cuz you really do aim weapons in real life with thumb sticks or PC mouses.

SilentNegotiator3867d ago (Edited 3867d ago )

"high powered machine guns"? lol, what are you talking about? Unless you're talking an incident with some cartel, there weren't machine guns involved.

Consumer grade AR-15s aren't automatic, just so you know. I know that other, equally garbage news networks have tried hard to make sure the masses are confused on that point, but they aren't fully-automatic machine guns.

Oh, and the latest shooting didn't involve a purchased AR-15, even though CNN tried to tell us that it did.

bad parenting is definitely part of it and it's also the media celebratizing these nutcases with book deals, movie of the week deals and motion picture deals.

Even though some people would like to ignore the issue so that they push their own legislation, it's mental health. Not guns, not games, not parents (adults aren't bound by adults and all of these shooters are adults).

All of the big shooters recently had expressed major signs of mental breakdown to authority figures and most of them reported to the police, who did nothing.

For example:
The Navy Shooter told the police that he heard voices.
The Colorado theater shooter's therapist reported him to the police.

Instead of seeing to it that they were subjected to mandatory 24 hours in a mental health facility for assessment, our "caring" men in blue decided to do nothing. Had they been deemed insane, they would have lost privilege to gun ownership and would have been treated.

They weren't stopped because no one took advantage of the laws that we already have.

I see your point but how much better would these adults acts in society if they had better upbringing? It starts with parenting.

I can't wait for 30 years from now when we look back at how ridiculous it is to blame video games for the violence. 30 to 50 years ago, it was comic books that caused violence, before that it was novels.

DoctorJones3867d ago

Films as well, I remember the stink that was kicked up over Childs Play. They always find something to blame. Always anything else except the simple fact that some people are just naturally sick individuals.

And 20 years ago it was hip hop.

More interested in money than giving fans what they want. Such a shame

CrimsonWing692d ago

With the amount of money they generated, I just don’t understand the scrubbing of this. It would’ve been fantastic for fans.

Profchaos2d ago

I really want to know who drove the decision to focus on multiplayer was it Rockstar or take two.

Because when online started taking off many of the studio leads began having falling outs and leading including a founder

Demetrius2d ago

Ikr mfs that greedy it's ridiculous

andy852d ago

This makes me sad. Trevor was one of my favourite characters in gaming

One of the reason I believe once gta 6 release, most of us thoroughly play it, enjoy the world they crafted then after that no offline support, no dlc at all
