Did this happen because of sever issues they don't want to exacerbate, quality issues or because they're trying to avoid giving people a free spin after the surprising tepid reception?

MRMagoo1233852d ago

I would think they would want to give people the chance to try it after the reviews rather than not right? I dont think it makes sense to not release it because of reviews.

ValKilmer3852d ago

I think it's sort of like Transformers: Age of Extinction.

The reviews were bad, but it looked awesome, and you were thinking "There's no way this is terrible, the critics are wrong, I'll go check it out for myself" and then you do and it turns out to be terrible.

Yet if you were given the first 40 minutes of the film beforehand, you would have never wasted money on it.

guitarded773852d ago

All I know is they are screwing the pooch on this launch. After a year long delay they should have had their crap together and ready to go. I loved the Motorstorm games, I love GT, and I hope I love DC enough to buy it, but as of right now I'm still waiting to try the damn game after initially pre-ordering it before the PS4 launch.

Kaz has been apologetic about the status of this game since the delay, but I bet he's mega pissed right now since Sony gave them so much time to make it well, but fail to get it off the starting line. Some people on social media are still kissing the devs ass, but this is one of those occasions where gamers need to call them out. People who paid for the game can't play it online, and one of the first games announced for PS+ on PS4 can't even hit release day. They need to get it together, or they're gonna end up like Zipper Interactive.

mcarsehat3852d ago

Jesus this game really is a balls-up isn't it.

ValKilmer:

Transformers is a tricky concept to me, it was shot, acted, edited, wrote and scored exactly the same way as the other films, the story structure was actually better than the last few and Empire Magazine (the biggest and most important film magazine in the uk)gave it a better review than the last 3 but it got a lower score on Rotten Tomatoes, the film was better than any of the other Transformers because of it's writing (amateur but at least it had an arc) but it got about 40% lower than the last, even Revenge of the Fallen which WAS worse, i mean statistically WORSE.

That's why i'm confused.

A012345673852d ago

My guess it is due to the server issues. Aside from the frequency of these issues, the thing that really is irking people is the absolute lack of communication.

It's forgivable to make a mistake, it's not to simply hide the matter.

andibandit3852d ago (Edited 3852d ago )

Maybe theyre hiding the matter by mistake

spacedelete3852d ago (Edited 3852d ago )

what an absolute con. Sony delays the PlayStation plus offerings because of Driveclub then when its PlayStation plus update day they don't even want to release it. so we waited longer for the PlayStation plus offerings for nothing. they probably delayed it so some fools just blindly buy it without playing the demo.

typical Sony bending the rules when they feel like it.

snookiegamer3852d ago

Sony already revealed over a month ago that they are releasing PS+ DriveClub October 8th U.S. (Today) ...and October 10th UK (Friday).

DC did not miss its release date...so quit whipping up controversy.

isa_scout3852d ago

Not true... Even big sites like IGN have the ps+ edition releasing free along with Dust and Spelunky during the update. Sony very rarely updates the store on any day but Tuesday. The last time was with MineCraft, but that was because they were having trouble getting it on the store in time. I have a feeling this is an internal issue as you can't even buy he full game on PSN unless you purchase the $49.99 ps plus edition.

andibandit3852d ago (Edited 3852d ago )

In the other thread people said "One week ago Sony said the 8th october..."

now its suddenly 1 month ago..

At this rate, we'll have to rewrite the history books soon

OrangePowerz3852d ago

I don't see how it could have quality issues since it's just a scaled down version and to avoid giving people a free spin wouldn't make much sense either since you want to convince people to get the full version.

It sucks that they delay the game because of server issues, I wouldn't mind playing the offline content until they fix the servers :/

all i know is buy during 30 dollart sale now b friday or psn holiday sales of christmas to many mixed reviews i prefered project cars this holiday im sticking to that

BadlyPackedKeebab3852d ago

I am guessing its because its pants and they want to get as many blind sales as they can. I suspect the plus edition will turn off more than it will turn on based on reviews. What a shame. Hope to be surprised but we will see. Might pick up Horizon as was waiting on this, not feeling the need for both.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi3852d ago

Wonder what all this could be about. This game has been plagued almost since it was announced. I've always defended Driveclub cuz despite the lack of variety in cars, the delay and the mixed reviews I still think it's a fun looking game, but something ill is going on over at sony and evolution studios about this game. Guess, I'll be waiting til Friday to play after all.

Classic PS4 Racer DriveClub Is Now a Decade Old

PushSquare:

DriveClub, the legendary PS4 racer from shuttered Runcorn studio Evolution, has such an interesting story.

Originally announced alongside the PS4, the game had been intended as a launch title – we even played it in a big London church Sony had rented to showcase the new system prior to its release.

Evolution was done dirty... DC is still the most stunning visual game of its generation. They certainly deserved better in the end.

VenomUK198d ago (Edited 198d ago )

DriveClub was pretty and I loved the experience of driving in the rain, it was immersive. I had some good races with people from an old forum, but at times I found it to be a bit boring. MotorStorm was such a fun game to play and I loved the controls - it would make sense to remaster that.

DarXyde198d ago

I'd give the visual showcase award of the last generation to The Order: 1886. That game was immaculate.

Uncharted 4 was also absolutely insane, and perhaps manages to use the PS4's power in extremely clever ways.

jznrpg198d ago

It didn’t get good reviews unfortunately

obidanshinobi198d ago

Cause the game was mediocre at best, and surpassed in pretty much every area by Forza Horizon 2.

IRetrouk198d ago

Apart from visuals, driving model, weather effects, only thing forza had was an open world...

Inverno198d ago (Edited 198d ago )

It's multiplayer component was the only thing struggling at launch but the game was still perfectly playable offline. Done dirty is an understatement because how many games after came out with broken online components that got a pass? Now games with an SP and MP get separate reviews for SP and MP smh! SONY shut them down as if Evo had been bleeding money instead of putting out great games. Their fate was undeserved and they were the targets of a media smear campaign due to that one trailer.

Knushwood Butt198d ago

Loved it.
Now here's a game that would benefit from a remaster.
4K, 60 FPS
I'd buy it.

ravens52198d ago

Might have to fire it up. Got it day 1, it was great to me.

outsider1624198d ago

See? Another reason why physical is important. Going all digital will have you miss out games like this.

Gabrielmpf198d ago

I loved tackling the leaderboards. It's a shame they couldn't even keep them.

Yi-Long198d ago

Brilliant game, I really miss it, and it deserved so much better than what Sony did to it.
Most important reason I liked it; It was FUN. That’s it. The actual gameplay, throwing a car around corners, the challenging AI opponents, the entertaining tracks which were peak-design, etc etc, it was above all just FUN to play.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85469d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio469d ago (Edited 469d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack469d ago (Edited 469d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972469d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183468d ago (Edited 468d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim469d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno468d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183468d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 468d ago
Chocoburger469d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai469d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC469d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.

Driveclub - Brutal Backlog

Driveclub was a headline game at the start of the PS4’s life. A fabulous game – eventually - but what now, with the servers turned off? Is it worth your time? JDR starts its engines in today’s Brutal Backlog.

Bikes expansion might be one of the most underrated games of last gen. Incredible driver and bike animations + DC weather is craze.
