Fallout 4: what it can and can't learn from Skyrim

OXM - It doesn't take an evil genius to figure out that Fallout 4 is just over the horizon, given that "Three Dog" voice actor Erik Todd Dellums has tweeted about the return of his character - and following Skyrim's monstrous success, it's likely Bethesda will share ideas or even full-blown features between the franchises.

Root4107d ago

I hope they dont dumn it down and make it accessible.

I want them to keep a similar leveling system from F3, I loved how each level you were rewarded with a perk.

They better not get rid of wepons breaking and stuff like in Skyrim

Oh and unique weapons have to come back

Drabent4106d ago

Need to learn how to give weapons character from Demon souls.

pandaboy4106d ago

Fallout 4 needs to learn nothing from skyrim. It needs to learn from Wasteland 2.

Knight_Crawler4106d ago (Edited 4106d ago )

Fall Out 4 needs to learn that too many arrows to knees can get old quick.

Please do not reuse the same lines on every AI that you meet.

Summons754106d ago

Get rid of VATS. That completely broke Fallout 3 and made it stupidly easy. Highly enjoyed the game but it would have been so much better without VATS.

Otherwise: Adopt the "favorites" menu because always need hotkey. Keep the menus in general from skyrim but go back to a classic leveling system like Oblivion/Fallout 3. Get rid of perks every level, do some at the beginning of the game to define your character (like oblivion, fallout 3).

Also would it kill you to make a variety of hairstyles? You guys always have such terrible hairstyles and like 5 options.

Either way I'm interested in what they have up their sleeve for this game. Can't wait for the first gameplay footage

Root4106d ago (Edited 4106d ago )

No perks or VATS

Why kill off things which made Fallout 3 so great

I mean sure the VATS was probably made to over shadow how crap the gun game play was but it was fun as hell....seeing a leg come off or seeing that you've managed to blow someone's head off was great. When you levelled up enough and saved enough ammo you didn't really have to use it.

Although I suppose if they put in a better sneak system where we could take out enemies without VATs then it wouldn't be as bad. I want to see enemies on my radar before I alert them.....hated it in Skyrim. The only time it would show a red dot is when you've been seen or nearly detected.

Heisenburger4106d ago

Just. Don't. Use. Vats.

You can play it like a shooter while the rest of us play it like an rpg.

Summons754106d ago

ummmmm what does VATS have anything to do with rpg playing? It was a one shot kill every time I used it. It took all challenge out of the gameplay and made the game stupidly easy. Like Root said too it was just a mechanic thrown in to cover up a horrible gun system, it covers up a larger problem and hurts the game over all. Think how great and challenging the game would be without the pause time and space, insta kill, button. people cry about FF13's auto battle which has an actual purpose saying it's "push button to win" well, surprise, that's exactly what vats is.

Root4106d ago (Edited 4106d ago )

@Summons75

A one shot kill....sorry but you must of been a high level and had all your perks worked out to get the best ones to effect VATS.

It took me a while before I started getting one shot kills and even then it's because my luck was high to score criticals

MidnytRain4106d ago

Why? You didn't HAVE to use perks OR VATS.

KwietStorm_BLM4106d ago

Fallout is a RPG disguised as a FPS. The shooting mechanics are nowhere near what a natural shooter has. Removing VATS would not only try to turn it into a fullblown shooter, but it just wouldn't work well regardless.

bluetoto4106d ago

I'm inclined to think that's what Summons is trying to do, turn an rpg into a run and gun shooter. I've seen several people try and play FO3 like it was COD.

As it's been said, vats covers up the horrible shooting and removing it would only encourage fps heads to complain about the shooting and how you can't play it like COD even more.

Fallout 4's 'next gen' update is over 14 gigs, breaks modded saves, & doesn't change much at all

We were expecting problems with mod support, but there are a lot of other issues.

isarai10h ago

Wow what the actual hell 🤣🤣🤣

just_looken10h ago

This is why you get the GOG version on gog you can select the version of the game to download.

On pc fallout 4 fallout new vegas and skyrim are all broken on steam because they all got the same "next gen" update.

