Truthfully with how much more efficient the newer RDNA tech is over the GCN that powered this gen, the gap in power is bigger than the number suggested by a decent margin. Rumors suggest a Lockhart Xbox at 4tf RDNA matching a 6tf one x, so Sony having 9.2tf RDNA could realistically be closer to 7x the base ps4, somewhere around 13/14tf GCN equivalent. Regardless of which box you support, Series X and PS5 are gonna be extremely capable machines that put out some incredible games.
I thought all they said was that Microsoft wouldn't be making exclusives the first year, did they say third parties arent allowed to make next gen only titles? Are they even allowed to make that decision for third parties?
I've been more worried about what kind of performance people will see on the current systems with these new boxes being build with nvme in mind. Theres already games showing legitimate loading and asset streaming issues on the ps4 pro and one x. Could create current gen ports that are borderline unplayable as we shift focus to the new gen
You're absolutely correct about some games having terrible performance on consoles this gen, but Days Gone isn't the best choice to demonstrate it in relation to this article. The frame issues you're bringing up are due to asset streaming off the slow hard drives in these consoles.
@TheColbertinator
Only set, but it works fine on every other game I've played. Gonna borrow a friends and see if the problem persists.
I'm dealing with a strange audio issue where the game sound is broken up through my headphones, but plays fine through any other speakers. All other sounds are fine through the headphones though. Other than that, game is incredible. Pulling off 4k 60fps on a 2080 with everything set to ultra. Havent noticed frame issues so far, but if so I'll just drop res a bit.
Havent gamed on pc for years, since right around the xb1 launch. But decided to grab a decent rig a few months ago and couldn't possibly go back unless absolutely necessary. Only 16GB DDR4 paired with a RTX 2080, still enough to blow my One X out of the water in every game I've tested. Gears 4 at 4K ultra settings with 60fps was breathtaking. Needless to say, my PC is ready
Honestly I'd like to see Nintendo further their collaboration with Microsoft and allow the Switch to become xCloud enabled. Maybe just not allow titles that are already available for switch. Would counter the streaming as a threat theory, and give switch owners the op5to play more advanced games that arent available on the console natively.
8k was mentioned as a supported resolution, that really only means it can output a 8k signal which can be done by any device using modern hdmi connections. I'd bet it targets and achieves 4k 60fps and also supports 8k video output for those videophiles that can use it. But gaming in 8k is still a ways off for PCs, it wont hit consoles to at the earliest the ps6, and honestly it probably never should
Although the article brings up some valid points about changes it artistic vision and the problem with "Verticle slice demos" I find it interesting the the main cause for downgrades is completely ignored. Video games today are developed on computers or special built dev kits that are typically vastly superior to the console they end up on, this often results in the dev's previewing a project with a target performance that in actuality isn't possible on the final hardware wit...
I like the no screen idea myself, being an owner of a larger phone it would pose no problem for me. I actually think they could make the unit itself relatively small. Lacking a disc drive and a true hdd would take a good chunk of size off of it, and truthfully the chipset the ps4 was built on is old enough that making it fit in a screenless handheld shouldn't be a technological issue in 2018.
@nodoze
Pspgo was hardware ahead of its time. Digital purchase rates were very low at the time and Sony had failedto deliver a truly meaningful reason to purchase a standard PSP let alone an all digital version. A ps4 go would have a massive library of amazing games already, many of which we already own digitally either via initial purchase or ps plus. If done properly it could also double as a controller for your home system, or if you were out at a friends. If Sony were smart th...
A completely digital, portable ps4 would sell absurdly well. PS4Go if you will. Honestly they could save money by releasing it without a screen and instead using mirrorcast and a companion app to utilize existing tvs/ mobile devices as the display. I'd buy one no question.
Interesting choices there. Firstly, I own both games and have since day one. Got the Horizon Platinum trophy, haven't actually played bloodborne though. I also own Ratchet, Crash and Shadow of the holidays. I buy maybe 50ish games a year and don't discriminate based on whether or not an IP is new or already established.
That said tho, you chose two games that are known in the industry as low risk projects. Bloodborne is essentially another Dark Souls game and both ...
Simple, people stopped buying new IPs and now no one is willing to invest in them
Wonder if it's counting future dlc
Anyone else surprised Sony didn't upgrade the ps4 and ps4 pro with a uhd blu ray drive to take away that advantage from microsoft. Theyre obviously not that expensive being they are in the one s and one x with no impact on price.
Not trying to compare which system is better here, but their cpu is near identical in design with the Xb1 actually having better performance. Fact remains that their cpus are barely steps up from the 360 powerpc 3core and the ps3s Cell. I've actually seen benchmarks that suggest the Cell is superior to the ps4 cpu.
Some people forget that even though console generations tend to come with a graphics increase, they are defined by leaps in CPU tech. 8bit, 16bit ect ect. To be honest, it could be argued that ps4 and xb1 are barely even 8th gen due to the fact that in some regards their cpu's still struggle to outperform those found in the 360 and ps3.
What if Kratos spends the entire series of God of War wiping out all the gods from all the mythologies, then when he's the only one left he leaves behind ten commandments for man to follow and just vanishes....
