On June 4, the name and some details of a new map were leaked. The devs will supposedly add the map in patch 8.11, on June 11. Valorant players were thrilled that the leak revealed the name of this new map was Abyss. Fans were eager to share everything they knew so far and theorize what could be waiting for them in Abyss.
Everything We Know About the New Map
An account on X, Valorant Leaks & News, shared the name and an exciting first look at the new map. A Redditor, celz9, shared some more details. “The new map will be demonstrated on the day of the Masters Shanghai final match live. It will enter the competitive map rotation alongside Haven, replacing Split and Breeze, and will be among the existing options among the casual and other modes”. They added: “It will remain the location of one of the Scions of Hourglass’ bases of operations according to lore and will probably have an animated reveal trailer just like Sunset map had”.
Fans were in awe over the mysterious name and an interesting color scheme. Those with an eye for detail had a lot to say based on one picture alone. Warcri2240 noted: “If it has that oceanic/underwater vibe to it (as hinted in that wallpaper), perhaps aesthetics is a significant reason for why Pearl wasn’t brought back to the rotation. Too many “oceanic” maps at once”.
Not everyone agreed with this idea. DawdlingBongo insisted: “It has nothing to do with underwater or oceanic, it’s literally an abyss map as the title suggests, and just cuz it’s dark blue doesn’t mean it’s about the ocean”. The OP added: “This map seems more “threatening” in terms of setting. The fact that the name of the map is just “Abyss” is kinda wild because it matches the theme of this episode, a more “dark” chapter”.
DjinnsPalace observed: “seems more like either underground or at least inside a deep crevasse”. Another player, Primer2396, confirmed: “Abyss straight up reminds me of the hole in the middle of fracture, another map kept out for similarity reasons”.
Which New Gimmick Would The Fans Want to See?
Fans were quick to share their wishes for a gimmick in the new map. A player, dawn_of_dae, said: “It’s impossible because of abilities like Brim and Clove’s smokes but I’m hoping for a vertical map with lots of high ground/low ground positions. It’d be so fun to play”.
Another fan, nilwise came up with a cool idea. They said: “Gimmick will be that there are “holes” in the map that players can fall to their death, even on bomb sites. Hence the name Abyss”. DecIare shared their vision: “I’m like 70% sure the gimmick is gonna be bomb sites on 2 different levels”.
In the sea of ideas, most of the players agreed only on one thing. A fan, shakzz9703, said: “Thank f**k Breeze is gone. Genuinely never bring it back”. LemonPepperWangs1 seconded that feeling: “Thank god Breeze is going away”. Many fans agreed. And, honestly, we get it.
With all this hype and excitement, it’ll be hard to wait until June 11. The leak of the name of the new map allowed Valorant players to indulge in their fantasies. We wonder if anyone guessed correctly. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, why not explore the community some more?
