The ill-fated Evolution Studios produced this ill-fated PlayStation 4 exclusive racer, and to say it's had a rough time of it would be an understatement. Its time on the road has almost come to an end, as Sony has now delisted the title from the PlayStation Store.
Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.
you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.
Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?
Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.
Driveclub was a headline game at the start of the PS4’s life. A fabulous game – eventually - but what now, with the servers turned off? Is it worth your time? JDR starts its engines in today’s Brutal Backlog.
Bikes expansion might be one of the most underrated games of last gen. Incredible driver and bike animations + DC weather is craze.
Cultured Vultures: We won't stop until everyone appreciates how brilliant Driveclub is/was.
i went to the article and theres only a couple racing games, cant find the button to move page on through all the adverts.
Dirt rally doesn't even make the list? Errm OK then.
Driveclub is over rated as well, with middle of the road handling and the 30fps killed it upon arrival for me.
Sad day for sure. I always wanted to see a PS4 Pro Patch and Driveclub 2 on PS5 running at 60fps.
It's a damn shame. A great developer that could have been scolded but given some counseling on improving their skills in online coding. Everyone knows they can make a fun racing game even before being purchased by Sony. And under Sony, they showed skills Polyphony could learn.
Or they could have collaborated on making GT a mega racer with weather effects, car models to specification, build tracks, etc so that GT has a broad selection of content in a shorter time since it takes much longer to build these things.
But no more Motorstorm. No Driveclub, no mud, no maniacs, etc. Sure the license thing is done. But a pitiful end to a great developer and franchises. I have both standard and VR games. But you done F'ed up Sony. A terrible mistake now now being swept under the rug.
I remember when it was being touted as a forza killer, but the only thing it ended up killing was the studio that made it. I wish it would have been a new Motorstorm instead. The Motostorm games were awesome
its a shame what happened to the devs, was rooting for them, made one of the best arcade racers since pgr 4, seemed popular though, estimated over 10 and a half million played the game, always confused me to be honest.
DC is a great game. If memory serves... I think Sony killed it early on by announcing it would be a F2P PS4 launch title only to delay it time and time again and announce it was going to be retail instead. By the time it released the interest was no longer there and many didn't like it was now a full priced retail title instead of F2P. Obviously the reviews didn't help either.
Eventually I bought it on sale years ago and imo it's a phenomenal game that also had a TON of content. Got the Platinum Trophy when I initially bought it and every couple years I come back to play it for a couple nights or week. Not a big racing gamer anymore otherwise I'd surely play it a lot more. Matter of fact my Pro just took a shit a few weeks ago and one of the first games I downloaded was Driveclub because I wanted to play it. I'd say this is the most appreciated yet underappreciated racing game ever. Now with the servers also shutting down next year I guess it's time to find a new racing game. Truly a dam shame they didn't give Evo another chance and move them onto developing a sequel. Also a dam shame they're closing servers but surely there's just too few people playing so it's not worth the finances to keep the servers up. Which is the sad part of games that require online connectivity.
