Big news is upon us. Arrowhead announced their biggest update since the official release of Helldivers 2. Titled Escalation of Freedom this expansion adds tons of new content to Helldivers 2, so keep reading to see what it is all about.
A Huge Update is Coming to Helldivers 2 – Escalation of Freedom
The developers have gathered feedback during the last few months and are now ready to release a plethora of new stuff to the game on August 6. Get ready for new missions, new enemy units (both bots and bugs), a whole new Difficulty Level, and more. Hopefully, this major update will bring the number of players back.
New Difficulty Level 10 – Super Helldive
Move over Helldive, Super Helldive is coming. The devs say that this difficulty level will be the most challenging experience for Helldivers, but it will also offer some valuable rewards (we expect an increase in Samples).
New Missions
A couple of new mission types have been announced, for different difficulty levels. Currently, there is no information on what those missions are, except for the Larva Retrieval Mission, where players have to babysit a Backpack containing a Terminid Larva. Sounds pretty cool!
Larger Outposts
In Escalation of Freedom, a new “size” of Bug Nests and Bot Bases will be added. These new complexes will be “heavily fortified, and require players to coordinate and strategize in order to take them out” and offer greater Super Sample rewards.
New Enemy Types
From the official announcement, we got glimpses of new enemies making their way to Helldivers 2, to bolster the Terminid and Automaton forces.
- Terminids
- The Impaler – “This big guy from the original Helldivers creates some new challenges. No longer can you run from the bugs when the Impaler is around–big, imposing, and destructive, it demands to be dealt with.”
- Spore Charger – ‘As if the regular old Charger wasn’t scary enough, the Spore Charger is shrouded in fog to obscure its location until it’s right up on you, Helldiver.”
- Terminid Alpha Commander – “A supercharged Brood Commander that’s bigger, meaner, and doesn’t hesitate to call in other bugs for backup.”
- Automatons
- Rocket Tank – we have no details on this one, but it is safe to assume that it will be a variation on the Automaton Tank, this time with a rocket launcher.
- Armored Strider – no details on this one either, but a new version of the Scout Strider is coming. This time it looks fully enclosed (so no sniping of the driver) with Laser guns and Rockets.
Of course, this is only a part of the new additions, as more enemies (especially Automatons) are on the way.
New Environmental Effects
Get ready for more spooky environments, with fog and trees that reduce visibility. The devs are finally adding a darker environment so all the flashlights we have on our weapons will finally be of use.
Other Minor Improvements
One of the new improvements deals with the grief-kicking of players. Now, kicked players will be spawned in a private session, with all the loot their previous team has collected ready to be picked up again.
Furthermore, more and more bug fixes and QoL updates are on the way.
All of this sounds exciting, so mark August 6 on your calendar, and get ready for some new and improved Helldiving.
