Minecraft on PlayStation being considered, Wii U version “very unlikely”

Minecraft could be coming to PlayStation but is unlikely to arrive on Wii U, Mojang’s Jens Bergensten has revealed.

“Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles,” said Bergensten, who is lead designer of Minecraft Pocket Edition for iOS and Android. ”When it runs out we’ll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely.”

Hopefully MC is a cross-play, cross-buy title with VITA and PS3/PS4.

Chaostar4097d ago

It would be so good on Vita :D

Minecraft released on the 9th May 2012 on 360, which means if MS paid for a years exclusivity we could potentially see it on Playstation this summer.

Knight_Crawler4097d ago (Edited 4097d ago )

Alot of people hated on MS for making this deal but you would be surprise to see how man casuals bought a 360 just for MC.

Who would have even thought that MC would be a system seller...Dont be surprise to see MS throw more monaey at Mojang.

Edit @ Juju - Yes a MC PSvita would be awesome and would move Vitas...I amnot sure why Sony has not approached Notch with this.

SilentNegotiator4097d ago (Edited 4097d ago )

"you would be surprise to see how man casuals bought a 360 just for MC"

A grand total of no one?

Minecraft plays on basically any computer. And they actually keep up with updates on the PC.

Reverent4097d ago

Silent beat me to it. And besides, casual gamers are MUCH more likely to buy the pocket Minecraft for their phones rather than buy a brand new console for it...

dasbeer884096d ago

Nobody can trust Microsoft anymore. Watch in this upcoming E3 event,I'll be betting 3/4 of the "exclsive" content MS will be announcing will be timed crap which will come to the Sony and Nintendo platforms eventually.

Keep it ?? its a blocky mess in my eyes.

LOL_WUT4097d ago

Seems like someones upset over this news, that he had to post it twice. #Envy

Although i'm not too fond of Minecraft I still acknowledge the success it has found on PC and on the 360. So a game like this is always welcomed.

No Wii U version for Nintendo just paints a negative image on the company. ;)

MurDocINC4097d ago

Nintendo should team up and make MarioCraft.

Whymii4096d ago

As funny as that sounds, you're right. Being able to construct a world and inhabiting it with Nintendo's IP makes perfect sense. It also suits their whole ethos of asynchronous and constructive gameplay. Until then, animal crossing is as close as we get.

Now if we can just get Grand Theft Mario in production...

MrMister4096d ago

I think Iwata's milked the mario teet one too many times. What happened to the Nintendo that used to make new IP's all the time? Gone ever since Iwata became prez and milked the whole damn farm.

falcon794097d ago

A flippin Atari2600 with more RAM could handle this game get a grip ps4 can have it.

MysticStrummer4097d ago

It would have to be cross platform with PC for me to even consider it. That won't happen, so... definitely no deal.

Im getting this on vita if it does come out. Perfect time waster for on the go travels :D

OlgerO4097d ago

yeah minecraft would be perfect for a handheld

MariaHelFutura4097d ago

Alot of companies are just passing on the Wii U, not good for Nintendo.

b_one4097d ago

and they were shouting how much love they will give to devs :D

stragomccloud4097d ago

Well, it's their prerogative if they don't want to get their product out to as many people as possible.

stuna14097d ago (Edited 4097d ago )

3 Million or 155 Million! Which would you choose??

I'm not saying 155 million people are going to buy the game, but just on default it's guaranteed to sell more the Wii U fanbase combined.

stragomccloud4097d ago

Of their is chance for a profit you should take it. The Wii U market will still get better. Not releasing games especially ones that require such low specs does nothing but hurt relationships between software companies and hardware providers.

stuna14097d ago

I agree with you on that comment, but most developers don't think like that! Most look at things like a console has a strong showing, dollar signs sping up in their eyes and their all for showing support! But let people or the media start getting ansy about the product, and then you'll see developers starting to avoid it like the plague! Not all, but a fair amount.

Take PS3 for example, in the beginning it lacked major support, and look how people and the media regarded it, nothing more than a expensive blu ray player! I sony are the ones who should be commended for turning their fortune around, they still have a ways to go, but they have stayed the course even after massive loses.

Kevlar0094097d ago

A WiiU version would be pretty cool, gamepad is your inventory, use Miiverse to add things to other people's creations

F*** AI

"Hey Copilot, what's a good meme to prove I dislike AI".... https://giphy.com/clips/sou...

Einhander19722d ago

Two trillion dollar company that just can't wait to put as many people possible out of work as fast as possible.

It feels like every single thing they do is making gaming worse and destroying the industry.

....you know it takes people to program the AI.... right? It isnt like it is sentient. We haven't reach skynet level of situation or anywhere close to the matrix just yet.

That's next Thursday.

Einhander19721d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

It takes a people to program the AI then that AI is used for who knows how many games eliminating countless jobs which only grows as AI is used for more and more game creation functions.

What you're saying is so ridiculously short sighted and truly larking any kind of understanding and foresight.

Why all the hate? Im actually excited about this! Always wanted this kind of immersion, and an AI companion with me all the time helping me out knowing the status of my skills/inventory/progress and giving me tips on the best approach or how to craft something specific is game changing for the industry.

Hate all you want about AI, but this is just the start and I can see the potential already. You wont be complaining in the next 5-10 years about this, but rather complain if a game hasn’t implemented it.

MrDead2d ago

Yes we can't wait for the work of others to be used without the need to pay them so that MS can profit even more from the people they fire.

I_am_Batman2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

There is no chance I'd ever use something like this, especially if it's not part of the core game design, but a layer on top of it. It's way too much handholding. Many games already feel like busy work, because they don't let the player figure things out on their own. Having a real-time interactive guide defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place in my opinion.

If this were to become the standard like you predict, we'll see more and more video games get away with bad design, because people will just be used to ask for help from the AI companion anyway.

Number1TailzFan2d ago

Well Nintendo don't need this with some of their games these days, with invincible characters, items, easy bosses etc.. they do the hand holding built in

helicoptergirl2d ago

Takes "hand holding" in games to a whole new level.

1 major advantage to this will be launching it straight from SteamVR. You have to make a custom shortcut to get it working right now in VR.

This is good news. It will be much easier to get it installed on my devices without using workarounds.
