Linking your PS and Steam is becoming mandatory. Read on to learn how to link your Steam and PlayStation Network accounts for Helldivers 2.
Helldivers 2 is developed by Arrowhead Game Struids and published by Sony, available to play on PC via Steam and on PlayStation 5. Since the release of Helldivers 2, there was an option to link your Steam account to your PSN, for extra safety, but it was optional. But, on May 3, 2024, Sony announced that linking your accounts will be neccessary.
Sony’s team said: “Account linking plays a critical role in protecting our players and upholding the values of safety and security provided on PlayStation and PlayStation Studios games. This is our main way to protect players from griefing and abuse by enabling the banning of players that engage in that type of behavior.” So, let’s see how to link your PlayStation Network and Steam accounts, to keep your Helldivers 2 profile safe.
How to Link Steam and PlayStation Network Accounts for Helldivers 2
To link your accounts, you first have to create a PSN account, if you already do not have one. You can do so on PlayStation’s website. Note that if you do not find your own country when creating the account, they recommend that you choose the one closest to you.
As for linking, Arrowhead’s support team offered these instructions “If you are playing on PC and have not yet linked your Steam account to a PlayStation Network account, the game will prompt you to do so when you first launch it. The game will display a QR code and a link to a log-in page for Sony’s PlayStation Network.
If you already have a PSN account but are not currently logged into it on your PC, follow the provided link or use the QR code. Then, use your credentials to log in and link your accounts.“
After creating the PSN account, we saw no option to link it and Steam, so we expect that it will link automatically when the “grace period” ends and linking becomes mandatory.
When Does Linking Accounts Become Mandatory
The official date when you must have linked your accounts varies depending on whether you are a new player or you’re already playing for a while.
For new players, all those who start playing from May 6 onward will be required to link their Steam and PSN accounts.
For current players, they’ll start seeing the mandatory login from May 30 and they’ll be required to have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4th. There is no info on what happens if you haven’t linked your accounts after that.
