Sony is shutting down online servers for SingStar and Driveclub in early 2020.
Extremely disappointing how Sony has treated one of its best exclusives this generation. Love Driveclub. Such a shame it never received the love, attention and respect it deserved from Sony, post-launch.
What is it that you want Sony to do with it exactly post launch?
@Brave_Losers_Unite A PS4 Pro patch would be nice. Same goes to Bloodborne.
@Obsucre the team was on the way to being closed and barely finished driveclub vr. A ps4 pro patch was asking to much
That reminds me, i need to get the motorcycle expansion before it gets removed. I already got all the free dlc but that one is paid and I forgot about it. DC is such a well made game. I'm so surprised Sony would let the devs slip right through their fingers. Motorstorm deserved a PS4 follow-up.
Bikes, along with the two or three paid DLC's got removed in August. Even though the DLC was cars, they had to put it under bikes because of trophy amount requirements. Can only get Bikes by buying a physical copy.
Physical copies may be worth something someday 🙆
Ya Driveclub turned out to be so dang amazing. Bummer this won't continue online. But SP lives on!
What? It was broken on launch delayed an entire year had one of the best season passes ever new tracks new cars added streetbikes but it never received the love post launch?
I think he means that the gaming press and community in general didn't show it any love post launch. I mean, you see broken games that people rave about how it's awesome they got fixed and get lots of articles about it, but you didn't really see that with DC, despite the launch issues being only trivial annoyance to one aspect of game play which offered up challenges to the player....and I guess online racing. Took like a month to fix, but the game was doomed to be neglected due to the console wars, and people moving on, and ultimately, was probably a big reason that Sony closed the studio, because they were having financial difficulties at the time, and had to make decisions based on sales.
I thought SingStar was one of their more successful franchises. I know during the PS3 days it was pretty popular. No one around here ever talked about it, but I know a lot of people who I wouldn't classify as gamers who were into it. DCVR is amazing. Removes my biggest complaint about driving games, which is that 2D makes it hard to tell where you are in the corners to know when to turn. With VR, I can drive like I would a real car....assuming I actually drove that fast, and staying in lanes, and actually racing is so much more fun. Makes me wish that GT:S had a full on VR mode for every race mode. I'd take the graphics hit to be able to race more than one car, on a mode that gives practically no progression. Bikes is also fantastic.
everyone can make mistakes and definitely Sony made one by letting to die Driveclub, if you didn't know is still best looking racing game out-there , not only looks heavenly stunning but plays awesome as well, not sure how hard affected Sony to take such decision but for what we know is a very bad decision taken.
No, Horizon 4, and Forza Motorsport 7 absolutely look better than Drive Club. They are also Xbox One X enhanced and run in 4K.
I play all 3, driveclub still looks better, from cars to graphical effects, understandable because horizon 4 is open world, as for forza 7, while it looks good, it still dont top driveclub, neither does gt sport for that matter, or project cars, or need for speed.
As someone that still plays driveclub, forza horizon 4 is leaps above all. Free roaming with that fidelity or 60fps? Sweet jesus
DC both looks better, and drives better than either version of Forza. Forza has better competitor driver AI though. I really love FH4, but I still think that DC looks and plays better.
Please explain how sony let it die. They gave them an entire extra year to fix still promoted it even though the launch was broken had tons of content and still has lasted almost the entire gen. It's obvious you dont even play it online because even the ps plus version tracks barely can get more than 4 or 5 people let alone the full game. You act like thousands are still getting online everyday and sony just doesnt care
Last time I played was a few months ago and couldn't fine other players online . I was playing sp because no one else was there.
it wasn't really Sony the game receive a lot of post launch content. Driveclub got crucify for not being forza horizon.
I can only agree with Yi-Long and masterfox...Sony just made a HUGE blunder with no doubt.
Don't really care about SingStar but alot of people liked Driveclub.
I'd say a lot of people like SingStar as well. It was one of Sony's top selling games last gen. Plus, it had tons of content DLC/MT. It was a GaaS game, and was quite popular among the casuals. Basically just a karaoke game, which was fun at parties....for better or worse depending on your thoughts about karaoke at parties. I guess the game has fallen off people's radar though, because it's hard to imagine Sony would drop it if it was still generating significant revenue like it used to.
I adore DriveClub and I've been playing It a lot the last couple months. I even just got Platinum in both DriveClub and DriveClub bikes this week. But the multiplayer in both is absolutely baron. There's no matches on either to play online. You need to arrange online meet ups
You'll still find a few of us still racing online on an evening fella and when I fired it up last week I had a couple of full lobbies. Just needed a pro upgrade to 60 fps instead of the VR version and I think it would still be going strong now I remember a few months before the devs were shutdown they talking about adding tire deformation and a few other things.. Damn shame
I thought the VR version was awesome. Plus, it was it's own thing, and shouldn't have interfered with a PS4P update. the lack of update was likely due to the studio being shut down though.
