*Spoiler: Leaked Shadow of the Tomb Raider screenshots show young Lara Croft

Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases in two weeks and it appears that gamers will be able to play as young Lara Croft. A new set of screenshots were leaked today, showing young Lara running and climbing.

From the looks of it, this could be a memory scene that Lara will recall at some point during the game. Apart from that, we don’t have any additional details but it’s a bit ‘weird‘ – for lack of a better word – watching a young Lara after Uncharted 4 showing a young Drake.

So let me get this straight, someone is releasing into the internet a 3D model of loli Lara Croft? Wonder how that will turn out.

Skull5212429d ago

Recently everyone cried spoilers for God of War and Spider-Man, so why not this too?

CarlDechance2429d ago

@Skull521

I'm sorry but the concept of "spoilers" did not originate with God of War or Spider-man.

Time to give a big strong push to that damn rock you've been living under.

SuperSonic912429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

Reminds me more like Horizon Zero Dawn than Uncharted honestly.

TheGamingArt2429d ago

Now they’re just directly copying Uncharted’s storytelling lol.

AcidDvl2429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

The next Tomb Raider will feature her sister who she thought had died in a Panamanian prison.

-Foxtrot2429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

It's hard to stop the comparisons at this stage

https://ibb.co/giN0hz

Imalwaysright2429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

Yes especially when TR Revelations and TR Chronicles featured a young Lara years before Uncharted ever existed. If people around here that are Uncharted fans knew the 1st thing about TR they would know that pretty much everything that we see in Uncharted, TR did it 1st and wouldn't make ignorant comments about TR copying Uncharted.

Doomster19712429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

Tomb Raider Revelations from the original developer Core Design started the game with a younger version of Lara. To be honest with you. The Uncharted games are all inspired by the Core Design and the first three Crystal Dynamic Tomb Raiders. The new trilogy of Tomb Raider games takes some Inspiration from Uncharted and Mixes it up a bit. In fact, Uncharted is more like the Original Tomb Raider games than the new Tomb Raider trilogy it. Which is why i love the series. I love the new Tomb Rader series too, so it's a win-win for me.

CarlDechance2429d ago

oh please. Uncharted copied Tomb Raider and then Tomb Raider copied Uncharted. Time to get over it.

cmac862429d ago

Maybe so but Uncharted im sure took lots of things from the original tomb raider games. Can't one just be happy that another game is being released that people enjoy, fanboys arguing all the time, just enjoy the games.

capjacksparrow2429d ago

I think Uncharted takes more from Indiana Jones than TR.

-Foxtrot2429d ago

Uncharted was more inspired by films like Indiana Jones, the Mummy and Romancing the Stone then Tomb Raider.

NaughtyDog always did platforming games so obviously their more realistic game was going to feature more realistic climbing and the like...no double jumps or whacky gizmos.

They are both treasure hunters...but Nate is more of a thief on top of that.

The comparisons end there...at the end of the day they took more from the Uncharted games then Uncharted took from the original Tomb Raider.

ForeverTheGoat2429d ago

Lol y’all fanboys stop. Uncharted definitely took more from tomb raider (in the gameplay department)than tomb raider took from them. Y’all just don’t want to admit it. The grappling hook mechanics, climbing(they even added something similar to her axes in 4), sliding down mechanic, etc

AspiringProGenji2429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

They added something similar to the axe climbing but just for one a couple chapters and that’s it.

The gameplay in Uncharted is different than TR and it is a TPS like most but with their unmatched cinematic presentation. The grappling hook and slinging were things you could do in previous Uncharted games but not as much as you can now, like to get to somewhere and not integrated in combat. Hardly a copy from TR

There’s no denying that Uncharted has taken some inspiration from TR but Uncharted has been more inspired by films. On the other hand TR developers have taken lots of inspiration from Uncharted because it has been the more successful title and it has been proven many times already. The last proof was using a U2 OST in a TR trailer

monkey6022429d ago

Sorry foreverthegoat but no.

When Uncharted first came around I always referred to it as Guy Tomb Raider with my family and partner when they didn't know what in was talking about. It was always clear Uncharted had some inspiration from Tomb Raider.

But when Tomb Raider rebooted in 2013 it was almost an Uncharted Lara Croft mod. As if it was nearly the same engine. Rise differentiated it a bit but this young Lara has an uncanny resemblance to the Uncharted scenario again.

SuperSonic912429d ago

You are so wrong. Uncharted Drake's Fortune was supposed to be Jak and Daxter 4! Instead ND wanted a straight up human to replace Jak hence Nathan Drake with all the Jak n Daxtet tropes fully intact, storytelling, humor, gunplay, vehicles, platforming, treasure seeking premise, melee brawling, etc etc.
Do your homework first before you go to class, mate.

