Honestly JeffGunz, some of the footage isn't exactly promising. I am not saying this is the worst game ever or anything silly like that, it just looks a bit unfinished and a little bit uninspiring.
That's because since then, everyone who worked to create that magic, has moved on.
I found the combat in DAI to be overly dull though. Even on the harder difficulties. It feels detached and unexciting.
The thing is, the enemy AI looks dreadful as well. Just standing around waiting to be shot or running around aimlessly. It just seems they haven't paid any attention to it. People may berate me for bringing this up, but after playing Horizon, it really opened my eyes to how enriching challenging and smart AI can be. In fact,I would say it is one of the pillars of excellent combat. If the AI sucks, what's the point?
I have to say, after watching quite a few videos, it looks pretty uninspiring. And a pretty broken. Like it needs about 6 months for polish.
It's because Bioware isn't Bioware anymore and it seems they have bled a lot of their artisans over the last 5 or so years. This feels like a game aping mass effect as opposed to being Mass Effect. I am not keen on the new alien designs either, Bland. Slightly Avatar. Slightly Twi'lek.
And the faces of lowly npc's. Oh dear.
I am looking forward to what Sucker Punch does next, as say what you want about Second Son, but that game is still very pretty.
And bad hair.
You should watch his interview with Dave Rubin if you haven't.
Finally, he is free of the joke that is Greg Miller.
I stayed up until 7am to finish it last night. Worth it, but now I am filled with sadness.
Without any spoilers, I think it has the strongest back half of any game I have ever played.
It is a masterwork.
Do you mean Beyond Good and Evil?
Gr8 B8 M8.
The shock rounds in the rattler tear through human enemies in such a satisfying way. I like the tearblaster as well. Knock a human down and then critical hit. I finished the game last night. The story is remarkably excellent.
It also suffers from everyone wanting to tell you their life stories in the most extreme way I have encountered in a game. And the combat is just at the low rung of serviceable. I waited a long time for this and honestly I am struggling through. If the combat was as smart as the narrative this could have been a gem, but it is dull, and really lacks the depth I have come to expect from a game of this type.
And they all fell into the uncanny valley.
I honestly think that at this point bad character models is also a staple of modern Bioware games (starting with DA:O). It is like they cannot transfer their character artist's visions in to a game properly. And I expect that they neglect certain areas to focus on others. It's made more jarring here by the fact that the environments look even better than they did in Inquisition yet the character models haven't really progressed. And the animations in conversations are still janky ...
Indeed. This isn't the same Bioware of even 5 years ago. Let alone 10.
Simple. They wrote themselves into a hole they couldn't escape from unless they did something drastic.
'The first 3 hours of the original Mass Effect were pretty dreadful too'
-_-
I know that's your 'opinion' and everything, but no. Just no.