Thank you this is what people dont understand no one is playing online. All these fake supporters but they dont even play it. I'll join a race and it will cycle about 10 races before I actually find ONE other person
They could have kept the leaderboards up at least.
Sony has been very weak on Multiplayer games this gen.
Good, most MP games are MT filled garbage
How has sony been weak? They got every genre covered. 1st person, 3rd person cover fighter action adventure platform vr etc
Yet no MP game, which is the point of the discussion here. By the way I don’t understand why PlayableGame’s comment got marked as inappropriate, he said nothing wrong but point out the truth.
So what's gt sport?
Umm those are all mp genres lol. Killzone mp, uncharted last of us mp, bloodbourne mp, Sfv mp, little big planet 3 mp driveclub gt sport mp sooo
Although singstar isn’t my rhythm/singing/band game of choice it annoys me when game services where you can buy songs etc shut down. People bought the tracks to play with, potentially online. Saying that they may have stats saying almost nobody does play it, haha. I love that harmonix have kept on trucking with Rockband at least but come on.. :/
I'm amazed to still see rocksmith get regular updates
Rocksmith is single player , do you mean rockband? There are no servers for rocksmith , I've been playing that for years.
Nope. Rocksmith has new song DLC constantly. Even now
Is it me, or does it appear that Sony is shutting down a LOT of their servers on games a lot faster than other companies?
Is it really? Warhawk Twisted Metal PlayStation All-Star Battle Royale Uncharted 3 DriveClub Sound Shapes Sing Star Killzone MLB: The Show Gravity Rush 2 GT5 The Last of Us, and others! I mean, its certainly possible its just me though, but some of these games are from THIS GENERATION. Whats up with the support?
I heard they were shutting the last guardian too which is a disgrace as it's only been out a few years. Wish Sony would be more like electronic arts I can still play mirrors edge from two thousand and eight with no issues sick of this nonsense!!!
List doesnt mean much unless you make a comparative list to support your comparative question
The funny thing is rain the guy is an admitted xbox fanboy he has on numerous occasions stated he doesn't own a Playstation yet he comes into Playstation articles to concern troll and incite people like he's doing here.
@solid I'm really just teasing tim. Generally, I find him one of the more agreeable xbox fans, and it's usually only console war issues we get into it over. I actually do think that Sony does have its fair share of game servers shut down, but for comparative purposes, I have no clue how they rate in relation to other publishers or console makers. Seems like it may be a good research article for those journalist who read the comments section to get their next hit piece. Although I doubt they have the ability to do proper research
Yeah it is you, since your comment is little more then fake concern from someone who admits he doesn't even own a Playstation. FYI adding "and others" to your list of old games people moved on from is a pretty lame attempt at inflating it. OMG they shut down Sing Star servers this will be the end of Sony for sure, smdh at your trolling.
No...I dont own a Playstation...however, I dont see why I would need to own one just to ask this question. This is more of an observation as a gamer question. I put "and others" because their are more games that could be listed...I really just ran out of patience to do so. "OMG they shut down Sing Star servers this will be the end of Sony for sure, smdh at your trolling." I said nothing about being "the end of Sony", nor anything close to that...but the fact that's how you took my comment says a lot about you. And we are talking about games that again, are from THIS GENERATION is some cases and nothing older than last generation...you think is OK for Sony to shut sown so many of the servers for these games? You support that? @Rain 😄 So if you dont know, why comment? Why say "its you" without bringing anything to the table? By saying "it you", you imply that you feel comparatively, that its not a lot of games being shut down...yet here you are now admitting that you have no idea...interesting.
You didn't run out of patience you ran out of ability. Yes shutting down servers becasue they're moving on to newer bigger and better things I do support that. Again none of this should concern you anyway the fact you're pretending that it does says a lot about you.
Bigger and better huh? But what about the people who bought the games already and want to continue to play the full games that they bought? Shouldn't they be allowed to do so? You think its cool to have a game from THIS GENERATION being shut down this soon is cool? You think bringing out another racer is suppose to make gamers forget about Driveclub, a game that they like and already paid money for? Did releasing GTS make people forget about DC? EDIT: And no...it was out of patience Free Realms Vanguard: Saga of Heroes Wizardry Online AND OTHERS I can keep going...
Yes bigger and better I realize that's a concept people who play on other consoles don't really comprehend but with Playstation we are always getting new and amazing things to move on to. But but but.... I'm sure if they're shutting down servers for a game its because no one is playing it anymore, certainly not enough people to justify running the servers for, or do you think Sony should pay the cost to run servers for a game with extremely low player counts while any other company would justifiably shut them down? Yes please keep going and finding as many old obscure outdated games no one really cares about to list so you can keep trying to make that mountain out of a mole hill you are clearly trying to make. Definitely keep adding "and others" to the list as well its funny every time I see it..
