leila01 not sure where your from but here in Canada you will only save about $5 if you buy it at EBgames used there's only 2 places where I live that resells used games. your best bet is maybe Craigslist, Ebay or some other site to get it cheaper.

I know if I had a computer that runs it, I still wouldn't buy it. The $10 more they charge for the console versions is the usual cost for the console royalty. They are not charged that on the PC, so they shouldn't be trying to charge an extra $10. It's pure greed. It also might be a way to get some of the money back for having an extra PS3 team. While it's good that they do that, get it from the PS3 fans, not a third group.

I import alot of my games,(obviously because its way cheaper) but for some games the DLC is regionalised,(COD4) to the disc region. It just ends up being easier to buy locally... Easier? yes. Ripped Off? yes.

i absolutely agree, Games in Australia for Example cost HEAPS more then in most other regions. When the AUS dollar was almost equal to the US dollar, games cost Australian gamers twice the amount it did over in the US. EB games in Australia is the worst place to buy new releases, they always charge full price for them. I get my games of steam so there usually alot cheaper then getting them in the shops, and there are sometime special offers that you can get on steam as well.

One of the reason i don't own a console is because of the price of games on it, this is a terrible decision from Activision to increase the cost of their games......Maby its to gain some back from the pirates but chances are it'll prob cost them more then they will gain. Like some one said earlier expect Spores piracy numbers to get eclipsed...

One thing that I think is hurting the gaming industry on the pricing front is all of the smaller publishers and developers being gobbled up by companies such as Activision and EA. We're seeing a serious dwindling of competition (See the Sierra purchase), and that is most likely also a factor in driving prices up.

The exchange rate thing is excusable, although in this economic climate its the business end which should be clever with marketing and pricing.

I think there is another explanation to that price. Since it released, the first Modern Warfare didn't drop the price. Here in Europe, the game was at 70€ (regular price) but they released a version including the maps pack for 75€ and now there is only this version available.

But while games like Killzone 2, Dead Space, Mass Effect, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc... release in Platinum / Classic edition 6 months to 1 year later, games like Halo 3, GTA IV and COD Modern Warfare are still at full price (or decrease of very few) whereas they released more than a year ago.

I think it's because those games still make big sales and people keep buying it, and as with MW only the 75€ edition is available, it makes big profits for Activision. They are probably counting on that Modern Warfare popularity to release a more expensive game and make even more profits.

Another reason would be the regular price is higher than usual to compensate with the price of the Prestige Edition. Maybe NVG are quite costy and Activision lowered the Prestige edition price to be accessible to our wallet, but had to rise the regular price to not loose too much in terms of profit.

PC Gaming will never die. The whole "PC gaming is dying" clause has been around since the early 90's with the PS and N64. Half-Life 2 sold like 15+ million copies. There's 20,000,000 Steam accounts, 13,000,000 WoW accounts, COD4 sold a couple million copies on PC and the Sims franchise has sold over 100,000,000 copies.

But it goes to show you, even rampantly pirated games like Crysis, Spore, and Fallout 3 all sold millions of copies on PC. So PC is still a very popular platform.

I really don't think this will affect sales. Activision know MW 2 will be a big seller, so they raise the price by $10 to get $10 for doing nothing. I wrote a long review about this on amazon, although i doubt it will get approved since i am telling potential customers not to buy a product.

but still... the problem is not just this price hike, its what will follow after. This will be just the start. then all their games will be £50 RRP, then other publishers will think they can get away with it as well, so out of principal i am not buying.

buy it preowned or buy it a few weeks later or something, but don't buy it day one or with in the first week. At least when they look at the launch sales figures they will see some sort of drop off.

Tell friends, especially the causual players. I have a lot of friends who are casualy and don't know about the price. they all know me as a hardcore cod4 player, when they go on about how they are looking forward to cod6 i tell them i am not getting it. when they ask me why and i tell them how much it is, they are shocked and then a lot of them tell me they will wait as well.

there are enough great online player games out anyway to carry me over for a good few months if i don't get it. Between Halo odst, Uncharted 2, Forza 3 and shift. i got enough multiplayer right there till 2010. and thats not even taken into account SC conviction and all the other great games out.