Imalwaysright2429d ago

SuperSonic91

No it wasn't. Uncharted was supposed to be a game with Tolkien elements until Sony saw how successful shooters were on the Xbox https://kotaku.com/5843140/...

tombfan2429d ago

Mmmmm if you knew that the first Tomb Raider games did already do this, then... Uncharted copied Tomb Raider. I mean, stop whining and enjoy the games.

WadeSeven2428d ago

Not looking forward to this game at all but for your knowledge, Tomb Raider 4 used young Lara way before Uncharted, and sadly uncharted 3 was practically a shameless Last Crusade rip-off. Although i enjoyed it by the time.

-Foxtrot2429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

Mind went straight to young Drake in Uncharted 3

Funnily enough it's the 3rd Tomb Raider game of the reboot...they aren't even hiding it now.

Didn't they really give off the impression during the first reboot game that she was brand new to anything like what she was facing, danger in general and now you have her as a young kid balancing herself across a rooftop...which isn't something a young kid would be doing or would dare to do.

Sunny_D2429d ago

Yooooo your last paragraph is so true. How is she doing shit like climbing buildings that most adults are scared to do including herself in TR1. I thought she learned her skills over the course of the trilogy? Sheesh.

Kind of hard to give them a pass when the director decided to take shots at TLOU2 when it was revealed at E3.

-Foxtrot2429d ago

Exactly. It really goes against the constant "BECOME THE TOMB RAIDER" bullshit they've been spewing for like 3 games now. Now we have a young kid hanging off windows and ledges, jumping to the next building, pulling herself up and from the rebooted games she was supposed to have had a normal sheltered life...it's what really put her in danger during the first reboot game. Here you had a young, fit healthy woman who was thrust into doing stuff she had never done before in her life.

Now it seems she was always getting up to life endangering things as a child.

SuperSonic912429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

According to Amy Hennig Uncharted DF was originally Jak 4 hence the similarities with all Jak n Daxter game play mechanics except the gameplay and settings are humanized this time - the story, combat, premise, character designs, dialogue, buddy system, treasure hunting, platforming, etc.
Evan wells also said ICO platforming and SOTC aiming and shooting mechanics are major influence on Uncharted DF.
It is well documented in a Bruce Straley and Amy Hennig interview.

Uncharted is successor to Jak and Daxter series.
And Jak was inspired by Crash Bandicoot to boot.
I dunno about where they get the Tomb Raider stuff from.

Imalwaysright2429d ago

Could you provide a link to that interview?

Imalwaysright2429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

@ -Foxtrot

A rooftop? LMAO Young Lara was dealing with demons in TR Chronicles. Just shows how much you know about TR which is next to nothing.

MrsNesbitt2429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

A lot of things people are forgetting about the early TR games and what they pioneered. And also, who didn't climb at ridiculous heights as kids??? I used to climb my school roof with friends all the time back in the day and then run for our lives when we were caught. Its not that unimaginable but I agree it goes against their current mantra of a novice Lara, compared to Core's iteration of a more ballsy Lara.

milohighclub2428d ago

@iamalwaysright. should change your name name. I think you missed the point of Foxtrots comment here... He was refering to the reboot trilogy, the lore of the past games doesn't sit in this universe because it's been rebooted.

Imalwaysright2428d ago

milohighclub

Lara was trained by Roth, a former royal marine and her father. That's why she does what she does in the reboot trilogy. What we see in these screenshots we already saw in Rise of TR. It does make sense and that fox guy is nothing but a troll that claims to be a TR fan but doesn't know the 1st thing about it. Oh and no I won't change my username.

riibhu2429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

She was brand new to killing people.....not climbing rooftops. You could actually see her climbing the manor as a child in ROTR in a cutscene with her father. SMH.
As for uncharted comparison, as pointed out by most here tomb raider did it first so stop with the silly comparison. Flashback is common in story telling no one is copying here.

Oh wow... this is a little bit TOO much Uncharted 4.

SuperSonic912429d ago (Edited 2429d ago )

More like Uncharted 3 actually.

StormLegend2429d ago

What’s next lol? will she be brave enough to end her career like drake did in the final game? I highly doubt it.

So much hassle people had for FF16 performance on PS5 to hit PC and still be barely playable. FF16 is hitting the crysis “can it run it” for PCs.

And now I’m genuinely wondering is it because the devs failed to properly design the game or is it because it is over ambitious.

Hofstaderman200d ago (Edited 200d ago )

Too many variances in the PC ecosystem. They can attempt to optimize to a point but ultimately, as it is in most cases, individuals will have to tweak settings to get their rig to run the game at its subjective best. Me personally, I enjoy a no fuss console experience but must admit I'm getting into the simplistic steam deck tweaks.