You know you can just ignore him right? He might come off as slightly weird for being concerned over what Sony has or has not shit down, but you come off as incredibly juvenile and insecure. He listed Warhawk and Playstation Allstars if that's not a sign he's not worth replying to I have no idea what is. Some of you Sony guys really need to lay off the kool aid, this kind of discourse is legitimately embarrassing
@Edgelordsupreme You're right I should ignore him instead of giving him the attention he's clearly seeking but be real he comes off as much more than "slightly weird", he has a history here I know of it and its safe to assume you don't. Funny that its the "Sony guys" that need to lay off the kool-aid in Sony articles where we are responding to xbox fanboys trolling. There would be no discourse if people like timotim wasn't always looking to create some. Thanks for your input as one sided and biased as it is.
Discourse noun /ˈdisˌkôrs/ written or spoken communication or debate Stay in school.
@Edgelordsupreme I know what it means nothing I said eluded to me not knowing good try though bud. Again if he wasn't trying to instigate "communication or debate" there wouldn't be any, you looked for an excuse to insult and you failed miserably.
Sometimes I'm prone to flights of whimsy.
Maybe they’ve got a drive club sequel planned for 2020 and they’re keeping it under wraps. Maybe even a ps5 launch title.
Doubt they'd continue the franchise especially after shuttering the devs who made it and closing the servers
I think if that were true, they'd be better off doing it like they did the season pass, and subsequent DLC. Keep the core game in tact, then update to a new season. Keep people's progression and driving statistics, but have new content available. Since the PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4, they'd have a ready to roll driving game for the next gen, with new content. I'm convinced that GT6 didn't get put on PS4 because they wanted to allow DC to shine as a launch title. It got delayed, and it's subsequent launch issues, which really weren't that detrimental to the overall game, made it pretty much a non-factor for what they had hoped to achieve with it. Now, we have GT:S, and no proper A/B Spec GT campaign, and the generation just ended up feeling like a dud for racing games on PS4. Both GT:S and DC are great games, but I feel they didn't generate the excitement that they really could have, and Sony missed out on a great franchise opportunity with DC. As it stands though, I think Sony is dropping the franchise. We'd be more likely to see MotorStorm made as a 2nd party game, since Sony and Evolution are still on good terms apparently.
Singstar has always been my guilty pleasure, it'll be a shame to see it go
Such a shame what Sony did to Driveclub and Evolution Studios, one of it's best firt party studios. All right, the development of the game was rocky and all, but the potential and talent was clearly there. Driveclub is gorgeous at all areas: gameplay, graphics, audio, music and all else. I found myself thinking at times what Driveclub 2 could looks like on PS5 with the (wasted) talent of Evolution. It's the best driving game I played in all my life, and it'll be really hard to top it. I will NEVER never forgive Sony for killing Evo and Driveclub. NEVER.
Same DC is my favorite racer of all time, and I've been playin since Pole Position!
What sony did? Evo made good games but every game was a mess at launch. Hell driveclub was an entire year late and even when it launched it was missing some of the most important advertised features. Even still they were given the opportunity to continue to make content add streetbikes and work on the vr portion. Wasnt like they did one of their flagship developers GG with the VR game rigs the dlc stopped randomly and the vr branch got shutdown it completely unbalanced the game with some teams having all rig types available and others didnt
How is this on Sony? They took so much heat from everyone because Evolution Studios delivered a broken mess even after giving them extra time to fix it. Was it a mistake to shut them down? Who knows seeing that we don't actually know how much money Sony spent on them. No one is saying there wasn't talent there much of which was absorbed into other Sony studios but rather if Sony trusted them with another huge project which is obvious they didn't and the reason they got shut down.
Guess I better hurry up to get that Driveclub VR platinum!
Many of you are saying it was Sony's fault the game died. But I'd argue it was Evolution Studios' fault Driveclub died. Not because Sony closed them down, but because the game was supposed to release with the PS4's launch, received a nearly year-long delay, and still released as a suboptimal game. Anyone care to prove me wrong?
Hopefully this will be the last time i see that ugly mug in the sunglasses trying to peer through my tv for a kiss with those ugly lips and his 80’s mullet.
Good on MS i rarely ever hear of servers shutting for any game , should move to peer to peer to keep them alive when older.
An adaptive server architecture where servers are spun up when lobbies are requested is the real way to go. At launch its what MS was talking about with their Azure stuff, not sure if they stuck to that long term.
Stuff like this makes the idea of "Game Pass and PS Now are just renting games and I want to own my games" far less meaningful.