Skyrim dec 2023
https://www.pcgamer.com/sky...

Can not find new vegas but anyone that modded it knows the script extender there was also broken

Valkyrye8h ago

Not accidental, they want modders to stop modding their older games to force them to mod Shitfield.

just_looken7h ago

There doing the same on starfield with a mods store and blocking mods

There goal is like blizzard and what they did with fallout 76 you make mods they can sell and you become a slave.

On skyrim they have "trusted" mod devs now basically a badge that lets your mod on the store you get a crumb of the sale when someone buys it.

Inverno5h ago

lol to the disagrees, the last Skyrim update broke mods too. They've been trying to kill mods to monetize them in creation club for years, it's not a stretch that they purposely put out patches just to break free mods.

porkChop4h ago

The disagrees are from people who have common sense. They aren't trying to kill mods. Most mods for any game will break with a new update because they rely on files/code that have been changed. This isn't new. Even with Bethesda this would happen way before the creation club. Mod support is literally one of the things that got Bethesda to where they are, and they're one of the only devs that releases comprehensive mod tools for each of their games.

Chocoburger4h ago

Over 14 GBs and doesn't change much at all? What? Taking up that much drive space for a pathetic 'remastering' is shameful.

Par for Bethesda.

Aussiesummer3h ago

It's not a remaster, it's a next gen update.

badz1493h ago

LOL people are actually expecting massive improvements or something? From Bethesda?? the same people who released Skyrim multiple times and the all look like shit? THAT Bethesda? are people for real?

Profchaos2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

The ps5 version doesn't change a ton but from my small playtime it's enough to make me want to replay it just to have it running at 60.

A side note to this my PS4 version no longer boots after it's "update" so I guess that's what it feels like to own a Bethesda game on PC

Bethesda Looking Into PlayStation Plus Subscribers Not Being Able to Upgrade Fallout 4

Why would anyone downvote this? Don't be silly. This is great news. Thanks for sharing, darthv72.

MWeaver5899h ago

I think it's because the main question for many was whether or not the PlayStation Plus Collection version would support the upgrade. To me it seems obvious the PlayStation Plus Extra version would, though it is nice to see confirmation it will.

That said, Bethesda highlighting the PlayStation Plus Extra version low-key confirms they do not plan on upgrading the other version given to players. Naturally some people are pissed, as even the in-game phrasing says "free for all players."

VenomUK8h ago

@MWeaver589 Exactly this point, it was advertised as free for everyone.

VincentVanBro7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

It’s just a lame solution to the problem, even if it is a solution. The comment shouldn’t be downvoted though.

Christopher7h ago

I mean, it's at least something. It's 'good' news compared to the alternative. Not darth's fault even.

Also, I highly believe this will get fixed. PR nightmare if they don't since the PS store doesn't differentiate/have different text for those with or without the PS+/PS Collection version.

VenomUK26m ago

@Christopher wrote "Why would anyone downvote this? Don't be silly. This is great news."

Is this your first time here?! And when you question the downvotes you get downvoted - I don't make the rules but that's the rules!

Even though I claimed the PS Plus version, I still have my physical GOTY PS4 edition and was able to get my PS5 upgrade a little earlier today. Physical media FTW lol. Hopefully it won't be too long before the PS Plus owners also get to upgrade their copies.

JackBNimble8h ago

My digital version works just fine , what's your point?

raWfodog7h ago

My point is that even though I claimed the digital version via my PS+ Essential sub, I was still able to upgrade to the PS5 version using my PS4 GOTY physical version that I bought years ago. Otherwise I would have had to wait for the fix to be released, however long that will take. Isn’t that what the article was about?

JackBNimble2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

No, you claimed an upgrade that everyone with the physical or digital license can other then ps+ extra .
And what you hold is nothing more then a physical license.

And the article is talking about people with ps+extra who didn't own the game previously to it going on ps+ .

I bought the game years ago to ... digitally, my whole point was to your statement " physical media Ftw" . So what does physical have to do with anything?

blacktiger5h ago

I expect this and also no releasing on next ps console. Pretty simple. Please don't be suprise
