Xbox 360 Passes the Wii in the UK

The Xbox 360 has passed the Wii in total sales in the UK, according to VGChartz. The Xbox 360 became the number one bestselling home console for the seventh generation in the UK for the week ending March 30.

It was only a matter of time.

The Wii has been on a downward spiral for a few years now the 360/PS3's are flying off shelves since the price tags are kind of irresistible right now if you didn't have an HD console initially.

Publishers are still making games for the PS360. Nintendo literally carried the Wii on their own (barring a few 3rd party titles), and has since stoped developing games for that system.

Nintendo's at that point in the race where they're in a deep slumber (referencing the tortoise and the hare).

Grats to MS but I personally don't think Nintendo even cares about Wii sales anymore.

I'm confused. For a while now, I've heard many people say information from VGChartz wasnt accurate and couldn't be trusted. Are we back to trusting VGChartz now?

Agreed.

VGChartz sales numbers should not be trusted as they are rarely accurate, if ever.

Having said (wrote) that, Chart-Track (NPD of Europe or close enough) reported in January that the Xbox 360 is set to surpass the Wii in the UK.

It's possible that the Xbox 360 has finally surpassed the Wii in the U.K but I would wait for official numbers instead of trusting anything VGChartz claims.

Sorry to be that guy, but why the enthusiasm?

This doesn't have any bearing on us as gamers other than for the vocal minority to throw their e-penis around forums and website comment sections.

maniacmayhem4041d ago

It does have bearing on gamers since more than likely games made this happen.

Its good to see any console keep going in sales. It is our hobby and we would like to see it keep flourishing.

I would say it extends the online life of some games and gives the xbox uk fan base a wider variety of gamers to game with. It sux to see one of your top games dwindling with not enough gamers to fill up a match.

It does mean something, even tough the wii is almost forgotten by Nintendo it means that casual centered consoles were a fad and true "hardcore" consoles are the best.

OC_MurphysLaw4041d ago

I can't say I am surprised by this. But lets be a bit fair here. For Nintendo, the Wii is a dead platform so do they really care if a hardware device they are no longer supporting is finally passed by in sales?

And while definitely a feather in the hat for MS, I am pretty sure MS at this point isn't focused on Wii comparisons but rather they are far more interested in comparisons to what they deem their real competitor, Sony.

Not a headline I expected to read.. can't imagine Wii will overtake again.

Welshy4041d ago

Considering Nintendo have announced that Wii online services will be closed (they haven't named specific features) i shouldn't think so.

With the Wii U being the new focus i reckon the Wii has had it's day.

Lets see if the Xbox 360 can overtake the Virtual Boy sales in Japan next.
