The ping system has gotten a lot of attention and improvement in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2. Pings are ways players can indicate danger, loot, enemies, and plenty of other things without saying a word. It creates incredible team cohesion and ensures players always have eyes on the battlefield, even if distracted.
Here are all the different pings you can use in Call of Duty and how to tag enemies using them.
How To Ping Enemies in Modern Warfare 2 And Warzone 2
Whenever you see an enemy, it’s a good idea to also ping them so your teammates can jump in and stop them if they get the upper hand or try to escape. Doing this is easy:
- PlayStation: Hold Up on the D-Pad
- Xbox: Hold Up on the D-Pad
- PC: Hold the Alt key or middle mouse button (or whatever you set as a key bind)
Pick any option, and your enemy will be pinged with a red diamond over their head. The game handles pings depending on what you’ve pinged, so for the most part, it will handle whatever ping you are viewing. In this case, an enemy will appear in red on your HUD and that of your squadmates.
These controls can be rebound in the settings, so you can change them to what is most convenient for you.
The diamond will only remain with your enemy as long as they remain where they are. A ping will fade quickly if they fall or move away from the location or if you lose sight of them.

When facing an enemy who is quick to move away, we recommend pinging their location so that your teammates can surround them.
What Is a Ping in Warzone 2 & Modern Warfare 2?
With pinging, you can communicate with your team without using voice chat. In essence, it’s like sending a brief message to the rest of the group, giving them important information they may have missed. The main idea is to use it to coordinate a strategy or alert teammates to an enemy’s location.
What Do the Ping Symbols Mean in Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2?
If you hold down the ping button, a radial menu appears, and while they might seem unimportant, they are well worth learning. You can create incredible team cohesion without saying a single word, leading to faster responses and a better team. Learn these pings and use them effectively:
- Attack: The attack ping instructs your team to move in and kill a target. This is like saying, “everyone attack them!”
- Defend: Defense pings instruct your team to move to a particular location and prepare for an attack. This is like saying, “create a defensive position here.”
- Help: Use this ping if you need help. This is like saying, “I’m about to go down!”
- Loot: Loot pings alert your team to a location with valuables. This is like saying, “When it’s safe, go get that loot!”
- Ping: You can mark anything on the map, including drops, enemies, and more. This is like saying, “go get/kill that.”
- Quiet: Quiet pings instruct your team to remain silent and not make any noise. This is like saying, “hold your fire, we don’t want them to hear us.”
- Regroup: This ping alerts your team that it’s time to regroup and get close. This is like saying, “on me!”
- Watch: The Watch Ping will alert team members to a particular location. This is like saying, “keep your eyes over here.”
You should at least learn your attack and watch pings since they could save your life. For more instructions on Ping, Video Gamer has a great guide covering what the colors mean in pings.

How To Ping a Location in MW2 and Warzone 2
Sometimes you know an enemy is nearby or in a location, but you can’t see them. Instead of putting yourself out in the open to get a ping, you can ping the location of where they are so your team is aware. This kind of tag continues to get improvements, making it a better feature over time.
You can hold the ping button to ping a location and pick what you want your teammates to look for. To make them aware of an enemy, look at the location and press the ping button twice quickly. This will create a danger! tag, notifying all allies that there is trouble at the location you pinged.
There are many game modes you can use ping in. For example, using pings in Resurgence is a great way to notify your allies of nearby Fallen Soldier Dog Tags to restore their Honor.
