The latest patch for Helldivers 2 arrived on June 13, and it featured a lot of fixes and additions to the game. Many players returned to the game just to check out all the cool details. Due to the sheer size and all the overwhelming changes, it took the players several days to find the first flaw of this patch. You have probably experienced an increase in the patrol spawn rates over the last month or so. One of Helldivers 2 players’ biggest requests for this patch was to revert the patrol spawn rates to previous, lower ones. Reportedly, patrol spawning is now back to how it worked before the last patch (01.000.300) with some slight tweaks so that the levels are less empty.
Players Express Concerns Over High Patrol Spawn Rates
At first, the players noticed the number of smaller enemies increased. They assumed that meant the number of heavy enemies decreased. Now, some players are pointing out that almost nothing changed, except they had to fight even more enemies, with the increase in the number of smaller ones.
Rudonimus complained: “Was playing on 6 the other day and there were more enemies, including heavies, than the last time I played 9. Constant patrols coming in, and at least as many Bile Titans and Chargers as I’ve seen previously. It was fun and we made it through but whatever they’re trying to do with spawns and patrols is clearly not working. At least the newly upgraded weapons and stratagems help”.
Cato-the-Younger1 noted: “I usually play on 7 and am fairly comfortable there, but I played on 6 the other day with my friend, and it was the first time I had ever spawned in and saw three chargers, a bile titan, and 40 small bugs less than a minute in”. Another player, IsRude, offered an explanation. They said: “In my experience, 6 has always been worse than any higher difficulty”.
A Redditor, Pugdalf, testified: “I’ve been playing on 9 for the past couple of days and there’s been probably a little less Bile Titans than pre-patch, but the amount of every other enemy has like doubled at leash. Definitely more Chargers than before. At least the small enemies aren’t just Hunters, but increased evenly”.
Some Helldivers Reveal a Possible Reason Why the Patch Didn’t Help With Spawn Rates
While the players mostly complained and recalled their experiences, a couple of them actually offered possible explanations on why the spawn rates haven’t declined. Riker1701NCC explained: “I’m smelling something along the lines of heavy enemy spawn rates are a percentage of the total population. Since they also increased the amount of chaff the number of heavies stayed the same”.
Another player, Schpooon, added: “It probably also involves some sort of weighted dice roll in the background. That would account for why you can go a whole mission with maybe a couple of Bile Titans while other times they’re crawling out of every crack like classmates when you open a pack of gum”.
Of course, several players insisted that the changes were very noticeable and that the game was better with them. N-Haezer said: “Nope, they did a good job. The game feels way better now. Oh, and yeah, “adjusted spawns” doesn’t mean removed”.
We understand that at this point, it’s only a matter of taste. Some players prefer constantly fighting while others get overwhelmed. The latest patch brought so many great changes to Helldivers 2 but the lower patrol spawn rates weren’t one. At least not in the way the players wanted it to be. Thankfully, the developers are very dedicated and we are sure they’ll fix this issue in one of the next patches. Until then, try to endure, your fellow soldiers need your help with the latest Major Order.