Michiel1989200d ago

that's just nonsense, square is just bad at ports and have been for years. Japanese ports were notorious for it a good while, but it has gotten better but still nothing to write home about. Take FF7R pt1 for example, at launch on pc there were frequent random fps drops for no reason and a guy, a single guy got a patch out within 2 days that fixed it, if that doesn't say enough about their incompetency with pc ports then idk.

DustMan200d ago

I don't know how people are getting such poor performance. It ran well for me +60fps at 1440p dlss balanced, all high settings. I'm on a i7-8700, 32gb ram, and 3080, so a pretty old setup. I get very few stutters, and it's buttery smooth if i cut the shadows down to medium settings. cut scenes have been modded to run at 60fps.

It's sitting at "mostly positive reviews' on steam. With most of the complaints coming from those with said poor performance. By absolutely no means is this a perfect / great port, but it's not god awful. Seems like it's a hardware issue on the customers end, and issues with the port itself.

Inverno200d ago

This is talking about proton tho. It's expected for games to run poorly because they aren't natively running on Linux. I will agree however that Square has a history of putting out horribly running games on PC.

Hofstaderman200d ago

The game was optimized specifically for the PS5 and even so it makes that console creak....wonder how the Pro will handle it....

883200d ago

Hoping very much that it gets some "Pro Enhanced" attention.

Underrated? If anything, the game is overrated in my opinion

TricksterArrow223d ago (Edited 223d ago )

Yeah. The "open hub" model with "quest givers" really did not work at all for me.

Gamehard223d ago

Agree. To me, it was the weakest of the reboot trilogy.

CrimsonWing69223d ago

I literally came in here to say this. It started off so good, too. Once you hit Peru or wherever, you smash into a brick wall with the pacing. Honestly, the first entry in the reboot was the best one of this trilogy. Also, I’ll never understand why they let you dual wield her classic pistols in the first reboot at the very end and then in the sequels they never gave you that again.

isarai223d ago

Even more insulting. They let you buy one of the two pistols in Shadow of the tomb raider but never the second one

SeTTriP223d ago

Or her command prompt acrobatics.

Lexreborn2223d ago

The first was cool, it had its flaws but it wasn’t a bad starter. The second was supposed to be something special and just did not live up to the promises. The 3rd I can’t even finish it’s just not fun and narratively still a huge issue for the character.

Laura is written so contradictory, trinity supposedly is so bad but her body count on innocence and villains alike is alarming.

MeatyUrologist223d ago

It had its high points. Visuals are still some of the best I have ever seen. The areas were also gorgeous and fun to explore and the puzzles were actually good. That being siad the combat felt terrible, the hub area of paititi was boring, and nearly every aspect of the game felt a step backward from Rise. I still love the series and really forward to the next entry but hoping they make it mode similar to rise or even the original reboot.

MasterChief3624223d ago

I adored Rise of the Tomb Raider, but for some reason I had a harder time getting into Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Ravenkiss223d ago

Shadow of the Tomb Raider was a huge letdown compared to the series Reboot and Rise of the Tomb Raider...

mastershredder223d ago

You mean the game where they took out all the cool weapons? The locations were okay, a bit unoriginal and too much like the first Uncharted. 1 and 2 rocked. This one tried.

I've noticed when I was still paying for Prime that those supposed free games they give through Epic are just free games epic gives without the need of Prime. Rugrats is in the list in the article and it's available to get without Prime so that's pretty shady on Amazon's part, or maybe it's Epic being scummy.

TheNamelessOne223d ago

Tales from the Borderlands (the original, good one), Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Borderlands the pre-sequel, Borderlands 2, Loop Hero, Trek to Yomi, Greedfall, Shadow of Mordor, Hard West 2, Figment 2. Some great gets there.

__y2jb222d ago

Amazon never give steam codes away so the steam deck link here is silly unless you are modding and installing epic launcher.

Kyizen222d ago

Yeah I get a ton of free games on epic, It works but having to launch the Epic browser and games though it is pain vs just using the Steam deck OS. Once the game is running no issue though,

FinalFantasyFanatic222d ago

They give away quite a few GOG versions of games though, I suppose you can just slap those onto your Steam Deck (I've done this), although it's not always ideal.

__y2jb222d ago (Edited 222d ago )

You can but it’s a pain to launch them and doesn’t it require installing windows?

FinalFantasyFanatic220d ago

You don't need windows, personally, I just download it on PC, then transfer it to the Steamdeck via network sharing or USB stick. Then you add it to the Steamdeck as a "non-steam game" like you would if you were using a PC. The only downside is if you play the game on both PC and Steamdeck, you'll have to manually transfer save files.

Supposedly you can use Hero launcher or something, but I can't seem to get the games to work after download it via GOG on Steamdeck. So manually transfer it is for me.
