Most of my games were working yesterday, so I played Fallout 3 GOTY edition.

I made a point to save before earning any trophies (completing a mission for example), so I could carry on playing, then just reload the save when it was fixed.

The problem is though is that I know most games that had been patched for trophies required restarting a new game to "activate". Anybody else know if this will be true? If that is the case, how would other games that shipped with trophies installed to begin with work? as the GOTY edition of Fallout technically did.

I guess I'll find out when I finish work *fingers crossed*

Good luck Corrwin. It isn't as clear cut as the article make it seem. Just relaunching the game, quitting and then doing a resync may work most of the time but I can confirm it does not work in all cases.

There are other factors at work such as was any trophy sync for that game before the glitch? Were new trophies earned during the glitch? Is it a game with front loading trophies or trophies that were patched later? And so on. I don't know the details but from experience some trophies were restored and some were not.

Still, it's not a big deal all things considered.

Yeah, I think waiting and seeing is the best solution.

I think it may probably work, because Fallout 3 and the GOTY edition are two different editions on PS3 (the 360 GOTY version was just F3, then another disk to install all the DLC, like the PC).

The trophies were working before the glitch, and completing a quest on the trophy list didn't award a trophy during the glitch (which is why I saved before completing it).

I'm confident it should be ok, since the GOTY editon works like any other PS3 game that had trophies from the beginning.

I can play Heavy Rain but my game saves were corrupted :(

Bah

They fixed the issue and have issued advice all within a 24 hour period of time. It's nice to see that they were quick to helping their user base out and not pulling the "let them rot" mentality.

True that.

It was pretty chaotic on here yesterday though lol.
Who'd have thought a leap year glitch would cause so much trouble? The PS3 fans were pretty shocked at what was going on and the Xbox fans finally got a bone thrown in their direction.

Corrwin5182d ago

I still have trouble believing some idiot working on the internal timer though that treating every even year as a leap year was a good idea. It's very low level stuff which means s/he couldn't have been an idiot, but thought they'd probably get around to fixing it "soon".

It isn't difficult calculating a leap year, it's one of the first things you need to look out for as a possible exploit when working with dates.

sorceror1715182d ago

@Corrwin - It was lower-level than software. There's an ARM CPU in the PS3's front panel, and it has an onboard clock. There was a bug in that hardware that caused the trouble.

The Slims have a more recent stepping of that CPU where the bug was fixed, and so were not affected.

I'd bet that there'll be a fix to prevent this from ever happening again in the next firmware update.

Hopefully in before that fool, Bungie.

I'm glad Sony are doing all they can to repair the PR damage cause by yesterday's little...uh...hiccup. A free PSN game would absolve you in my heart completely if you're reading this, Sony employees. :)

Corrwin5182d ago

The damage for me was minimal, I don't know about everybody else, but most of my games still worked, I could use the internet and iplayer, play dvd's and bluray, listen to music.

Though if I've lost the potential to carry on getting trophies in fallout 3 because it would require starting a new game (I played and saved it last night), then I'll be annoyed.

A free cheap game, couple of £ worth of credit wouldn't be unappreciated, should SONY decide that's the way for damage control. But even if they don't I'm quite happy, PSN still provides better value for money than XBox Live Gold: Free.
