The Finals have a great system in place for rewarding the players for simply playing the game. The contracts system is a series of challenges that, once completed, rewards players with in-game items. Moreover, the introduction of the Circuit Career Contracts system just enhanced this experience. All you need to do is simply play the game to earn free skins and other goodies. However, not everyone in the community had a positive reaction to these changes.
The Finals Contracts Nerf Causing Arguments in the Fanbase
The recent Contracts nerf that came with Patch 2.4.0 has lowered the bar for some Contracts. This change made some of the harder Contracts in the Circuit easier to finish. This, in turn, made a part of the player base a bit angry with The Finals community in a recent Reddit thread.
The biggest change here is the “Win 1 Tournament” Contract. Many of the casual players found this hard to complete, especially since the Unranked Tournament was removed from the game. This made it an uphill battle to get a Tournament Win among the more competitive crowd. Redditor Spinnenente described this perfectly: “Most people don’t play comp. Straight up asking them to win is not reasonable.”
As another example, getting 11 kills in one round can seem like a daunting task to new players, but it can be done. The community is split on this one, with the following advice from dadvader on Reddit: “11 elimination is not even hard man. Play power shift and just go kill people. Very doable.”
Lastly, the players all majorly agree that the contract that involves grenades did not need a nerf. It was not restrained in any way with a time limit (like one round) and it was doable if you put some time into it. Moreover, all damage done by grenades is calculated for this Contract, making it an easy one to do in the first place.
Did the Contracts Need Changing?
Lowering the bar for certain Contracts will allow more players to finish harder Contracts. This will progress them through the Career Circuit and reward them with some sweet in-game skins. Even though the recent nerf has infuriated some players, this is a good thing for the community overall. Hopefully, Embark Studios will pay more attention when creating future Contracts, so this kind of nerf does not become a regular occurrence in The Finals.
All Contract Changes in The Finals Patch 2.4.0
The following are the Contracts changes that came with Patch 2.4.0 of The Finals:
- Circuit 1, Stage 3 replaced “Win 1 Tournament” with “Deal 750 Fire Damage to Opponents”
- Circuit 1, Stage 1 reduced “Deal 5000 damage with grenades” to 2500 damage
- Circuit 1, Stage 4 reduced “Get 11 kills in one round” to 6 kills in one round
The latest changes to Contracts have clearly pushed the community into different corners. On the one side are players who think this is an unnecessary change and that Contracts were fine as they were. On the other hand, some players think that this is a good change. They argue that making the Contracts easier allows for more players to finish Circuit challenges.
