One thing is for sure, The First Descendant players are extremely devoted to the game. They often share their discoveries and opinions with their online community. One player even made a detailed report after spending more than 200 hours playing the game. This might have inspired the other players, as they are more open to sharing their experiences. One of them gave a fabulous and very detailed take on all the issues regarding farming and the Farms in The First Descendant.
One Descendant Listed All the Main Issues With Farming
Horotoma took to Reddit to share their findings about farming, after playing the game for more than 100 hours. They noted: “In The First Decendent, your endgame is all about farming for the Decendent you want, weapons, and the upgrades to improve those two. And more farming to optimize”.
According to Horotoma, once you finish farming for Gold, Kuiper, Amorphous Materials, and Rare Basic Materials, “there isn’t any content that you can use them on other than speed-running Collusus fights”.
This player states that to get the Descendants and the weapons, you have to go through 3 layers of RNG. The probability of getting the relevant Amorphous Materials from a mission, followed by the probability of getting Relevant Materials from the Amorphous Materials, and, finally, finding a Rare Basic Materials Farm with low drop rates.
Horotoma stated: “Overall, Farming in The First Decentdent right now has some very odd requirements that are time-wasting (Void Fragments), pace-breaking mission pauses, and some very low drop rates for Basic Materials. That leads to very extended wait time which is exacerbated by high 2-layered RNG of Amorphous Materials.”
This player went on to explain the problems of several Farms and offer highly logical solutions for those problems. According to them, the Farms with the most issues are the Zone Recon Farm, the Rare Basic Materials Farm, and the Void Reactor Farm.
Rare Basic Materials Farms
This Descendant noted: “If you are lucky, it is common to get some Materials from specific maps. But for most Ultimate and Standard Descendants, you are looking at Materials that are a chance drop, from specific elite/boss monsters, one at a time.”
Suggested improvements: “Make these materials a guaranteed drop from the Elite Monsters. Improve ALL mission modes to remove waiting time. Mobs should spawn when the previous wave is wiped. This applies to the open world missions, infiltration missions, and Special Operations”.
Zone Recon Farms
Reportedly, one of the biggest issues is that The First Descendant Players spend more time waiting than playing the missions on these Farms. Also, there is only a 20-25% chance of getting a single Amorphous Material. We don’t like the math on this one, because you’ll get one Amorphous Material for every four to five missions.
Suggested improvements: “Make the mission refresh instantly on load for private lobbies. People are already changing lobbies constantly to find one that is already refreshed, all you are doing is to ensure players are actively playing the game and not simply fiddling with the map until they can play”.
Void Reactor Farms
Defeating a boss in a Void Reactor mission is challenging, but manageable, and also, let’s face it, fun. The main problem, according to Horotoma, lies in resource requirements. This player explained: “You need to farm shards from Void Fragments, and not all elements have the ability to get all the shards you need. Meaning some players are locked out of farming simply cause they do not have the matching character to farm”.
Add to that some more wasted time, as you’ll need 3-4 at the very least. Horotoma said: “There is no challenge here, simply a waste of time + stonewalling people without the needed characters. The only good thing is that you are guaranteed the fragments, but only if you have the matching element character”. Oh, and also, the mobs only drop Gold.
Suggested improvements: “Either make mobs drop loot here (weapons, reactors, mods, and Kuiper) or remove the Void Shard Requirements. If the intent of this game mode is just to pad out time, players will feel it eventually, and as it is a big part of the grind, it will become a very real reason people drop off both in the short and long term”.
The First Descendant Players Ask the Devs to Resolve the Issues With the Farms
Lots of players wholeheartedly agreed with the OP. One of them, definitelynotmeQQ, praised the OP and even confirmed many of the aforementioned issues. They shared their disdain for Void Shards and ridiculously long waiting times. This player added: “I know trading is coming, but layered RNG in this game could use some reduction”.
Several players stated that they were on the verge of quitting the game because of the Void Fragments. Raikken noted: “Their farm is so braindead and boring that I don’t feel like I can do it anymore. And the fact that you need a specific type of character otherwise you get f**k all makes it so much worse”.
NoAd8660 shared their way of evading the Void Fragments. They stated: “I’d rather farm normal mode for a 3% chance than deal with Void Fragments for 6%. It’s insanely tedious and time-consuming. I can get 2x more chances at a 3% drop than the 6% chance with less time invested (when applicable)”.
Honestly, what we find the most annoying is the waiting, for sure. Most players don’t have a lot of free time to enjoy the game, so when they do play it, we can see how annoying it must be to mindlessly wait. We also need to acknowledge that The First Descendant is still a new game that is bound to have issues with Farms and everything else until the devs find the balance. So, be patient and enjoy the good aspects of the game, as the devs will fix the annoying ones at some point.
