Brutalities are the most iconic part of Mortal Kombat, and MK1 has brought them back and made them better than ever. Although you can finish off your opponent with a simple Fatality, Brutality is where the real action happens. So, if you’re still stuck looking for how to do brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1, look no further.

How to Perform Brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1

In order to perform Brutality, you need to finish your opponent without letting the Fatality screen pop up. In other words when opponent is at the brink of their health bar, you can deal a finishing blow to perform that specific Brutality. Since a Brutality is supposed to be the finishing move, you can only perform it at the end of the match itself.

If you want to execute the default brutality, The Klassic, you’ll have to hold down the Down and Back Punch buttons, Y button on Xbox, or triangle on PlayStation, together for the final blow. This will transition into a scene where your character lunges an uppercut onto their opponent, finishing them for good. However, you also need to know how to unlock character specific Brutalities if you want to use the special ones.

How to Unlock Brutalities in MK1

Unfortunately, you don’t unlock all the special Brutalities at the start of MK1. Each character is stuck with the default Uppercut Brutality, which really doesn’t offer much in terms of action. That’s why it’s important to know how to unlock these special effects.

You need to level up your character to unlock their specific Brutality. Each character unlocks up to two Brutalities before reaching level five, and they all have their own progress bars. Of course, that also means that you’d need to play each character in Ranked, Invasion, or Towers to gain XP for their individual progress bar.  If you want to unlock all the Brutalities, you’ll have to put in a lot more hours into the game. Otherwise, you can stick with the default Brutality, which is The Klassic

To look at how to do brutalities in Mortal Kombat 1 for other characters, you can just go into the controls section and look at what combination you need to input for that specific Brutality. If you have it unlocked, you’ll be able to perform it as a finishing blow.
