Pikmin 4 is finally making an appearance on the Nintendo Switch this July, and looks to be another great real-time strategy game featuring the plant creatures from Nintendo. While previous entries in the series have included multiplayer modes to play alongside with or against a friend, is Pikmin 4 multiplayer? This guide will help players answer the questions if the game contains multiplayer that supports up to two players and if the game includes cooperative multiplayer, competitive modes, or both.
Is Pikmin 4 a Two-Player Game?
The simple answer is yes, Pikmin 4 supports up to two players in one game. According to the Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch eShop store page, the game supports one to two players on a single system. It can also be played in TV mode, handheld mode, and tabletop mode.
That means the game will only support multiplayer played locally and does not support online multiplayer. The game will use Nintendo Switch Online if players are subscribed to the service, but will only support the Save Data Cloud feature.
That allows players to upload their game save file to the cloud to back it up, in case players lose the SD card with their game files stored on it or need to transfer their saves to a new Nintendo Switch system.
Is Pikmin 4 Co-Op?
While Pikmin 4 does support two-player multiplayer, it has not been revealed if the game supports co-op, competitive multiplayer, or both. Previous entries in the franchise have included both types of multiplayer. such as playing local co-op alongside a friend and head-to-head challenges.
Regardless of what multiplayer is included in Pikmin 4, it is still local multiplayer only. Playing the game in multiplayer will require having a friend or another person next to you playing on the same TV or Nintendo Switch system.
