Xbox One pricing paves way for Sony PS4 success

When Microsoft announced the price of its new console at a press event Monday there was an audible gasp from the audience of gamers and media. The US$499 price tag is higher than the $375 to $450 range that Ward predicted ahead of E3. Part of the reason for the premium is because the Xbox One comes prepackaged with a Kinect sensor. Sony's PlayStation 4 won't require the additional depth-sensing camera and microphone combination that Kinect offers.

The PS4 is going to get a large majority of the sales of people under the age of the early 20s just because its $100 cheaper.

I think it all goes back to the surprise Feb20 PS4 announcement, Sony showed off the camera, the move and DS4 with a light bar and gave the impression they will make the camera a mandatory bundle.

MS didn't expect Sony to cut the camera off and then reduce the price, they may have predicted the PS4 will have a $50 advantage at best not a full $100, that presents a big psychological gap for the consumer.

xbone is $50 more in my country then the ps4 "Australia" i doubt that is a valid reason.

Alright then if you don't care about the price then get the PS4 becuase it has better hardware.

Sony did a brilliant move being at $399, no doubt about it. What's interesting is Japan might not make it for 2013, which is odd considering Sony is from Japan.

.....Unless Launch PS4s suddenly develop the YLOD in the millions.

To be honest, I'm kind of worrying about overheating problems on the PS4. Where the heck are all the ventilation spots. I know it cant surely be all in the back of the console where the heat gets pushed out.

I'm being serious here. Have any of you thought about this?

For having the power of a mid-ranged PC this thing is in a pretty tiny box.

look at the middle space in between the Ps4 on the top and bottom, there are additional holes going straight across

These new consoles should run cooler than the previous generation , no need to worry.

After the RROD and the YLOD, I'm sure Sony and Microsoft wouldn't be to keen on letting that happen again. Sure look how much Sony have learned since the launch of the PS3. They have gone from arrogant fools to the 'saviors' of console gaming!

If anyone has a track record with faulty consoles and recalls that's microsoft.

Williamson3969d ago

I hope they just have one model at launch, keeps things simple for everyone.

Its not just the price, its the games that have been shown, also ones we dont know about from companys we've yet to hear from, also its a more open system that allows its users a bit more freedom over the products that they have bought, if microsoft drop the used game crap then im in, not bothered by the 24 hour checks, though I do understand the backlash, so far sony are doing a better job of getting my money, in my opinion.
