During last month’s highly anticipated Nintendo Direct, we finally received new information about the upcoming Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 5 DLC, including new characters and tracks set to arrive in the game.
In the short clip that aired during the presentation, we got a look at the all-new bathroom-inspired Squeaky Clean Sprint track, which features a flowing bath, slippery soap, and other obstacles to overcome on your race against some familiar faces like Kamek and Wiggler. Long-time players will have all this and more to look forward to when the DLC launches, but when can we expect the new content to arrive?
Mario Kart 8 Wave 5 DLC Official Release Window
Nintendo has confirmed that the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 5 DLC will arrive this summer – so expect it to drop between July and September. The news came with the drop of the Nintendo Direct that aired in June after giving players a look at the new Squeaky Clean Sprint track as well as characters who will be returning to the franchise with the DLC. At the time of writing, we don’t yet have an exact release date to look forward to, but we can anticipate that Wave 5 will launch sometime between now and September.
You will be able to get the new DLC through the Nintendo eShop with the Booster Course Pass. Or, you could get the DLC for free by having a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Wave 5 tracks so far
The new DLC will feature several new courses for Mario Kart. Eight new tracks will be introduced to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the Wave 5 DLC, the vast majority of which have not yet been showcased.
Currently, we’ve just received a glimpse of the Squeaky Clean Sprint track featured in last month’s Nintendo Direct. In any case, the short clip of the sudsy bathroom-inspired course did set an exciting tone for each of the new tracks that have yet to be revealed, and franchise fans are now eager to see what the upcoming DLC has in store.
Mario Kart 8 Wave 5 new characters
Where characters are concerned, we know that there will be three new characters to choose from. We’ve listed them below for you.
- Petey Pirahna (Mario Kart: Double Dash)
- Wiggler (Mario Kart 7)
- Kamek (Mario Kart Tour)
Kamek, the infamous blue Magikoopa will be joining the roster. Next, returning to the franchise is Petey Piranha, the fan-favorite Piranha Plant. Finally, there’s Wiggler, the yellow caterpillar from Mario Kart 7.
