I think there are some really ballsy recommendations here, and as bold a move as they might have been for the Bioshock series, it'd definitely be worth a try.
When playing through Bioshock 2, I didn't feel that empowerment that you would normally think of as a Big Daddy, but at the same time I didn't really notice or care too much. The first game was successful without that element, so I just kind of saw it that way. However, the idea that splicers would run away from you, or that you...
eddieinzauto: The only guy who could legitimately pull off the phrase "banal, interstitial combat".
It's just great when devs release this crap that nobody knows what its about but obviously gets everyone pumped about, well, something. Something in the sea was another good example. Way to go, marketing departments.
A hearty list with some solid points about march, but pretty much nothing to say about feb. Oh, well, that's because Bioshock 2 was pretty much it.
Whether or not this ends up being anything actually incriminating, which it very well may be, I think the damage is done. Now that the active gaming community has even some sniff about it, those reputations are just ruined.
I think its a solid point that KZ2 has better graphics than a ton of other games, especially those on a system without blu-ray capabilities, but is it really something that's worth talking about? Yes, Reach isn't out, and the character they used wasn't "related" to the game. But who cares really? There are sooooo many more elements to a game than just graphics, that while it may be really sweet to see a game like KZ2 that is just beautiful beyond belief and sets a new standard for ...
I'm just waitin on them review to come a'rolling in with the comparisons. Obviously DICE has a good chance here, and a solid, supportive fan base already (3+ million demo downloads as well), but we will see...
I think the point that was made about it generally being significantly more acceptable in the U.S. to have violence over sex in a video game can't be overstated. Though there may be some great arguments on both sides, what good are those if the truth of the matter for the overwhelming majority of people lies in one camp?
Haha, this interview was written in a way that only Jason can. "TAKE THAT!"
Dude, sick article. After having played through Bioshock 2, I actually thought to myself, "Hmm so all those reviews were right, about Bioshock not needing a sequel." (Though I did enjoy Bioshock 2) It was the massive change in the direction of the story, where it wasn't all going to culminate with some ridiculous, mind-blowing twist.
However, after reading your article, I feel like my view on that has kind of changed more so to agree with what you're saying. I remember ...
Japan's just never been to Ancient Greece, it doesn't know what Kratos is all about.
I'm personally on the side of Andrew Ryan as well, partially because the voice acting for Ryan was so incredible, but also because he was ultimately willing to die just to prove a point. To me, that scene was one of the more powerful scenes I've witnessed in a video game in a longggggggg time.
Personally, I find the gameplay of the roguelike genre to be kind of a chore in a lot of ways. While Shiren was solid in its dungeon crawling aspects, I just feel like its not that appealing of an approach to gaming to begin with.
I think the thing that didn't necessarily ruin Bioshock 2 but really detracted from it was the fact that after playing the first game, I was absolutely expecting just some kind of other, new, mind-blowing plot twist. There were tons of moments throughout the game that were really original and cool in their own way, and I really did enjoy the story, but I feel like I just psyched myself out for it a little too much. I watched an interview a while back with 2K Marin where one of the directors w...
I feel like one loading screen is no reason for a news post...
Enough Mass Effect 2 reviews already. ITS A GREAT GAME - THE END.
Yea man, that happened to me the first time I played it, which was consequently like 3 hours after the midnight release. However, I will say that I really enjoyed the multiplayer up until it froze, unlike a lot of people who have written about the multiplayer as a lame "add-on" function to the game.
I feel like Ubisoft just needs a new project. They are doing so much based on the success of previous iterations of games, they are really growing their customer base in the way that they could be.
Dude, how could you possibly argue in favor of less boobs.
Just shameful, Jason. Shameful.
Maybe it's just a small detail, but I was taken out of the game by the screens they showed between levels. Instead of showing quotes from Rapturians like in the first game (my fav "leaking walls and bleeding ghost, aint life in rapture grand?"), they gave you tips on what button to push and how to play the game more effectively. Hey 2K Marin, NO.
