Tethering????? Wtf this might kill it for me.

gangsta_red2560d ago

Was very disappointed to hear about the tethering part of the game as it makes no sense at all to have. If you're playing co-op and someone strays to far, that's their problem.

This game already has a strike against it for that.

ShottyatLaw2560d ago

Supposedly it has a larger range than the tethering in Far Cry 5. It didn't seem to be a strike against FC5, though.

gangsta_red2560d ago

I didn't even know FC5 had it. I guess I will have to actually play it to see how bad it really is.

The tethering won't be much of a deal when you're playing with friends who communicate. I mean, who is going to stray that far off by themselves in this game anyway when death is permanent?

That being said, I'd still rather NOT have it. It could be used as an advantage though. Have the host wait on the skirts of the tether line, have a guy run in a grab resources real quick, the host then takes off and warps their buddy to safety.

Cmv382560d ago

But it's 2018, tethering in games is unnecessary. It's an online game where you roam around. You communicate because you have freedom to split up. Not because you have to be 10 meters from each other.

Jinger2560d ago

Splitting up will not be the best option in this game anyway. Also it really depends on the length of this tether. This article is saying that it's fairly generous and unless you're going in opposite directions doing a completely different mission, you shouldn't notice it.

conanlifts2560d ago

The tethering does not seem as sensitive as 10m though.

"When you drive a significant distance away from your friends, they will "hitch a ride" towards you"

So you could still go some distance away from each other without an issue.

Jinger2560d ago

Gotta take advantage of gameplay systems haha

quent2560d ago

That was my only question/concern about the game, not being able to split up and handle different tasks at once

Cueil2555d ago

Lol thinking you'll be able to go solo

The tethering seems like a odd choice. It’s a survival sim game. There’s no story or boss fights. Why would you need to tethered? The article says for performance reasons. They make it sound like they are a small studio (they are) with no resources for net code. If so Microsoft needs to step up.

“The distance feels generous enough that most co-op players shouldn't really notice it.”
If the line encompasses a large area of the map then I could forgive. It just makes me wonder what the real reason was for shying away from dynamic co-op in a dynamic game.
