Actually, production costs for the PS3 are dropping far faster than the 360 and while M$ is making 'profit' on the 360's sold now, it is profit to counter the $1 Billion spent on the RROD issue, so can you really count it as profit? IMO, Sony can drop a price to match any price M$ drops to at this point. Neither will be huge because the profit margin on both consoles is so small.
It is FAR too soon to tell at this point. The end of this year will be more of an indication if it helped as much as they hoped, but really the end of '09 we will see if it was the right choice.

Madden 08 = Madden 07 w/ updated lineups. Biggest disappointment of the year IMO. I'm never buying an EA game again.

I own a PS3 and 360 as well and I play my PS3 more. How can you not own Uncharted? It's the best game I've seen graphically and IMO the gameplay is very addicting.
In all honesty I think you play more on whichever system you get the multiplats on. I have COD4, AC, and Oblivion all on the PS3, which if I got them on the 360 the time split between the two would be about the same. When it comes down to it it depends on what type of games you like. Sports games, shooters, WRPG...
PS3 is over 9 Mil, where did you come up w/ 8.65? .65? And it sold that well with 'no games' and an 'unproven format' (blu) with stiff competition w/ the highest price point. How can sales not increase w/ proven system sellers announced, a unified HD format, and production costs cut so that they will be able to produce them for profit end of Q1 this year allowing them the ability to match any M$ price cut?
There have not been 18 Mil 360's sold. It is around 17 Mil, so if 1.5 Mil were sold in 2005, that means they sold 7.5 in 2006 and 8 Mil in 2007. So if they sold 8 Mil more they would be at 25, right where I said they would be. Where you get 8-10 Mil/ year is beyond me.
A price cut from M$ would mean a price cut from $ony. To think either company wouldn't match a price cut is ... well, it's simple economics.

Same reason everyone knew Halo would sell systems, these are tried and true franchises w/ proven records to sell not only the game, but systems. No one expected the 2007 lineup to sell systems if MGS, GT, or FF wasn't released.
Read the interview w/ Mark Reign, they are concentrating on UT3 right now. I would honestly be surprised if it is released this year. If it is though, there could be a surge in 360 sales. However, there were surges this year as well like Halo 3, however, they were still unable to match last years numbers w/ it's #1 app being released. I would be worried about that if I was M$.

Congrats, you own every good game on the 360 and some bad ones (I own a bunch of those too...). It's no wonder they have an attach rate of 7. 2 come w/ it and they have 4 excellent games + 1 game each person just 'likes'.
Question though. You got the 360, was it the elite? If it was the premium, you already spent more $$$ on that then the high end PS3. Wireless + Live = $150 + premium = $600, but I can play Hi Def movies as well as top notch games.

Those fire sales selling the machines at sub $200 levels were all sold below cost. Yes they lost money on every one of those sold, yet disc sales were unaffected by this due to the PS3's blu-ray effect. They are basically giving them away and can't even get back to 60/40 disc sales. Now at 85/15, there is no chance they come back.
There are 8 PS3 owners that a) won the format war for the consortium and b) don't have to worry about this. These people who bought a player that isn't a PS3 are in the minority and 'most' BD owners will have nothing to worry about.
