IGN:Yakuza: Dead Souls Review

IGN:If you've played a Yakuza game before, you'll know them as sprawling urban RPGs centred on the tensions and rivalries between different factions of the Japanese mafia, featuring plenty of beat-downs, kerb-stomping and bashing people over the head with tables. Yakuza Dead Souls is… kinda like that, but also with zombies. As a way to end the series in spectacular style, SEGA has unleashed the undead apocalypse on its fictional version of Tokyo, turning the game into a zombie shooter rather than a brawler in the process.

I wish Sega would allow Yu Suzuki to create Shenmue 3.The Yakuza franchise just doesn't catch my attention.

If you don't try to play them, it's not what you think. They didn't catch my attention either but then I bought the third one because it was cheap and now I'm a huge fan.

How does the amount of hours equal a higher lasting appeal? well if the gameplay was actually good with 20+ hours then it would be a 8+.

If you played it and you thought it was bad, Would you play that 20+ hours of gameplay? I know I wouldn't.

No, but say I was reviewing it I would put consistency in my review.the Lasting appeal Should be based on how much content is in the game, not how much content the reviewer wants to play. There is 20+ content to appeal to those who like the game and the score for lasting appeal should reflect that, not the lasting appeal for some one who didn't like the game.

Lasting appeal has got more to do with wanting to play the game over and over rather than how much boring content they could shove in there.

Well, what do you expect when the person reviewing the game doesn't even realize that the game is a spinoff and the tone was not to be taken seriously. Yes, I've heard the game has it's problems but don't write a review treating the game as though it's the same entry into the series as a numbered Yakuza game. It seems as though the reviewer gets it wrong on a few occasions, especially lasting appeal which all Yakuza games have countless mini games , side quests and features that you can complete all the way through the game and into the post game. Seems as though IGN told her to review the game harshly and she didn't even do well picking it apart. I'm not saying that this game is good and have not played it but I'm thinking that it will be enjoyable mindless fun and will probably fall between a 6.5-7.5 for me when I pick it up for a cheaper price.

I will probably still get this game, I love the Yakuza series, but the points made here seem valid and its unfortunate that the game could be hampered by the most basic of gameplay mechanics. Still I'll wait for more reviews to see what others think about it, this review hurts for any Yakuza fan, even if its just someone's opinion.

I played the demo of the game, sure it looks dated but it's far from a 5. I don't even care if it got even lower as I'l buy it day one, but there's some people who listen to reviewers and they will pass up on this great game because of it, kinda sad really.
