The map in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is huge, making it difficult to understand where a player may be. With the addition of sky islands and the depths the map even has multiple levels stacked on top of each other, making it hard to understand. Thankfully Nintendo gave us all a hand in understanding our place in Hyrule with the help of map coordinates.
Map coordinates are always available to tell players exactly where they are at any given time. Given how many sites use coordinates in their guides for things such as shrine, quests, Skyview Towers, and Korok seed locations, they can be an incredibly helpful tool. This guide will show players where to find their coordinates and how to read them so that players can use any guide to get exactly where they want to go in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
How Do Players Use Coordinates in Tears of the Kingdom?
A player’s coordinates can be found by looking at the map radar or the right side of the screen on the main map while using the Purah Pad. There are three numbers listed there, giving players their X, Y, and Z coordinates respectively. The Purah Pad is opened with the – Button.
While this sounds confusing, the concept is quite simple. X axis pertains to horizontal map movement, Y axis is vertical map movement, and Z axis is the player’s height. These show your location in the world of Hyrule.

These numbers all change in relation to a point near the center of the map. Moving left and right on the map will change X-axis, moving up and down will change Y-axis, and changes in height will change Z-axis. Very helpful for finding Korok Seeds.
Coordinates only show for Link’s current location. A player can’t click on another location on the map to find out its coordinates. That means players will have to get used to how the coordinates change based on the player’s movement. Still, given a few tries, it gets easy to understand.
By becoming familiar with coordinates, players will always be able to understand where they’ve traveled by comparing coordinates to places they’ve already been. And since guides tend to use coordinates to describe the exact location of important places in the game, players will always know if they’re going in the right direction.
Learning coordinates is a great way to progress in the main quest, locate Dragon’s Tears and Dragon Tear locations for Impa, find secrets, caves, Bubbul Gems, locate armor, and more. The easiest way to travel is using towers, such as the Ulrl Mountain Skyview Tower or Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower and making these fast travel points. This lets you easily explore regions like Akkala, Lanayru Wetlands, Eldin Mountains, or Hyrule Field. Lookout Landing is the first one you can encounter, so start there. Here are some other Skyview Towers.
