Does Payday 3 Run on the Unreal Engine 5?
Payday 3 will be running on the Unreal Engine 4 when it launches for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on September 21. This will be the first time the Payday series has been developed on an engine other than Grin’s Diesel Engine.
However, Payday 3 developer Starbreeze Studios has said that the game will be converted to Unreal Engine 5 sometime after its launch. No specific date has been given for the switch, but have explained the change on the Payday 3 official website FAQ:
“We started developing the game on Unreal 4, so that’s what makes the most sense for us to release. We’re planning on upgrading to Unreal Engine 5 post launch.”

The Unreal Engine 5 is the latest 3D graphics game engine developed by Epic Games. The company first introduced the first game engine back in 1998 alongside the release of first-person shooter Unreal.
