In the past decade, no game had come close to knocking Counter-Strike from its dominant place as the best online tactical shooter. But then in 2020, Valorant took the gaming community by storm. Riot Games, the guys behind League of Legends, developed this 5v5 character-based first-person shooter for PC. Valorant’s greatest weapon is the combination of great gunplay and the unique abilities of its Agents. This FPS game combines many good aspects of similar games. You have unique characters, just like in Overwatch, but, besides bullets, you’ll need some creativity to win on the global, competitive stage. But is Valorant free to play? Read on to find out.
Can You Play Valorant for Free?
Yes, Valorant is free to play. All you have to do is create a Riot Games account, download the game and you’re good to go. That being said when you install the game you will get only five agents for free. All other agents can be bought using one of Valorant’s in-game currency. The Agents you unlock for free are:
- Brimstone
- Jett
- Phoenix
- Sage
- Sova
You’ll have full access to the game and all of its game modes (like Deathmatch or Spike Rush). Test your tactical abilities in this FPS, where you’ll switch from the attacking team (the ones that want to plant the bomb) to the defending team, and let your gunplay shine. Naturally, Valorant has some form of in-game currency and microtransactions, so let’s take a look at those.

What is Valorant’s In-Game Currency?
Valorant has three different in-game currencies, and we will go through them in detail:
- Valorant Points can be purchased with real-life money, and with them, you can buy things in Valorant’s shop, buy agents, or exchange them for Radianite Points.
- Radianite Points can be used to purchase cosmetic upgrades for your guns. In addition to Valorant Point exchange, you can also unlock Radianite Points through the Battle Pass.
- Kingdom Credits can only be earned by playing the game, and every match you play will reward you with them. Kingdom Credits can be used to buy Agents, contract rewards, and accessories.
What Kinds of Microtransactions Are in Valorant?
Valorant has a Store where you can spend Valorant Points to buy weapon skins. Weapon skins will also be available for purchase on the Night Market every few months. In the accessories section, you can spend Kingdom Points to buy Agents, accessories and banners. You can also upgrade the Battle Pass to Premium with Valorant Points.
