The Finals is a free-to-play shooter that is climbing the top of the charts pretty fast. Players seem to enjoy the game-show style and the ability to destroy almost everything in the game, including buildings (preferably with the opposing team inside). However, there are some issues and discontent from the game’s player base, namely with the Battle Pass.
Dissatisfaction With The Finals Battle Pass
The Finals is a F2P game, so Embark Studios needs to have some way to generate revenue from it. You can spend real money in The Finals to purchase cosmetics and Battle Passes. The main issue seems to be that the Battle Pass requires too much grinding to complete. Players estimate that you need around 100 hours of playing to complete it, and some, like the original poster CBTNotTheGameKind, have an issue with that, claiming that it is “impossible to finish” and “the slowest BP progression ever, forcing you to spend hours and hours”. Some gamers agree with the original poster: “I don’t want to play a game 70 hours every season, and to feel like I have to if I don’t want to miss out on something, either. That is ‘dozens of hours.’ Even 30 hours of a game in 2 months means a lot of other games I won’t get to. “
But those are actually a minority. Most of the fanbase claims that playing 100 hours during the course of the Battle Pass (90 days) is nothing special, considering the game is free-to-play to begin with. MattMurdocEsq asks: ”90 days to complete? Free game? Cosmetics that aren’t pay to win? What’s the issue here?” Almost everyone agrees, with Tiny_Web_7817 stating: “Just do your daily and weekly challenges? Playing tournaments also gives increased exp. Not sure what people expect out of a F2P game.”
Others make fun of the OP and players who think that the Battle Pass is impossible, calling them lazy and requiring instant gratification for everything. Antiversum says: ”People don’t have fun in playing a game anymore, they only have fun when there’s something to unlock.” Another player agrees, stating that if you don’t want to play for hours, don’t buy a Battle Pass: “I don’t know what to say. If you don’t want to play 100 hours, maybe don’t invest in a Battle Pass? The capital G gamer entitlement is so obnoxious these days. It’s free. Enjoy the game. No one forces you to buy a battle pass.”
Final Thoughts
It seems that the issue with the Battle Pass being impossible is not quite true, as most of the player community claims it is more than doable. But the reality is that if you want the final reward for completing the Battle Pass, but are not prepared to dedicate a considerable amount of hours to complete it, maybe getting the Battle Pass in the first place is not such a great idea.
Free-to-play games need to generate some kind of revenue to sustain them. The great thing about The Finals is that no amount of real-life money can give you an edge over your opponents, so anything you spend on it is purely cosmetic. All things considered, complaining that cosmetics and Battle Passes have to be paid when the whole game is free, is just not ok.