Activision can keep their game.

If MW2 can charge $10 more, what is stopping FF,GTA,AC,ME & even 1st party software like GT,KZ,UC,Forza,halo&gears from doing the same? More likely than not, everyone will end up suffering.

While the boycott will most probably fail to knock MW2 off the top of sales charts, at least it will raise awareness and send a message to Activision that what they are doing is not ok. And (this is just my opinion) does MW2 differ enough from COD4 to deserve that amount of money?

what are you? some Activision aficionado? it doesn't matter if i buy their games or not, they're still grade-A butt holes who milk any successful series to the dirt. they don't cater to gamers, they support gimmicks and cheap novelty items with a side of generic mediocrity.

the only games activision has is the guitar hero series and the call of duty series. without them, they're nothing. they don't stress to actually make good games, they just want to throw out games that they know will sell millions despite how lame the game can be (Guitar hero smash hits?! come on now).

and i don't see how me not buying their games will change anything. the internet holds a very small faction of what the majority of what most people are going to do out side the internet, and thats buying it. as soon as those MW2 commercials air on tv, all the fans are going to open wide their buttcheeks and sprint to gamestop/wal-mart/wherever to get their yearly dose of the same ol' call of duty except this time at a higer price point. what justification do you see in that? you think thats a cool thing for actvision to do? they're so manipulative but you don't have a problem with that.

i would so love to see activision lose both the call of duty and guitar hero franchises to see how far they would get in the gaming industry.

With Activision being greedy with the COD franchise ane rasising the price of CODWOW and COD4 brand new because the game is popular. But making me pay almost 80 bux for a brand new copy of the game is not worth my time I'd rather play KillZone 2 or Halo 3 then waste 100 bux on a game.

Its not called milking.. its called taking advantage of hype and high demand in a weak economy and taking advantage. This sucks for us because we as customers also suffer from the economy. They can charge regular price and people would buy like mad. Respect the customer first. Im boycotting. Billion dollar Activision makes more money than any other studio so if anything they can give it to us for a lower price. Very greedy I must say.

This reminded me of the Guitar hero world tour debacle in Aus....They were planing to release guitar hero world tour in Aus for around the price of a Wii which was around $400 at that time. Then Rock band came and it was only $250. This cause Activison to significantly reduce its prices to compete with rockband...Shows you how a company can easily take advantage of a certain Demographic of people........

...i think it's good that gamers are recently making themselves heard and taking a stand against greedy devs. Gamers deserve some respect from devs, this relationship cannot one-sided where the publisher alone gets all the benefits.

To the guy who brought up the old "...it's because of PC piracy, they should stop making games for the PC." argument, yes they should, shouldn't they? But why are they still making it after all these years? Because it's still profitable, and you know green-eyed devs won't miss a chance to gain a few extra dough.

You know what they should really do? They should either stop making games for PC permanently or stop bringing up "piracy" at every damn argument.

I agree, but its usually not the developer that's at fault. They get payed weather the game succeeds or not(depending on if they're the ones publishing it or another company is). Most developers wouldn't mind making the game for multiplaforms. But Publishers like Activision and EA are the real problems, They force devs to pump out repeats of game year after year and the "sheep" consumers just keeps buying it year after year.

Sure there is a recession going on but that is no excuse. How about a few years ago when there wasn't one? and the economy was booming? Did prices of new games decrease? Not in AUS it didn't....

All i'm saying if no one complains and stand up against these companies, Newer Games will be less affordable in the future.....

Yes, this game will be wildly pirated because of this.

Gabe Newell, Valve's CEO said that the reason most people pirate games is because of a disservice on the publisher or developer's end of things. In this case, charging an extra $10 for no reason is a huge disservice. We don't even get the DLC map packs until like 3 months later (at least they're free).

So yeah. Activision is going to lose more money in sales then they'll generate for this.
