Left 4 Dead coming to PS3, ported by EA

The OPM, Official Playstation Magazine, has today revealed in its latest issue that Left 4 Dead will indeed be coming to Playstation3. It will be ported, once again, by EA. Quote:

"Valve's survival horror game Left 4 Dead is coming to PS3, but EA will be taking on development duties in-house."

The Orange Box PS3 has been one catastrophic port. For these past 8 months, PS3 gamers have repeatedly expressed their disgust and anger towards both EA and VALVE, asking for a fix. Even a petition started by Mike Seedon was published on this website: http://orangeboxpetition.com/

Will PS3 gamers do the same mistake twice? I do not think so.

I played the orange box on PS3 and it wasn't that bad. The load times were longer on Portal, but i only noticed that it was because there was a comparison between the PS3 and 360 version. The Half life games ran fine and I never tried the original Half Life 2 except the beginning and that ran fine.

Left 4 Dead is still a rental. The game looks like crap cause it's running on the old and obsolete Half Life 2 ep 1 engine.

The truth is the PS3 is making EA a buttload of money mainly because it's growing fast and bluerays are much more expensive than a dvd-9.

Look at The Orange Box. They took games that were known for running far too good and had their best developers working on them to make them challenging again. there is no assurance that L4D will run good on any system. i didn't buy the orange box....it didn't interest me.(yea, i know, it was a good value but i was never big on any of the games in orange box- i like the first half-life only)

I'm personally softening up to buying EA games just because I loved the madden 09 demo, and their recent half ass attempts to show PS3 owners they're trying. To me this game always looked sub-par. The recent footage does look better but still not enough to really interest me. It's just a 4 player co-op/online game to me but with zombies, it's not going to take me away from TF2. As for the job EA did with the Orange Box it really wasn't that bad as alot of people say it is. Sure TF2 have some glitches i would love to see fixed (crit rockets through thin floors) but other than that there's no real problems i ran into. Portal runs flawlessly which is why i brought it in the first place and HL2 is alright.

I didn't really like HL2 all that much so i haven't touched the episodes which is where i here the framerate chugs. But i can attest that Portal runs flawlessly and HL2 runs alright as well. Tf2 just need a few quick fixes and it would be perfect, the port wasn't that bad in my opinion.

I have a question to all of you. Do you even own The orange box for playstation 3 and if so can you tell me what problems you face because as far as I can tell I own the orange box for Ps3 There is no online problems the servers are always working none of the half life games have frame rate issues I should know I played all the games over 3 times there aren't a lot of glitches and as far as I can tell it's not this bad port that people keep saying all the dam time.

Yeah i pretty much agree with you. I think the media blew out the difference between Orange Box on the Ps3 and 360 a bit too much. If you look at metacritic OB on the Ps3 is at 89 (damn good). As for problems i myself faced it's really just a few exploited glitches in TF2. Crit rockets through the roof, sentry guns in places you shouldn't be able to reach and the "overtime" glitch. Besides that TF2 is damned good and the Orange Box in general. It's mostly just a bunch of minor differences that got projected to seem like severe differences.

I think the main problems were with Team Fortress 2, that game ws an abomination to play on the ps3. The lag was unbearable and there were glitches going on everywhere all the time. Had they worked on that a bit more it could've been a good port.

Anyway, even if this is true, I wouldn't really care if it came to the ps3 or not since it's not my type of game.

The load times are quite longer than I thought for one. I was only able to play Team Fortress 2 once in about 30 trys. The lag was so bad that I would literly see an enemy then start shooting and two seconds later he was standing in front of me blowing me away. that was my only problem with the game really. I think if they include an install like they do for alot of third party games it will fix the problem. I have played COD4, Madden and other games online alot and never had any problems with bad lag like TF2.

When Bioshock used to be a 360 exclusive, fanboys were screaming about how amazing it was. Right after it was announced to be coming to the PS3, it was just a mediocre shooter with no replay value. 360 fans used to be excited for left 4 dead. I own all two next gen consoles, and a wii LOL but i am not buying this game for my PS3, I like stuff that uses the ps3's full potential not some port they will probally scratch their asses, eat boogers and pick their noses on. Their madden games suck, 2k was always better, fighting games horrible, reason why Marvel took back their license, they just suck and realize take 2, is way better i hope this company goes under.. and quick.

Orange Box on PS3 isn't AS GOOD as the 360 version, but it's still a fantastic game, and I'm more than glad that I got a chance to own it on PS3.

Sure, the sky walking hacks in TF2 are a bit silly (I've only seen it once), but the game feels great otherwise. Didn't have a single problem in HL2 or Portal for that matter, although I haven't played Ep 1 or Ep 2 which reportedly have some of the worse issues.

If Left for Dead turns out to be a good game, I'll grab it for sure on PS3. Even if EA has improved 0% in their PS3 dev, which is extremely unlikely, it will still be playable and more than worthwhile.

For the record, I think that EA's efforts porting TOB are extremely disappointing and their refusal to release patches is just lazy and deplorable. Screw them.

Trouble is, I just don't care enough to let it keep me from enjoying a quality game.

It was inevitable. Looks at EA's PS3 sales dollars. While Valve may be intimidated by the architecture, EA isn't. With Burnout, Dead Space and Madden 09 (60fps) proving they have improved their PS3 programming, I expect L4D to be solid. However, I'm also a realist and won't be shocked if it plays like Team Fortress 2 (the only Orange Box game that is "broken" in my opinion).

i bought the OB and Team Fortress wasnt working online for weeks so i traded it in....I tried to play Half Life 1 and that game was total SH!T. The newest HL was good but when compared to COD or any new FPS it looked dated and the gameplay was run of the mill

how many of you have played the madden 09 demo. for some reason the game just dont look right. they gave it a more cinematic look an feel but the graphics seems to have taken a hit. is it just because its a demo or did EA have to graphically gimp the game in order to get the PS3 version equal(60fps) with the 360. was the PS3 the lead console this time, they never stated which console was lead. its missing alot of the small graphical detail that the 08 madden had. maybe its just the watered down demo!! never mind!!

I dunno; I think the difference is you're talking about The PS3 getting Left 4 Dead, a game that will likely be good, but seems to be up against not only Resistance 2, but Gears 2 in terms of release dates if I'm not mistaken (the main reason I suspect it went multiplat), or FFXIII, a game that will likely be great, and was supposed to be released the same day as the PS3 version, but not it is revealed that it will be received by the 360 around the same time Hal-9000 is supposed to be reactivated.
